Throttle switches can cause problems too. Listen for them clicking as you open and close the throttle from unser the bonnet. Gavin

Could be a failing fuel pump maybe but best to start with the cheap stuff. Listen for airleaks is maybe the best option. Does it start readily each time you try or does it run once, play up and then stay broken for a while?
-
monster airleak? Check all the induction pipes. I don't like WD sprayed everywhere. Clean it all off so the leads, cap etc are dry. Gavin

Who made the loom scoob? Gavin
-
I hope you took everything of value of it before it went, stereo, headlight loom etc Insurance is a right rip off as everyone knows. I hope Brentacre pull one out of the bag for you. Gavin
-
You have got a short somewhere then. The place I'd check is around and underneath the airbox. The hot air feed can wear through the loom and create shorts. It happened on my mk3. Gavin

I have always bought gear from GSF and never had any bother. TBH I haven't heard of any 16Valvers wearing out the tensioners to the point that they break. How long do you need it to last? I doubt it'll be on the road in 10 years time  Gavin

From GSF it probably is only 20. Gavin

That bulb you just changed, try changing it again or at least test it with the bulb removed. Gavin

Are you talking about the std ECU Mel? Have you some more info than you just provided? Cheers Gavin

Just getting the software isn't really the whole story. The amount of damage you could do whilst replicating the mistakes of those going before you would outweigh the benefits IMO. Do you think there is more power to be had from your current set up or are you unhappy with the way it runs? A rolling road print out along with a wideband plot would allow any of the SNS suppliers tailer you a chip. You may get some joy from Wayne of Chipwizards. I watched him write my chip and it wasn't all plain sailing I assure you. You really need acess to a rolling road for a quite a while, even if you are not starting from scratch. I would be as easy IMO to go with some form of stand alone ECU which you can get the software for. DTA Haltech etc. Gavin

Ive turned into a old fart since ive had the C ????

> Without sounding like your dad too much, do you consider that you have gained adequate road experience in a couple of years driving to stop you from getting into a situation you can't get out of?? I was driving the best part of 20000 miles a year at age 18 due being in the RAF. Even then I made, when looking back, schoolboy errors which were totally avoidable. Which cost me money but luckily only ever bent metal. Like GIXXER I have done my time on fast bikes and truely believe that riding a fast bike and staying alive, will make you a much better car driver. I used to call my GSXR 'the time machine', I used to get to places before I set off. Rather than seeing it as a failure, how about learning from your suspension. I got banned for a week for speeding in 1992. I can only blame myself for not seeing the copper in question soon enough. Was my observation good enough on that day, clearly not? Now I check every slip road and bush for the law. Drive safe. I can recommend doing some track time as therapy. > Gavin -
Might not look so bad in body colour. Gavin

The light comes on with the ign and stays on. The chances are you have knocked a wire off. Have a look on the filter mount or the side of the head. I can't remember which switch is which. One turns the light off once you get .3 of a BAR of pressure, the other puts the light if you don't have 1.8 BAR above 2000 revs. Gavin

The BTS won't stop it starting, it'll probably overfuel like mad without a temp reference. If it were to fail whilst running then the timing would become fixed and the motor would feel very flat. I would look at the fuelling, is the pump priming and then running during cranking. Fuel pump relays fail. ECU relay, is there a spark. Hall sender in the dissy, is there a spark and does the fuel pump run during cranking. Bad ign switch, another common failure. Gavin

it was a broken exhaust valve spring!! Get in! Nice one Paul. Tell us all. Gavin

Bonnet switches are favourite for alarm problems.

Does it have valves in the matrix pipes, take them out. Any car would normally boil over eventually with the cap off. Try filling the block through the top hose. Maybe pull the tstat or bottom hose on the housing to see if water flows out of there. Had they run it for ages with no water? Gavin

That's a bit harsh Steve. Poly bushes would be an improvement over worn out std ones. The passive steer aspect is a pretty personal thing too. I doubt most people would notice the difference. Gavin

Have you got some rings fitted in the wheels, to make them sit right on the hubs. I forget the diameter but it is important that the centre bore of the wheel is the right dimension. After that are they done up tight? Have they been balanced? Could be knackered wishbone bushes too. Usually the rear one. Gavin

Just the heatshield for the cat. Tin snips to cut the rest off. Remember not to park on any long grass in summer. Gavin

Does this section get bypassed straight to the intermediate silencers? It does. The 16V goes from the cast manifold and includes the first silencer of 3 or 4. There is not always one under the gearshift. Gavin
-
You can remove the charger brackets and just use the mk3 bolts I reckon. Gavin

The under bonnet parts aren't too much trouble. Getting the airbox in the car will be the sticking point. It uses lots of space. Gavin
