My G60 - BBS RF/Carbon/Porsche/Smooth... Updated - 09/11/10
luke w replied to Adski's topic in Members Gallery
Love your Corrado mate 8) Just one little thing though, it looks like you're running no camber or very slightly postive camber on the front? Or is that just the photos making it look like that? -
I remember speaking to the bloke a few years ago at an RS Owners show (my old man had a 3 door cossie), came across as a really nice bloke, not like some people who do the whole concours thing.
-
That was me on my way home back to Cornwall  No need to apologise mate, always nice to get a thumbs up or wave :)

Yep agree with you entirely, they started the whole thing with Hot Rods straight after WW2 and some of the creations that have come out of America by individuals or small companies are mind blowing. Feel free to watch the video I posted on the previous page. Trust me, I was as sceptical as you before I watched the clip. I'm still cynical and suspect the M3 would paste the Mustang in other scenario's.. but the proof that it's as as good as the M3 on a track and in a sprint is right there. Yeah I did watch the video, and this is nothing against you, but to me, that doesn't prove anything. They never run the cars side by side, it's having to take their word for it, which I don't. I guarantee every over magazine or show around the world will come up with a different result, the BMW is faster. It may very well keep up in a straight line, that's not that difficult, but if both those cars were pushed to the limit around a track, the BMW would leave it for dead.

Don't get me wrong, if I lived over there I'd run an old barge as a daily, something from the 70s and Pro Street style, like this :D As for no car industry, that is sort of true in the sense that every mainstream British manufacturer is foreign owned. But there is a thriving motorsport industry, a majority of F1 cars are designed and built over here, as are Indy cars. Then there are the small independant engineering companies that design and build parts for major manufacturers, such as Ricardo Transmissions who designed and supplied the DSG gearbox for the Veyron. The Corvette and Viper used GRP composites, not carbon fibre.

I love old American Muscle cars. My old man has had a few back in the day, his best being a 66 Mustang Coupe, 302ci engine, 4 speed manual, 10" Mag slots on the rear, proper 80s style 8) Not a big fan of the newer stuff to be fair, and I always take Americans' reviews of their own stuff with a pinch of salt. EVO magazine did say that the 2011 Mustang is a big improvement on the old one, but faster, better handling, etc, than a new M3, don't believe a word of it.

I think being on 15s helps with it being so low, got a set of 17s to go on soon so that should help with ground clearance. Still want to keep it as low as possible though. Only done the outside so far, I wouldn't mine going back to the standard colour at some point (pearl grey) so haven't bothered with shut lines, etc. It's not that noticable really when you open the doors or bonnet.

My old man had a R32 GTR about 10 years ago, absolutely loved that car, by far the best thing he ever owned. Was only running 400bhp, but chassis wise it was unbelivable. It had race spec Tein coilovers, top mounts, etc, and was set up at the Tein factory by them. Never been in a car before or since that handle as well as that thing, even on the crappy country lanes down here in Cornwall. I'd love to own one myself one day, will definately be a R32, love the look of them, much more compact than the R33 and R34, cheaper as well. £10K - £12K will get a 500bhp+ one with all the bells and whistles.

Thanks mate :) There's plenty of speedbumps round my way, luckly most are those half ones so I can normally go in the middle of the road and get over with very little scrapping. Otherwise, take it at an angle slowly seems to work as well. I never actually meant for it to be that low, it used to be higher, but last MOT my brother raised it right up to get it on his ramps at his garage, and when he lowered it again he went a bit too low! But it still drives pretty well so I decided to keep it as it is for the moment. Painted it myself with rattle cans, not hard to do, just takes a bit of time to prep it all properly before hand. If you do decide to do yours and need any info/advice give me a shout and I'll see if I can help.

That's the point, sort of. They never made a saloon version of the E46 so that's what he set out to do, make a saloon version of the M3 as if BMW had done it themselves. Looks blooming lovely 8)

Looks sweet mate 8) I sprayed my Rado matt black a few months ago as the paint was shabby and had a bit of repair work that needed to be done, best thing I've done. Yours look a real nice finish. Are you going to do the wheels black or keeping them as they are?
-
Little update, purchased some new wheels :) They are Artec Edition L's, 2 piece split rims, 8x17, should look sweet on the car. They need refurbishing as the centres are crackle effect and the rims gloss. Not sure how I'm going to finish them yet, was thinking all matt black with polised bolts, but I do quite like the effect of gloss rims against the matt centres. I am planning on a couple of gloss black details around the car and under the bonnet so it could tie in quite well. I've also got hold of some red light tint so will be doing the rears all red, and plan to tint the headlamps soon as well. Still not sure about the fogs and indicators, might get some film to match the darkness of the headlamps when they are done, or go all out black, not sure yet. Also on the look out for a late badged grill and a new splitter. Also need to do a spot of tidying as someone's already caught the drivers side rear arch and bumper slightly, luckly I can spray it myself.
-
As the title says, will I be able to fit the later grill to my early (1990) Corrado? I've seen people mention whether or not the front panel and slam panel are early or late which has got me wondering whether that would mean the grills may not be able to be swapped over?
-
£350 is cheap, but then from the sounds of it they aren't even going to respray the whole panel they are repairing so I'd be a bit dubious as I'd imagine it would be quite hard to blend in with the original paint. Have you seen any examples of their work?

Just spent the best part of an hour looking through the thread, some truely awesome cars giving me some ideas on what to do on mine. This is my current favourite picture.

g60jaime's G60... recommissioning for the road

Looks very smart, love the seats. -
I might look into cutting down the front spoiler. Yeah it was painted with rattle cans, only on the drivers door can you faintly see it a bit stripy, but only when the sun catches it in a certain way. I've thought about doing the headlamps, I'm just worried it'll be a bit too much. I'd have to do the indicators to match as well.
-
Just googled the centre bore for a Toyota Celica and it says 54.1, so you'll need to check with the seller to see what the centre bore of the wheels are.
-
They are the right stud pattern and offset, you'll just need to check the centre bore. It needs to be 57.1. I know you can get these in VW 5 stud fitment so if the centre bore isn't correct I wouldn't try and make them fit, you should be able to find another set else where that will.
-
I had a quick look at this method and couldn't get my head around how to do it, it's probably as easy as you make it sound but it confused the hell out of me! I think I'm just going to drop the headlining a bit and do it like that.
-
It does scrape quite a bit, but the front spoiler was already mullered when I got it so I wasn't too bothered about it catching. The missus doesn't like it too much though, certainly causes a few heads to turn!
-
Finally got round to taking some decent pictures of the Corrado. I'm still really unsure what to do with all the small details the lights, grill and wheels. I'm thinking all red rears, late style grill with a black badge, smoked side repeaters and a nice set of 17" splits? And maybe a 50mm splitter? Or just keep it as it is?
-
It's a twin turbo model, had it about 9 years now. She's not afraid of driving properly, been in the car with her a few times getting the back end out.
-
Yeah, it was my mum's, then I bought it off her while the Corrado was off the road, then sold it back to her when the Corrado went back on the road. It's a very nice car, but I really missed the Corrado so was pretty glad when she offered to buy it back.
-
I currently have no door speakers and am pretty feed up of just having the dash speakers. What speakers have you lot got fitted in the front doors of your Corrados? I want them to fit in the original door pockets and ideally looking to spend as much under £50 as you can while still sounding okay.
