  1. I'm from Newcastle which is quite near Leek and used to take my Corrado to Andy Jackson (A@C) but found a new place to go nearby (Carl @ stokevwspares) who is very good with older VWs, especially vr6s. He's quite a bit cheaper than A@C too.
  2. Did an 8 min 50 sec in my supercharged Corrado a few years back.
  3. W H Jervis - heard quite a few bad things. I wouldn't go there personally but I guess it's too late now?
  4. £1400 sounds like a mad price to me! My mechanic (link in my sig) would charge around half that for the work.
  5. Hmmmm.... So he's doing the chains for less £100 then, because Sachs Racing clutches are about £450 for a basic spec. So how can he make any profit doing heads for £200 and chains for £100? Labour is basically free. I'm calling BS on those prices, sorry. He actually charges £200-250 labour to do the chains and clutch. He gets his bits from Eurocarparts and uses the standard Sachs vr6 clutch so the cost is roughly £500 including parts. You can supply your own bits if you insist on genuine parts which increases the cost to about £750.
  6. Antera309, here's a pic of my maf on my old Corrado. I think the problem on a golf is lack of room to position it horizontally.
  7. I've got an alarm ecu and 2 fobs (same as in the pic) for the vag scorpion 5000. Would they be of any use to you?
  8. I'm quite glad you're not MY mechanic!![/quote:42f1a] Yeah, if you change the tensioners and guides but not the chains you'll find the timing won't be spot on and you will also risk them failing at a later date.
  9. My local vw specialist does the chains and clutch for about £500 including parts.
  10. I had one on my vr and it was excellent. Revved freely and definitely felt more responsive low down. Can't think of any cons except they are fairly expensive unless you buy from the US.
  11. I've got some vr6 calipers and carriers and braided hoses I'm selling on ebay at the moment: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=005 I'll sell them without the disks.
  12. I'm sure I've done well over 400 on a tank before cruising at about 70-80 mph.
  13. what ecu have you got? is it the one ending in AG?
  14. Ok. If you can't get one today I can send mine next day delivery for tommorow if that helps (sent you a pm)
  15. I've got a nearly new lambda probe (done under 500 miles) if you need one.
  16. You need some new washers for the senders to get a good seal. I found the best method of getting at the oil filter housing from above is removing the grill and drivers side headlamp then you can get your arm in quite easily.
  17. herisites yeah, mine is here: http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=42822
  18. http://www.exchangeandmart.co.uk http://www.edition38.com http://www.performancevwmag.com http://www.vr6oc.com or you could just buy mine :)
  19. Try and get it converted to cogged drive which will take a lot of pressure off the shaft.
  20. The pic looks like the exit of the foxhole which is a very fast part of the circuit. There are so many blind bends no wonder accidents like that happen!
  21. Don't you just need proof that the alarm/immobiliser works? (a VSIB Certificate) I've got the same alarm and that's all my insurance company asked for.
  22. Carl did my chains and clutch etc. and did a top quality job for a very reasonable price. He's a real VW (vr6 in particular) enthusiast and top bloke. Highly recommended!
  23. If you want a quality job which doesn't cost a million pounds try Carl at stokevwspares. He charges about £500 for a chain and clutch job including parts and knows what he's doing.
  24. I've seen that. Sounds like a good deal as he will refund the money if the engine doesn't run but it would be a lot of work having to install and then remove it again.
