  1. Hmmmm interesting i see no mention of Cat C write off in his listing. If this is true then it :censored: 's me off when people dont mention it in ads. Like they hope you might not ask. Yes mr seller it is a big deal and yes it does make a difference to me so put it in your f :censored: ing ad :censored: . Sorry but i hate people who waste my time. the number of cars i have looked at over the years and they say yeah its all good, i get there and mention it looks like it has had a repspray and they say oh has it then when i investigate further they remember it having an accident and being repaired, oh and then they remember it was written off and they have a copy of the engineers report. Thanks i say i just spent 4 hours in the car to get here and when i asked on the phone if it was in an accident you said NO!! Its on the V5 now so make sure people check, and if you are selling a Categoried car PUT IT IN THE AD AND STOP WASTING PEOPLES TIME! :bad-words:
  2. Agree its a bit steep maybe. As the engine is poo but especially the Cat C write off. Cat d is not too bad (economic write off) but as far as i know Cat C is write off due to severe damage. I would check insurance if you are thinking about taking it on the road as i have tried to insure written off cars in the past and not only is it hard to find cover for a cat C but also i was told by an insurer if you ever had even a minor bump it would be written off straight away as it had already been categoried. Also they said if it was written off that the pay out for said car would be very much less than market value as in peanuts so bear that in mind as there are a lot of Vr's around for not much money that dont have history and do have engines for the sort of money you are talking if you look and wait. just my two pence worth :D
  3. I get quite a few comments, i guess you dont see many my way and they do look special when compared to the modern boring rubbish. The only thing that bugs me is people always think its a scirocco. Even the Plod who pulled me up at christmas said is that an old scirocco to which i correctly informed him " no its a Corrado actually". Apparantly i must have been speeding as my exhaust is loud :cuckoo:
  4. I think if you follow the two (push in) pipes they just go to the reservoir so are not under pressure anyway, I might be wrong though.
  5. Excellent info thanks. I have already bridged the plug connections yesterday. have power at all three speeds at the fan connector so have concluded its the fan thats buggered. Going to source a cheap electric fan from the scrappy until i can afford a godspeed alloy rad and twin fans! Thanks for all the help will try and get a plug from the dealers for when i swap the rads over. Cheers jez
  6. Found o/s rear sensor fubar so fingers crossed its that or i will be chucking my toys out of the pram. Beginning to lose heart after wheel bearings, track rods, thermostat, front abs sensor and now radiator leaking and cooling fans packed up, all in less than a month. I know it will be okay once she's good and running fine again but sometimes it just gets a bit much and i start coveting a nice newer reliable hatch but they are all so damn faceless and boring. Oh and they lose twice what i pay to keep the C on the road in depreciation a year. Just need to get on top of the servicing as i am sure my ole gal has been neglected badly despite all the shiny bits.
  7. Yep was going to vag com it after i check the rear sensors. Have replaced one front one having worked out it was shatfed. Problem is mine is intermitant and it seems to work perfectly occasionally and then play up. Was planning to whip i round for the mot when the dreaded light is not on. although failing that i think there might be a piece of wire finding itself from the abs light to the oil pressure sender switch
  8. Thanks, i bought a 2nd hand pump and ecu a while ago when i first had the problem but was kinda praying that it would just be a sensor. Doh. guess i will have to bite the bullet and swap the pump.
  9. oh dear not what i wanted to hear... wish you had said it was just a sender or a fuse much less expensive.
  10. I know this has been covered before and i have read a few threads and the sticky but cant find an answer. Basically my fans packed up on my VR the other day causing overheating in traffic. Fine i thought must be the rad sender. However some monkey has cut the plug off my wiring and fitted three spade connectors so it can be connected to the sender. I pulled these off and put a meter across and have two positves and an earth. All good i thinks defo the switch. So i test the fans. Bridging the wires i can only get one speed to work when the car was hot not sure if its speed 1 or 2. Now when the car is cold bridging the connections no fan works? Removing the black sender on the thermostat housing and bridging with a paperclip does not invoke the legendary 3rd speed and now i have pulled off the connectors to the rad switch i cant remember which way round the wires go. I think from memory theres a red a red/white and a red/black. Help Please  I Need to know if i can get a plug to reattach so its easy for me in future rather than having to jam three spade connectors in. cheers jez
  11. Hi there let me know if you get this sorted. mine has a similar problem in that the abs only works when car has been sitting in traffic for like over 30mins and is way hot i mean 100+ then it all works perfectly until it cools down and then the little red light peeks out and no abs. I am pretty sure this is not a sensor as why would the engine bay temps make a difference? I am thinking maybe the pump needs bleeding somehow and that the heat is expanding any air and either moving it or making enough pressure to make it okay?? just guessing. :) jez
  12. Thanks for all the help. have done a search and cant find much about this (heat issue) so please bear with me. I have noticed on two occasions when sat in traffic jams for about half hour the abs has worked, ie light gone off. both times the engine has got hot and fans kicked in on the vr so i assume plenty of heat soak under the bonnet also had the fans on hot blowing inside with windows open to try to get rid of a bit more heat from the engine so pretty darn toasty inside too. Just wondering why when its hot the light went off as this would indicate not a sensor to me?? Am going to test all sensors this weekend and then try to track down a member with vagcom nearby, just wondered if anyone has any ideas before that. Air in pump getting expanded by all the heat? cheers jez
  13. Just need to fine someone near me now then as my fault reader wont communicate with the abs ecu for some reason. Can you read abs ecu on obd1?
  14. Okay, ever since i bought my vr and reconnected the ABS Light its been on. (last owner was a lying :censored: ) The pedal will kick when starting and the light will flicker but stay on. Whilst working on the front suspension i ran a meter across the sensors at the wheel end and one front would not produce any resistance reading so replaced that but light is still on. However yesterday after sitting in freezing weather and traffic for an hour the ABS light went off. The joy was imense although short lived as the first time i braked the abs kicked in then it went off and the light was back. Stopped and restarted, light went off, braked Abs kicked in and light back on permenantly. Doh. Questions. I know my abs does not work when the light is on as found a snowy car park and tested. So can some one tell me: 1) if i run a continuity test down a sensor wire should it give a reading or not? 2) as the pedal kicks i assume the pump is okay? 3) can a simple multimeter resistance reading diagnose faulty sensor? 4) why would the light go off then first time brakes are applied kick in and then show light on? 5) would a loose rear brake backing plate affect the rear sensor or abs ring? 6) would air in the pump give these symptoms? Thanks for any help, or links to threads that might, i have done searches but cant find the specific info i need apart from people saying run vag com on it. The MOT is looming and i cant afford to be without wheels. cheers jez
  15. Ha ha yeah would be good to see some corrado faces in the better weather. Maybe we should organise a meet somewhere.
  16. Bloody hell a corrado less than a zillion miles away from me that makes a change :) Dont know whos it is though, the only one i know round kings lynn thats green is Renson, doubt its his though as he would use kings lynn vw i would guess.
  17. Probably wont do any damage, just top up with correct oil. The thinner oil can in high milage engines slip past pistons and valves and cause a bit to be burnt off but i cant see any harm from just a cup full. I rarely top my vr up with the same oil just what ever is to hand and never had a problem.
  18. garage have ordered one already as i need it sorted as its my daily and i am too busy at work at the mo to fix it up. The Bearing looks a bitch to drift in though. Probably get stung on the part but will get a spare for next time. :D
  19. Nice metallic green rado westbound on A14 at about 14.00hrs today nr corby. I was hurtling the other way in my mums old audi as the rado is off the road at the mo.
  20. I got a flo flex poly mount of ebay for a mk2. The fitting is the same it seems but i had to change the top mount bolt for a longer one as maybe theres more bracketry on top of a vr gearbox mount than a mk2 golf? Think it was a m10 bolt. Just looked at the wheel bearing again as kept coming loose. Seems the hub flange is fooked so another job for the weekend and yet more expense. :mad2: Am thinking it might be cheaper to just rebuild the front in one go rather than bits and pieces. I knew it was too good to last......

    O MY GOD

Hope you get sorted okay. Bloody C***s like that deserve a good kicking. They must be effing stupid to just drive up the road and park! Its dicks like that who make me want to meter out my own justice with an AK47. Hope they are insured as a pikey in a van hit my mates car and it was a right pain for him to get the insurance sorted. Good luck am feeling your rage :bad-words:
  22. Hope so the noise was driving me mad. Not sure if the poly gearbox mount will do the same shortly but am loving the racing car feel at the moment. Can always change back to a squashy one if i get soft in my old age.
  23. For months i have been tormented by noises from the front of my vr. Knocking through the steering when stationary and turning, creaking on bumps, cv joint bolts repeatedly coming undone and finally horrendous screeching noises that sounded like the bearings were self destructing. Many a scratched head and puzzled garage owner failed to pin point the problems as all bushes are new polys, no play in cv's or rod ends no real play in steering to speak of. I got some new vf engine mounts and a poly mk2 golf gearbox mount but had not fitted them. Then the front mount gave way and dented the bonnet which meant i replaced the front mount but still the annoying noises were there. Then today i finally got round to replacing the gearbox mount. Wow what a difference! Gone are the clunking steering, no more suspension noise and even the terrible bearing noise has gone although the wheel bearing is now shot. I was wondering that as the gearbox mount was shot could it have been the cause of the wheel bearing noise and cv joint problems. All seems confined to the passenger side for some reason? Awesome noise now though with the poly mount, bit of vibration but such a nice gearchange and feel its well worth it. I am happy again and all is well with my Rado relationship. It was getting a bit rocky as having so many problems and not being able to sort them gets you down after a while. Still got the thermostat housing and radiator to sort yet but things are finally looking up.
  24. Cant really see why you need to upgrade the rear brakes apart from maybe the mk4 conversion. I have 4 pots on the front and standard on the back with bias valve adjusted and its far to easy to lock up rear wheels. Just not needed in my opinion. But 6 pots on the front now you're talking. Mmmmmm :luvlove:
  25. Excellent. Guess i better dust the plastic off for a hammering. Looks like theres gonna be a wanted thread asap. :D
