I am occasionally in Cardiff, but often only during the working day, happy to meet up and plug it in but you would need to be flexible on times because I will be constrained by meeting times etc. I will probably not be in Cardiff again until aftrer the bank holiday now and not sure yet how long I will be in town. If you get desperate let me know and I am sure we will be able to organise something - just don't rely on it happening soon and please do some research so that we know what you want to check in advance (I am a novice with it myself).

Mine was grubby as when I got the car, but it had to come out so that I could repair the sunroof. While out I cleaned it up using a small brush and Autoglym interior shampoo and it has come up looking pretty much good as new. So I would recommend giving it a go with a cleaner of some kind, unless the water has actually faded the liner? (Not sure I would want to do the job with the roof liner in situ though.)

Rather late reply, but thought I would revive this one because I have been trying something new (to me)... Malt vinegar - yes really! Over the last 24 hours I have been soaking an original suspension strut off a 1980 924 (so nearly 30 years of corrosion) in a couple of litres of cheapo malt vinegar and the majority of the rust has dissolved! Even though I knew the chemistry was sound I was not entirely convinced it would work as effectively as it has done. There are some bits that are more heavily pitted so I have left it in soaking for another 24 hours, but I have to say the results are quite amazing, very little effort and cheap (though not particularly quick and it makes the garage pong a little - some reason I have a craving for chips...). I will take some before and after pictures when I do the next strut. OK so malt vinegar is no good for panels, but I am guessing a sauce of some description with a similar acidic quality applied to a rusty panel and covered in cling film (to stop it drying out) could well work, I will try it out when I have finished the more immediate job of rebuilding the suspension on the 924.

Not getting rid of the 'rado... Well OK I have!
AlexDG replied to Alexander's topic in General Car Chat
For me it would be a 944 S2 if the boot wasn't so flippin shallow... Surprised no one has mentioned the Gen 7 Celica - the 190 bhp engine goes well (though it needs thrashing to get the best from it) and not too thirsty. Not really aware of what prices are doing these days but the face lift t-sport has a decent standard spec (leather, air con, 17's etc.). -

As mentioned already - all of them. I have just had the same job done on mine (93 VR6 on 106k miles), I stayed with standard shocks & springs and rubber bushes because it is an everyday car and I need practicality/comfort over looks. But the combination of new shocks, new bushes and new top mounts has transformed the handling* (not too surprisingly) and the car feels 'tight' again, well worth the expense for me. *The standard setup is in my opinion pretty impressive, from an aesthetic perspective the ride height is daft high, but the handling is excellent for an out of the box setup. In some scenarios, where budget is limited, I suspect more gains are to be had by refreshing the whole suspension system than only replacing springs and shocks with an 'uprated' aftermarket system...

I got myself a couple of sets of these for this sort of job, far less likely to mark adjacent surfaces than a screwdriver or metal rule: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAR-INTERIOR-DASH-DOOR-TRIM-PANEL-REMOVAL-PRY-TOOL-KIT_W0QQitemZ230340547999QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Hand_Tools_Equipment?hash=item35a15dd59f&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 Also good for 'exploratory' work as well because they normally bend before the panel snaps. I don't recall which seller on eBay I actually used.

Zak, I'd like a 3 relay loom please. I have ordered some connectors from ARZ, could you PM me your address so that I can send them on to you when they turn up? Thanks, Alex

Daves16V I'd like one of these (with drill and tap). Could you let me know how you would like payment? Thanks.

I had the exact same thing happen to me after I replaced the broken cable and worn guide plate on mine... After checking a few things it turned out to be down to the sunroof operating switch. I removed the switch from the overhead panel and then took it somewhere clean and well lit and carefully took the switch to bits (easier said than done cos you really need three hands to do this). Once apart I cleaned all the contacts up and then put it back together. I couldn't see anything obviously wrong when it was in bits so I wasn't too convinced that it would do much good but it has worked perfectly ever since! It might also be worthwhile checking that the motor is in the 'central' position, but I can't remember the exact prodcedure off the top of my head. I'm sure there must be something on the forum about how to do this so probably worth doing a search, if not post back here and I will see if I can dig something out for you (probably not before tomorrow evening now though).

This might be better...

What a conicidence I was just printing out the sunroof section of the factory manual! Front height 1mm below roof line Rear height 1mm above roof line

OK just to close the loop on this one... The rear knock sensor very definitely has a white plug, so through a process of elimination the front must be brown.

That was a helpful steer cos looking at that site I pulled up a Corrado specific page http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/shop_parts/knock_sensor/volkswagen/corrado.html which whilst it does not say which is front and back shows a couple of neat pictures of the ones that fit a 93 VR6. I now know what I am looking for in terms of the plug colours...and also lists the cables as different lengths so all I have to do now is find them on the car and hope that the correct ones are fitted!

All, VCDS output is saying: Fault Found: 00540 - Knock Sensor 2 (G66) 31-00 - Open or short to ground I can't see anything obviously wrong with the wiring so I think means that my front knock sensor is fubar (reset and error comes back straight away). I am happy to trust what VCDS is telling me and replace the knock sensor but the local VW parts department don't know which sensor is which on their parts system, the options I have are brown or white? I tried to see what colour the ones fitted are but I can't tell! Did a search but couldn't find the answer. Car is a 1993 VR6 (if that makes a difference). Or if someone knows the part number so much the better... Thanks in advance (had hoped to be here a little longer before needing help but hey ho!), Alex
