Help me to decide...Alfa 156 / 166 or Golf 4Motion
Leonard replied to Andy665's topic in General Car Chat
No unfortunately she is getting on a little bit. So needs something higher with better visibility. She doesnt like driving my C, maybe a std ride height one would be ok though, you could see France on a good day then LOL Been trying to find a Polo 1.9GTtdi (like my sister has) but they are a bit more than she wants to spend on a runabout at the moment. -

WOW! A speedy mum with technical good taste - quite a rarity! 8) Oh yes it is in the blood, cars she has owned include a brand new Capri 3.0S with minilites in blood orange  , original mini cooper, TVR Chimaera, 944 S2 Cabriolet. Now she wants a nippy run around :salute: -

Have you considered just a 1.8T GTi? I have been looking recently for my mum and there are some really nice low mileage examples around for between 2.5 and 3.5k -
What camera does your bro use out of interest?

17 inch rims and lowering - will it mess up the handling?
Leonard replied to parmvr6's topic in Drivetrain
 Yeah the standard brakes are crap mate. Alarmingly, most people on here think they're fine! That must suggest most Corrado owners drive like Miss Daisy  If you're upgrading to 16s, it's a good time to slot on some proper brakes. 4 pots and meaty discs. It's the only way to get the damn things to stop quickly :D LOL cheek of it! If you have the money to upgrade then yes fair enough. Otherwise a hard compound pad such as EBC Red Stuff, Ferodo DS2500 running on std discs should see a big improvement. You can add braided hoses for a little more pedal feel. The above have got me around a few track days no probs anyway. Plus they are cheap to replace! Matt -
Its always good to check the smaller things first! :)

Defo sounds like front engine mounts. It is a reasonably expensive job to do with uprated Vibra Tech mounts. However it is worth doing. If it is the mounts you should probably be able to feel a shunt through the drivetrain/gearstick changing from 1st to 2nd Matt

LOL Yeah I just needed confirmation of my ineptitude! I did say what tyres I was using, Toyo Proxes 205/40. They are sporty little numbers with hard sidewalls....hence the tramlining  -
17 inch rims and lowering - will it mess up the handling?
Leonard replied to parmvr6's topic in Drivetrain
Well yes I did kind of figure that. Other than finding a 7J 17 inch wheel though how can you make it any better, I mean you have to drop two sidewall sizes? I thought it would affect ride comfort but I really didnt see it affecting the 'grip factor' so much. I cant really see it but would 215 section tyres have actually been better? -

What's the offset of your 17s and what brand & model of tyres mate? Should all be spot on. 17x7.5, ET33 New Toyo Proxes in a 205 section, they were within 5mm of being the same overall diameter as my 15 inch Speedlines. Plus hefting them they didnt feel al lot heavier either. -
Red stuff defo, not green..... Red stuff work really well with std discs and uprated brake lines IMO

17 inch rims and lowering - will it mess up the handling?
Leonard replied to parmvr6's topic in Drivetrain
I have ummed and indeed arrred about this for a long time! 7 years in fact :cough: So just fitted 17's with 205 section tyres last week. I dont really notice any loss in accelaration and the ride is not as bad as I feared either. In some ways on some surfaces it is actually better. Although my glove box keeps popping open so it must be a bit harsher LOL. One of the things I have noticed and I cant really work this one out is that I get a lot more tramlining/torque steer with the new wheels despite them wearing the same section rubber. I can only put this down to the extra rotating mass of the wheels and tyres and maybe also a lack of grip from the lower pro tyres????? If you like to drive your car hard I would say stick with the std wheels or get some 16's which are probably the optimum. Otherwise go for 17's as they are not quite as compromised as I thought they would be. Matt -
 Bet the dark grey ones would look top on your motor

Found some nice components Im thinking of buying but the mid is 8cm deep will I struggle to fit them into the door? Cheers Matt

I would love some for my winter wheels LOL

How about putting the new Golf Gti 2.0T in it?
-
M8 had a 16v was bloody quick around the twisties! High maintenance though..
-
Doesnt sound too bad, is that with a std engine as a base? If I did ever go for something like that (cant see myself tbh) I would probably only go 300bhp. Looking good anyway :)

can you not put one under the seat or someit :D Or do they need a lot of cooling?

Is there anywhere in the cabin for putting an Amp. Fancy one but not in the boot......
