  1. Looks good Kev. My coolingmist kit has literally just arrived in the post! Keep us posted with the install.
  2. Won't you lose boost too, only running 6 psi with an intercooler?
  3. Think the vag clutch kit is about £120. An exchange flywheel from VW is about £70. A fidanza lightweight flywheel (6.5 lbs) is about £200.
  4. I've got a Peugeot 406 diesel 2.1 110 bhp. Its very roomy, got a big boot and the engine is nice a torquey (the 90 bhp model is a bit pathetic). They are cheap cars too and you could pick one up from around £1000. Really impressed with the Peugeot diesel engines compared with the tractor engines they put in the vw diesels.
  5. The information about servicing the supercharger (zr2) every 3k is incorrect. It is recommended that the engine oil should be changed every 3-5k miles and the supercharger oil should be checked and topped up every 15,000 kilometers (about 9500 miles).

I'm having mine done soon and have been quoted £200 labour.
  7. I'm after a Fidanza or any other quality make of lightweight flywheel for my vr6. Does anyone know a good supplier and best price? thanks chaps :)
  8. Useful to know there's a garage who know what they're talking about nearby (I live about 5 minutes from PSI)
  9. I think they do last a long time (up to 100,000 miles). As the vortech uses engine oil, it gets changed everytime the car is serviced. I tend to change my oil about every 5,000 miles. The Z-eng charger had its own oil reservoir rather than using engine oil and should be topped up every 15,000 miles. The oil in the z-charger is fully synthetic and stays very clean so it isn't strictly neccessary to change it but it's probably worth changing once in a while. The charger has to be removed to change the oil although it could probably be extrcted with a syringe with the charger in situe.
  10. No, the first charger I had was a new Z-Eng zr2 from NS Racing, then I sold it and bought a second-hand vortech privately.
  11. I bought a charger off NS Racing a few years back. They seem ok to be honest and have a extensive knowledge and experience of supercharging the vr6. You shouldn't have any problems dealing with them.
  12. I've had 4 wheel alignment done recently (with before and after figures) and it feels spot on on the road so I doubt its that. Maybe the heavier wheels and brakes have made a difference and the front tyre pressures were 32 psi which may be a bit low. Worth changing the gearbox oil for MT 90?
  13. The dyno results - first time on the rollers with the vortech using the z-engineering mapped chip. Happy with the power/torque (a bit less than I had with the Z-charger - 274hp/240lbft) but I had staggering transmission losses something I can't explain. Did you have high transmission losses? I had a loss of 40 hp before but this time it was 80! Feels ok powerwise on the road so I'm not sure why they were so high - any ideas?
  14. Is the obd1 hotfilm maf identical (same part number) to the obd2 maf? Yep, my crankcase gases are vented into the atmosphere (with a catchcan inbetween) but it still only lasts 18 months!
  15. I think the switch to an obd1 hotfilm maf is well worth it if it can be done as they are cheaper (charged vrs do seem to have an appetite for mafs), less sensitive to turbulence and can be easily fitted into an oversize housing.
  16. Something has to be done with the wiring though as the hotfilm maf uses fewer wires and has a different connector.
  17. I've got a Luk clutch from GSF and it handles the power ok but it's really juddery. I think some Sachs clutches too had similar problems. I'd definitely go for a genuine VW item.
  18. Just like to say thanks to Fairzy, Dinkus and Daves16v for supplying bits for my 312mm brake conversion. Cheers guys :)
  19. Early 996s cost about £26k s/h but the 993s seem to hold there value even better.
  20. I still think this is the way forward when using the OE management.....a 4" MAF housing. Or a MAP sensor, but I couldn't one of those to work on the OE ECU :(

  22. vr6to182cup - What mods gave you 240 bhp?
  23. I ran a ZR2 for about 25k miles with no problems apart from having to replace the drive belt. I think the service inetrval is about 15k and the charger has to be removed. If your looking at a second-hand unit watch out for worn toothed pullies and oil leaks. Spare parts are available from: http://www.carpi.ch
  24. Thank Riley, I'll test for current. Any other suggestions welcome :)
  25. Yes or buy yourself a lead and download the software off the rosstech website.
