    Shuddering!

There may be an obvious answer to this question and i may look a bit silly but am curious none the less. Under hard braking the steering on my C begins to shudder, i know it could most likely be warped brake discs but new brake discs only went on the car march of this year. Could they have warped already or could there be another problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
  2. wow, seems like a good and informative debate has started from this thread. I think following on from everyones advice i think ill just set the coilovers individually and get it as close as i can. And measuring using the sill's certainly makes sense kevhaywire. That i didnt think of. Once i finally get the car fine tuned then off to get the wheels aligned me thinks! As far as i know i havn't messed with the camber angles :confused4: , just wound the coilovers down. Am thinkin because i had to raise the car 4 inches for the MOT and then wound them down again wheel alignment might be worth doing. I've already had to swap the front wheels for the back's as it looks like its now toeing out a bit, the insides of the front wheels have started to wear! :brickwall:
  3. Casual - Its sounding like it could quite possibly be something to do with the front discs as i think i can agree that the suspension shouldn't have too much to do with that kind of problem. And as far as i know the wings are the original ones as when i got the car it didnt noticebly sit funny on the coilovers. I had to raise them about 4 inches to MOT it 'cos they couldn't get it on the ramp :) . I then lowered it again after that. Unfortunately i don't have access to a dial guage, is there any othe way of checking this? critical_mass - Nah its a '91 g60, but am thinkin if i cant get my head around whats happenin then maybe it could be an idea to level the car by adjusting the coilovers separately like you had mentioned you did. Im worried that this could put premature wear on the tyres though, as whenever adjusting the coilovers throws the geometry out a bit so tracking is then an issue. could this be a problem or not or am i talkin rubbish :D
  4. That did cross my mind but have only had this car for about 4 months and the previous owner said he had replaced the front discs recently. Think i might try and fish out any proof of this in the history just to make sure. I did jump on the car on all four corners ( not literally :) ) as i heard that it does help settle the car, what did you mean by the wings slightly out? As far as i know the tyre pressure is good all round though i think ill check anyway. When i took measurements of the coilovers with the wheels off i measured them by measuring the amount of threads on each shock so that bits covered. They are all set the same. Thanks for posting mate, any othe suggestions???? :)
  5. Hi all, I spent about 3 hours yesterday trying to adjust the coilovers on my C to get it to sit level on all four corners but for some reason it is sitting at diagonals with drivers side front and passenger side rear pretty much the same and the passenger side front and drivers rear pretty much the same. Though not all the same! The car obviously sits flat on the ground i.e all wheels are on the ground :) In the process I had taken measurements on the coilovers so they are all set exactly the same, and when taking the car off the jack then taken measurements from the wheel rim to arch. The two front wheels are just over a centimetre out from each other, as are the rears, and i cannot work out why. I realise the car needs to 'settle' after adjustment but not sure where im goin wrong or whether this is normal. Lastly, on braking the steering shudders, though it stops when takin my foot off the brake, is this down to the seemingly uneven way the coilovers are set or is it a tracking issue? I thought i could be the tracking. I just wondering if anyone else has experienced this kind of thing and if anyone can give me some advice on the matter! Anyones help is much appreciated and thankyou for reading all of this! :D
  6. Hi all, Im looking for a good garage in the Swansea, or at least S.Wales area to possibly see to me '91 G60 as i don't to just take it anywhere. Preferably someone who can offer G-lader servicing aswell! Thanks.
  7. It is recommended that you do, though i havn't got round to it yet either. You can get some from G-werks i think. 'Bout 10 bucks.
  8. ha, I think your gut feelin sounds pretty good to me :) . It is a '91 g60 anyway but maybe i was misinformed by the previous owner and the bumper is in fact early like the rest of the car, not late. As long as the grill/mesh didn't change then i should be pretty safe in gettin a replacement that fits. Looks like we have managed to avoid too much confusion! Thanks guys.
  9. Ha, things could get confusing :) . My indicators sit recessed into the bumper which would be early but as Henny said if they can be changed then it could be either :confused4: Lookin likely it is an early if the swage line that shaung60 had mentioned is the one running above the number plate and indicators. Does anyone know whether the grill/mesh on the bumper changed with the facelift? 'cos thats the bit im most concerned with as i just want to source another one that im missing.
  10. Any help please anyone? what kind of pipe is best used and where could i get some from? sorry if these q's seem silly!
  11. Had a look at the bumper today, Do you mean the swage line that runs above the numberplate and indicators? If so, that line does turn up into the car just before the front wheel arch on either side so am guessing this is an early bumper then? And am i right in assuming that there was a plastic grill/mesh that lay in the hole underneath the numberplate? Thanks alot for any help guys. :)
  12. Thanks mate, Think if i find one for sale might be worth postin up a pic of my front bumper to check it is a late one as im not to sure! :confused4: Apologies for my ignorance ha. Was told it was when i bought the car anyways, just not too up the subtle (or drastic!) variations on the bumpers.
  13. Thanks for posting, Will have to keep an eye out for one 2nd hand methinks then. Were there many variations to the Rado's front bumpers throughout the years? Just tryin to work out what i need to be looking for. And dont suppose that anyone has one going do they? :)
  14. Hey all, When i got my '91 g60 i was told that a late bumper had been fitted to the car. If thats the case i'm pretty sure its missing the grill/mesh that lies underneath the indicators/numberplate as theres a gaping hole there. I was just wondering whether this bit comes up for sale often and how much they might go for? Will try and post up a pic if it helps. Thanks alot peeps. :)
  15. Sorry guys, but was also wondering whether anyone can stick a photo of their engine bay just so i can see how you've angled the pipe etc etc. Hope this aint too cheeky! :) Thanks.
  16. Think thats what ill do then :) , any ideas as to where i could get a suitable pipe to run the filter to the bottom of the engine bay? And i'm assuming something like a small pipercross or similar breather filter will do the trick?
  17. Sounds like a good plan, was hoping i could just a filter but didnt think about running it to the bottom of the engine bay. Good idea :) .
  18. Hey all, As many people have done before me, the boost return has been deleted from my '91 g60. Hada look on matey-matey.com and it suggested using an oil catch tank and breather filter attached to the head outlet to stop it spewing oil vapour in the engine bay. I was curious, do both have to be fitted or can i just use a breather filter? Have seen photos of g60 engine bays with just this filter. Any help is much appreciated :) . Thanks guys.
  19. My girlfriends dad is a mechanic and auto electrician so had him look at it lastnight. Seems like the cars got a mind of its own because after cutting the wire to try and isolate the short, testing currents etc, replacing the fuse again, and soldering the wire back up it's seemed to right itself in the fact the central locking is working again (????!!). When I pulled up the carpet to get to the wires it was pretty wet, so been trying to dry that out and check and replace the grommets at the back of the engine bay as the previous owner had removed one to fit audio cable from the battery. Not sure whether the short was due to water, the fact i repaired the door handle recently or any number of things really! Also, the spoiler has started to work automatically again! very confusing, but for some reason everything's working. Not totally confidence inspiring, as i still dont know what shorted it in the first place, just have to hope its alright now. Fingers crossed! will no doubt be asking more questions should anything go wrong again :) thanks guys.
  20. well, not as simple as i'd hoped. It seems to be a short somewhere along the wire for the central locking. As I've got the windows working again. I'd recently used one of dave16v's door handle repair kits for the passenger side. Is it possible a wire could've been agitated or moved to touch a part of the car to short out the centrel locking? found the fuse above the relays which had blown, replaced it and the replacement fuse blew straight away, possibly leading to a problem somewhere along that wire for the central locking. Aaah the saga continues..... :( any suggestions?
  21. From memory, there were two more separate relay boxes above the two rows of relay boxes but couldn't see any separate fuses and think the configuration of the relays is slightly different to your attached pic. Will have another look at the fuse box tomorow i think just to make sure. Will be chuffed if it is that, easy fix. Hopefully the next time i post will be to say thanks for the help and apologies for being a numpty! :)
  22. Did have a look above the relays but couldn't see any other fuses. Could it still be a fuse causing the problem? i'd kick myself if it was something as simple as that. Looking at the fuse box, all i can see above the relays is a couple more small relay boxes but no more fuses ( or maybe im not looking hard enough). Are there separate fuses for the windows and central locking? it seems odd that both have stopped working. Will try and search for some more info on the forum aswell anyways. Thanks for posting, if theres anything else anyone thinks i might have missed, please let me know! Am new to corrado electrics, this being the first problem ive had so far, touch wood!
  23. Hey there fellow corrado peeps, Have run into a bit of a problem and am hoping someone can shed some light on the situation before I lose the will to live! :help: Went to wind the windows up today after driving and neither of them worked. Then realised that the central locking had stopped working aswell. Stopped the car and had a look at all the fuses and all seemed fine, then took the door card off and tested the wires to the window switches for an electrical current. There was a current which led me to think it could be a problem with the central locking as im pretty sure the electric windows are connected somehow to the central locking. Had also realised that inner door pin for the passenger door would not go up or down either. I have now run out of ideas :confused4: and need the help of onyone out there that may have an idea of whats gone wrong! is there a separate control box of some sort for the central locking other than the fuse box? Or does anyone know of where to get a wiring diagram to point out where everything goes! Am not too up on car electrics so any help would be much appreciated. Its a problem i would hope to get fixed a.s.a.p as I cannot put the windows up! Thanks, Sam
  24. Detached the central locking cable and in the end the handle came free, with a bit of enthusiastic force :) . Luckily, i could get to the other side of the pivot pin and tap it out, 'cos it was refusing to be pulled out! quite fiddly indeed but now have a working door handle again. Thanks Dave! :notworthy:
  25. Hi Dave, finally got round to repairing the door handle but am already stumped as to how to get the handle off the car  I've taken the door card off but can't get my hand in through the inner door skin enough to work out how to detach the smaller side of the handle. The end closest to the door is detached by unscrewing that screw above the lock. Pleease can you advise on the easiest way to get the handle off before i go nuts! Thanks, Sam
