Cheers Scott, which garage? Coopers? Sorry, I meant my Corrado G60, the sig pic is my mk2 8v thats up for sale.
-
Cheers mate. yep I really need to test them properly to find out how good they are! Think I will change the brake fluid first, its probably not been done for a few years. cheers,
-
Oh right, I am surprised! which bit lights up? Just looks like black plastic with a printed green stripe the golf had a clear plastic strip. You found it impossibleto repair then? Did you get a new one for yours? cheers,
-
lol sorry, I really need to update my sig! It's an August '92 G60..... cheers pal
-
its still in the What Car? guide, but only lists 95 models I think.. says " Gearbox/clutch most likely need a rebuild " downsides - 'Suspension Firm'
-
Cheers, that would be brilliant if you don't mind? I'll check for the socket tomorrow, so it should be under the plate that holds the gear gaiter? I live in Stretford by the way, not far from you mate!
-
Thanks, I expected it to be a pump failure or something. Do speciaists have VAGCOM, or just the VAG dealers? Will check the breakers at the weekend...
-
Cheers Bruno, If the pads are glazed, what can be done? Would a good run with some heavy braking sort them out?? The brake feel is a bit vague, not as good as the mk2 on its little 239's. Not sure about the ABS light, I've only just discovered that I've got ABS! (see ABS thread) thanks,
-
Just been out to the car and removed the blanking plate, and guess what, there sits an ABS wiring plug  I don't know how I missed that one :x According to the book, it will act as a normal braking system, but should be taken to VAG imediately (well they would say that wouldn' they) Any one got as spare ABS lamp that I can have? Don't fancy paying VAG for a warning lamp thats gonna light up staight way  Will check the ABS fuses tomorrow...
-
Shit. The blanking plate from the hole next to the light switch is missing too, maybe that one was moved into the ABS position. Fuck fuck fuck oh dear    Maybe this explains the droning noise when heav braking in my other thread

My C doesn't have ABS/EDL, I thought - I noticed that there is a sqaure unit on the n/s of the engine bay, attached to the bulkhead, it has brake pipes going to it and a steel barrel shaped section on its side. What is this? It looks like ABS, but my car doesn't have the ABS light on the left side of the dash switches (it has the 'unleaded' blanking plate instead) Any idea's? Was EDL available without ABS? It has the usual brake fluid reservoir with vacuum servo. cheers for any help,
-
yeah, guess the drone could be vibation between the pad and disc, particularly because of the drilled holes. I'm going to take the 17's off and put a set of 15's on, somehow I have a feeling that they make the problem worse. I also noticed that they don't seem to locate on the hub boss(!) there is loads of clearance, so all the forces of the wheel are through the wheel bolts, not good! cheers
-
Sometimes when braking to a stop, there is a loud droning sound coming from one of the front wheels, which reduces as the speed does. It sounds alo like alot like a wheel bearing sound, but on previous cars i've only heard this noise when at travelling speed, not when braking. The bearings make no noise at all when driving at any speed. Does this sound like the wheelbearings, or could it be the brakes/driveshaft/cv/diff/gearbox??? btw, the brakes have drilled discs & pagid pads. Wheels are 17's. cheers,

Has the bulb gone on the heater control, or did C's never have illumination on this panel? It just looks like black plastic, even my mk2 polo had this!!! any tips on where to put in led's/bulbs to brighten this very dark dashboard? cheers,

When doing an oil change, I noticed that there was a slight oil leak from the bottom of the air pipe(charger to intercooler pipe) and the same also at the jont where this pipe enters the intercooler. Not sure how bad it leaks because I don't know when it was last cleaned, is this normal? Does oil in the charger/intercooler have a detrimental effect? charger was serviced by Jabba in 2000 (about 20k ago) cheers,

Had a chat with my VAG service dept, they told me my car was originally filled with the Quantum Fully synthetic Oil, so I said ta very much and went down to GSF to buy some :D It didn't seem overly thin, so I'll just have to see how it goes, if it uses too much I'll return to the Quantum Semi-synthetic or GTX semi.... ? Supercharged - I wasn't able to get hold of that VAG G60 filter you mentioned on saturday, so I got the equivalent MANN filter from GSF, which they assured me was definately the right one/equivalent to VAG. I noticed the filter body had a hexagon boss on the end for easy removal. The VAG filter that I took off didn't(i.e mk2 golf type) nd was a pain to get off! Does it sound like the correct filter ? thanks,

Cheers, exactly what I wanted to know. I will have a proper look under the car to see what i've got, cos i'm sure I could still see the CAT (or it least its sheilding) So really I should aim for a reduction in noise but without any decrease in flow? Is it possible to havea quiet exhaust that is almost free flowing? cheers,
-
My G60 has a cat removed full scorpion system, but with a powrflow back box. Its very loud, so I want to get it altered. I've spoke to my local powerflex agent, they say they can either fit an additional silencer, or change the rear box but keep the tailpipe(I really like the tailpipe) In terms of backpressure, what is good for a G60(with stage 4, chip &pulley) Is a free flowing system best suited, or do you lose a load of bottom end torque? Would a standard VW system be too restrictive considering the mods? I just wondered whether exhaust manufacturers take these things into account, especially powerflow, as their systems are custom built. cheers,

Cheer guys, I couldn't of asked for more! Synta siliver it is then, I used that in my mk2, it's good stuff.
-
Its done 83k miles and has stage 4 charger - I'm thinking either VAG full synthetic, Castrol Magnatec full synthetic, or semi-synthetic? Whats the grade require/recommended for this engine, i.e 10/40w? cheers for any help,
-
Gutted.... my new G60 seems to have a little gearchane problem! It was fine on the two testdrives I had of the car, and only showed up afer a few days of driving. I had been driving for about 10 mins, when I changed into 3rd from 4th, but it wouldnt go in gear(could feel synchro grate thru gear lever) or second either until I double clutched. It only happens now and again, seems to be more on the leisurely changes, If I change quickly it seems to be ok. changin up through the gears it perfect, its just when changing down :( Any idea's, can this be a common fault? I thought these gearboxes were supposed to be really tough! Could it be the shift mechanism, or low oil level causing this? Tomorrow I think I will check the oil, would it be worth trying Fully synthetic 'box oil to see if that improves things? cheers for any help,
-
Cheers Fella's, quite a few of you upgraded rom the mk2 then! When looking through the receipts I discovered that its had a full Scorpion system, but then at some point the back box has been changed for a powerflow item, maybe this is why it's so loud! It did give me a headache at first but i'm starting to get used to the 'lambo' sound :D i'll probably go to powerflow to see what they can do, but I will check how many silencers it has first, cos i'd really like to keep the tailpipe(short fat round exit) I've not heard the boost sound yet because of the exhaust! definately feels quick tho, quicker than the mk2 i'll take some pics this weekend....

Hello all, After owning a mk2 GTI for nearly 4 years, last night I picked up my new dream car! Its a late 92K Red G60 with 83k on the clock and FSH. Its got black cloth interior with red Alcantara centres, and Corrado badging on the front seats. Is that a special edition interior or does it sound like a custom job? It has the Karmann badge on the centre console. Its in really mint condition with no signs of the paint fading, apparently its been garaged and never driven in the rain for the last 4 years! Modding wise its fairly standard, apart from kosei 17's, debadged grille/eyebrow, tinted rear clusters, and when I looked through the pile of receipts, I noticed it has a Jabbasport stage 4 charger, chip & 68mm pulley. Also has a very loud Scorpion exhaust system(no cat), I think that might be getting changed tho! The guy who last owned it didn't really have a clue about it, so It's nice to have it back in the hands of a proper VW enthusiast. Can't wait to service it and then start thinking about a few mods..... std suspension is sky high on 17's! cheers,
-
Cheers for the pic, they do look great in 17" form don't they!

I did this on my mk2, put the tweeter in an angled holder where the window winder would of been, sounds great. Experiment first though with blu tack 8)
