I think the zimmerman disks are overated. Mine faded and eventually warped (even with dot 5 fluid and braided hoses). OE disks are definitely better quality.

I can confirm that a supercharged corrado can outperform a 911 (996) in a straight line. I've tested my car against one, not from a standing start but both lined up in second gear. The C was clearly faster.

The belt is nothing to do with the chains as they are on opposite sides of the engine. The noise is from the left side of the engine (drivers side)?
-
Sounds like it could be worn bearings on tensioner pulley.
-
or possibly the lambda sensor
-
Vrs do tend to run a bit hotter than other cars so the hoses do get quite firm. If they are v. hard though you might have an airlock or possibly the headgasket is on its way out.
-
pinhole in the tank/filler pipe or leak from one of the fuel lines?
-
Use Polyurethane Wood Glue. Extremely strong and sets in 5 minutes.
-
possibly the coolant temp sensor
-
Yep, I thought I'd upgrade

The v1/v2 have larger impellers and make more boost with a larger pulley. You need a much smaller pulley on the v9 to make the same boost and the smaller you go the more likelyhood of belt slippage. I agree though, for our purposes the v9 is ok as were not going for mental power. The v1/2 just has more potential.

A downgrade in performance but quite an upgrade in fuel economy. To be fair these mrk 4s are quite a good drive and it's better equipped than my corrado was and has got air con which I'm grateful for at the moment. The ride quality is better than I'm used to as well so I can't complain too much.

I've just bought a Bora tdi and was just trying to compare figures. I've been getting 550 miles (motorway/city driving) on about 50 litres driving pretty sedately. The capacity is 55 litres and costs about £40 to fill. I don't think mine is pd and is a five speeder and it's not particularly quick but the economy is excellent.
-
Jim, what kind of economy do you get from your golf/how many miles on a tank?
-
The v1 sounds better too

Does the kit come with VF-Engs new idler pulley?
-
Yes thats the one I had (Scorpion). I bought a new case about a year ago from Scorpion in Manchester.
-
Mine had the VAG 5000 (Scorpion) Are you looking for a fob that works or just a replacement plastic outer casing?
-
A knackered maf could cause the lambda to read high (I had the same problem passing the mot when the lambda reading was over 3) I swapped mafs and the reading went back down to around 1.
-
I had the same system on my car (VW Scorpion 5000). Sometimes the fob used to lose the signal and wouldn't open the car/switch the alarm off so I was told to point the fob at the radiator and hold the button until the car opened. You might want to try this first as it may be a common problem with this alarm system.

Does anyone know if the 24v has the same aux belt tensioner as the 12v? Is the bolt pattern the same? If it is the 12v supercharger kits should bolt on without modification.
-
Do you mean a bag which fits over the air filter? If so I'm not, but I've got the plastic splash guard installed under the wing to protect the filter.
-
The charger has an intake pipe which goes (through the hole where the carbon canister is located) under the wing so the filter sits in cold air. Running an oil cooler is a good idea too. I found that the car actually runs at normal or slightly lower temps with the charger on so the s/c itself acts as an oil cooler.

Bare in mind you can buy 2nd hand kits for between £900 and £1800. Fitment is very straight forward. Performance wise, put it this way: I lined up against my mate in his 996 Carrera (300 bhp) both cars in 2nd gear and my corrado just pulled away. Wasn't even close. The corrado is a fairly light car so with an s/c and 270 hp it will give you a power to weight of around 230 hp which is more than a BMW M3.

Eurotech and AMS were/are American companies making s/c kits using the v1 and v2 before VF-Engineering or C2 got going. These kits are always coming up for sale on vwvortex.
