You will need to buy some gear change housings from a polo for the mk4 shifter to bolt into the stock position. You don't need to change the entire gearbox, just the shift tower as it will work in the vr6 02a gearbox. Much simpler! Just make sure the shift tower and cables are from a 5 speed 02j/m box. Again, look in my thread for housing part numbers! You can then have any mk4/tt platform shift mods you want, I think the tt short shift is only about 30 odd quid from the dealers! You can tell 02j from 02a by looking at the top of the change tower. 02a has a big plastic top, 02j doesn't and the reverse light switch is part of the tower itself and not the plastic top.

The mk4 brakes will transfer straight across. You will need to fit conversion hoses as the mk4 calipers have banjo connections and the standard vr6 brake lines aren't! If you are swapping over rear brake calipers as well, then you are best fitting get a full set of goodridge braided conversion hoses at a cost of approx £60. Ill find a link for you later or have a look in my thread, then I think it's on one of the early pages as to where I got mine from. Swapping the front discs to mk3 golf late gti or vr6 hoses will get rid of the need to run adapters for the calipers. The only time you need adapters for the front calipers are when you running 312mm front brakes as the discs required are of a different offset.

So, what are the good moon roofs then? Do you need a blind fitted as well or do you just get light (and summer heat) come through constantly?

Not all people are bulls hitters, some people are just plain clueless, ignorant, stupid or blind :-P

If it were possible, I'd have convex on both, but definitely on the drivers side. Driving modern cars makes you realise the weaknesses of Corrado mirrors.

V3 are closer to £1400 these days!

I do like the idea of being able to get a welder and teach myself. The only issue I have is funds at the moment with a potential house purchase later this year, so justifying a few hundred quid on welding equipment is difficult. Once the house has been bought, then that's a different matter :) Thanks for all of the input though, it's hugely appreciated and it does provide me with a little bed time reading, which i'm sure to enjoy! -
There are plenty of people who run G60's with more power than stock VR's so don't listen to what people say. Chip, Pulley, Exhaust and upgraded cooling should see you north of 200BHP. My mate has just over 200bhp from the smaller engined G40 so getting decent power from a G60 shouldn't be that hard a deal!

Ah I knew there was a point in doing good it!

I miss my grey vr6 :-( I almost bought this car just to have grey back in my life! Wife said no, now you own it!

The plug does stick forward at approx 8 o'clock position, it doesn't bother me too much but I know what you are saying. I think I paid less than £20 for my expansion bottle, I used to have a mk4 that would give me coolant level warning randomly and I bought this to fix that but it turns out it was a mk4 foible that when it was cold, you sometimes got coolant warnings on start up even though nothing was wrong! It stayed in the garage as a spare and found it's way onto my skip!
-
I only changed mine over as the stock one had tarnished over and I couldn't get it clean enough for my liking. I also randomly had a brand spanking new mk4 In the garage I just fitted instead. Yeah you also need to swap the plugs over. It looks nicer so I'm happy!

Mk4 isn't really a straight fit, you need to open up the screw holes to get them to fit.

It's definitely much easier and the dash is a lot simpler to remove than you would think! Good effort! -
Like the wheels tho!

No problems Gar, If it's under the armrest, it's probably got a lower ah rating and max cranking amps anyway due to its size. But being in the car, insulated from the life under the bonnet has helped keep it healthy for longer. If you have a trickle charger for when it's not being used, that will help but you obviously need to have the car close to a power source which isn't always possible :-(

That's a healthy Level of drain, I think mine is closer to 0.15 when I last checked. It's probably your battery wearing out. Most are only rated to 4 years or so although they can often go much longer (my wife's golf battery lasted over 7 years before it started to loose it's cranking ability) What amp hours is your battery rated to? I think mine is something like 80ah. That means is can put out 80 amps for 1 hour, 40 for 2 hours, 20 for 4 hours etc. 0.09 drawn should last nearly 900 hours which is nearly 40 days or 5 and a bit weeks. Your battery has probably passed it's best if it can't muster enough cranking power after a week.

Oh no, don't get me wrong in the slightest, I've owned a Peugeot 309, Citroën ZX, Nissan almera, BMW E30, VW Golf mk4, VW Corrado , VW Polo GTI, Porsche 964 911, Lotus Elise, VW Passat and now my second corrado. I know that there ARE much better cars out there and I wouldn't call myself a badge snob. I just don't like vectras. I know how good a car they can be, hence I said it's a bit of a Q car, but each to their own and all that!

Any suggestions on cheap migs then? I'm more than willing to give it a go, I tried to book myself into a local college evening good class to give myself a grounding as to what I was doing! I just don't have the equipment! Lucky for me that I kept both front halves of each exhaust as I had a feeling I may need them! Sick is the word! You should see the lacquer peel and dents on her! Nice thread, full of have a go spirit with a pleasing result! -
Nice car. Only problem being the badge! Bit of a Q car these days, apart from the spoiler that is!

Wiring on old cars is scary, sometimes it's better to just not look!
