  1. Problem sorted by Colbornes in Guildford... (incidentally all the guys I spoke to seemed to love Corrado's!)... It feed cold air from where the G60 intercooler would be to 'jacket' over the exhaust downpipe to provide cooling... apparantly this is no in the UK spec but used for models that were sold to countries with hotter climates... So i can basically take it right off I want to in the UK without any problem
  2. Does anyone have a picture of an installed VR6 engine viewed from above? There is a pipe/duct that comes from the exhaust manifold/downpipe and leads to the front corner of the car (nearside on mine but its a LHD).. It is very visible if you look down on the engine from above. The pipe/duct itself is starting to look a bit worn and I may need to replace it soon. Problem is I've no idea what the pipe if for it is for ( I have heard it may be an exhaust feed for the heating, or an exhaust gas recirculation pipe...but in honesty I do not know.. particularly since there is no hayes/workshop manual for the corrado)... so do not know what part I would be asking for to obtain a replacement. Also I am not 100% mine is VW part.. so I would like to know what it should look like.. Does anyone know what this pipe is called, and what it should look like fitted properly? Pictures would be really appreciated (if if its just a link to someones sig with a VR6 pic in it. Thanks,
  3. Matt, try admiral for insurance... I was able to find quotes as low as £660 fully comp for a LHD VR6 with 4 years NCD, clean licence, 27 years of age.... hefty excess though! I think where you live/leave the car is a big factor on these... it can attract unwanted attention..
  4. My GTi does the same when the exhaust is about to go..... sounds fantastic as I come off the accelerator as it coughs and pops... but in truth I know the exhaust is about to go.. Where is the sound coming from... is out the back of the exhaust, or somewhere else? if somewhere else it may be the exhaust leaking..
  5. What is it then? the lines look to rounded to be a corrado, so unless you've lifted the body panels from something else....
  6. Yeah ok, maybe a jetta.... infact... looking at the back more carefully its nothing like a Leon.. it eat my words completely
  7. Nothing to read mate... but the picture looks like a Leon with different front grill/bonnet-VW mk3/mk4
  8. Thanks... I expect a recon is around 1/2 that?... ...my 8v mk2 gti recon was £925 +VAT from Ivor Searle...
  9. 3K, left hand drive though from a dealer who took in part exchange. Been in this country for about 4 years, imported from Germany before by its owner (who used to be in Germany). 92K miles on the clock (147K km) Service history goes back to when it was in Germany (including a few service receipts from then)...... Looks the dogs danglies, nice body work, sounds the dogs danglies, shifts like the dogs danglies, nothing bad coming out the exhaust, ........ but then again a new VR6 block won't be cheap. [EDIT: and I have already gone through the experience of reconning an engine in one car already!] However I managed to get the previous owners number, (the one who part exchanged it), phoned him up, started talking about servicing etc and he said that it won't go all the way between services without a top up.. and that he used to top it up when the light came... Everything about the car looks perfect... except I'm not 100% about how its been looked after.. Thoughts......?
  10. Yeah,... quite.... I was a bit shocked Not the basis for a loving relationship between man and machine really is it? So I guess you're voting for the 'walk away option'..
  11. I have been looking at VR6 for sale at a dealer, and have just found out from speaking to the previous owner that he topped the oil up 'when the light came on'...... The engine seems fairly sound other wise interms of feel of power, no blue smoke etc... ...but still worrying that it was owned by someone who didn't know how to/ or couldn't be bothered to use the dipstick... Should I walk away or may this still be ok.. Thanks, Al.
  12. Hiya everyone, welcome to my very first post.. I've been driving a Mk2 8v Gti for the past 3 years and have fancied a VR6 for.. well more than 3 years.. Anyone, came across one today.. checked the insurance and I can afford it... so going back tomorrow to check it properly.. My question is, what should I look for in terms of common problems... what problems should I walk away from, and what things are likely to need changing soon/reaching service interval.. for the record its 92K 1993 VR6 and imported from Germany, so has service history from when it was imported (around '99/'00) Your helps is appreciated, cheers all. PS: is there a general 'buyers guide' for the corrado VR6 anywhere online?
