  1. Had the front suspension changed today and the tracking & camber set-up, all the steering problems have gone away! It feels solid with no play at any driving speed, and bumps in the road are no longer felt through the steering, the wheel doesnt flinch either. The tracking was way out on one wheel & the camber was all over the place on both, I'm guessing this prevented road shock from being absorbed through the suspension in the normal way. I'm well pleased its all sorted 8) cheers,
  2. I'm glad to say all these problems have gone after replacing the front suspension! I actually lowered it aswell and gained more ride quality! The tracking & camber was way out, which probably contributed to the harsness as the wheels would of been pulled all over the place by the bumps. The shocks were an odd pair & the top mounts were shagged. Springs were newish but I don't know what make.... The car now feels how it's supposed to be :)
  3. Picked the car up today with new front Boge springs, Bilstein Gas shocks, top mounts & bumpstops, the car is transformed!! Ride quality is very good, better than the stock front end (well it was 'unknown' std. springs, 1 boge shock & 1 cheap oil shock :? ) The handling is great, lovely turn in and very composed, absolutley perfect for my style of driving. Need to get the back end fitted now and see how that fares, but so far the Boge/Bilstein combo gets a big thumbs up! :D
  4. I've just had my shocks & front springs changed for 40mm springs Bilstein Gas shocks, and the ride quality is far better! Big thumbs up so far for ride & handling :) oddly, one shock was Boge gas (felt soft when compressed) and the other was some cheap and nasty no-name oil shock!
  5. !!! Front bump stops are definately required on all VW's, to protect the damper piston from bottoming out in the shock thereby ruining it, and also to absorb the shock from bottoming out that might otherwise damage the suspension after hitting a large pothole/bump. I think the rule is that the piston should not go in further than 25mm protruding? I was having the 40mm springs fitted today, so I decided to chop 20mm off them, seemed a fair compromise. The pleated dust sleeves actually attach to the bumpstops, so if you haven't got bumpstops surely they are just sat there loose?
  6. Do they need shortening for this drop? On the mk2 golf I was recommended to use 30mm shorter powerflex front stops, whats the crack with Corrado's? I have bought a new set of std. front bumpstops (they are the same part number as the mk2) I was thinking of cutting them down slightly ?? Will it be riding on the bumpstops if I don't ? Its hard to see how much suspension travel there is with the dust covers in place but I reckon with a std. 80mm bumpstop there is not alot of free travel at standard ride height! Cheers,
  7. The 'standard' shocks offered in GSF/Euro car parts are named 'Sachs/Boge' so it looks like they are now the same company!! I'm surprised ppl have found Boge to be too soft, they usually have a repuatation for being too hard!! If you purchase from the stealers they will probably just source them from GSF/ECP anyway!
  8. Thats cool, might save me from buying then cutting up and expensive backbox..... will give them a ring.... cheers

    heater matrix removal

I've done the job on the mk2 golf I'm pretty sure it will be similar on the Corrado. The whole airbox comes out as one piece so you shouldn't spill any coolant. Once the airbox is out, the matrix can be removed. Might be better to replace the matrix as they are less than £30 (for the mk2 anyway). You will struggle to clean it as hard deposits will of built up inside, mine still flowed water but did not transfer the heat into the car. Might be worth a try disconnecting the heater hoses while the matrix is still in the car, and running a hosepipe through the matrix, both ways to see if it will clear a blockage. You sure its not just the safety valves at fault?
  10. Called them this afternoon, got them to admit that they can't do a quiet system! It's all boomy impretza style silencers, bollocks to that. Said I might look for another backbox (miltek/supersprint ?) and get them to mod it to fit the custom system. So, recommendations for a stainless backbox for a G60, with a nice tone on acceleration, but not too loud? Cheers,
  11. Have a word with JP exhausts in Macclesfield... They did a full custom system for my G60 for about £350 all in... They do a lovely job, and give you a choice of loudness with it... I'm sure they'd do you a backbox for a reasonable amount... It'll also have a lifetime guarantee as long as you own the car... 8) Cheers for that, I think I've driven past that place. How quiet/loud is your system then? Miht give them a call. I called the place that did my custom front & middle box a couple of weeks ago.... Finally got them to admit that they can't give me a quiet-ish exhaust !! If I did take it back there it would be to have miltek/supersprint back box fitted! cheers
  12. The Matrix is a computer simualtion of the world 'that was before', and that every living human is ...........
  13. Who did your custom system mate? How loud/quiet is it? I've got an old custom system thats very loud, not sure whether to get a miltek/scorpion backbox and have it modded to fit, or or to have a 'custom' backbox (but i'm worried it will still be loud!) cheers
  14. In the past they woule replace the matrix under the recall if it leaked & only if there was evdience it was leaking. I heard that the recall is now closed but they maybe some dealers that will still do it.
  15. After a bit of research I couldn't find a difference between springs pre/post 1992, so I bought a set of the BOGE springs anyway. Not got them fitted yet but they are really stiff, hope the ride is ok when they go on! Fitting them with Bilstein GAS shocks early next week :)
  16. Yeah someone else has pointed out the same thing, it might not actually reduce the noise! Hmmm, don't know whether to have another chat with them then give it a go, or buy a miltek back box(or similar) and have it modded to fit the custom system.... All ££££'s which ever way I go!
  17. Wow, I would do it for you for £150! A Fiddly job thats usually best done yourself or with help from a friend, I know a few ppl who have ended up with damaged dashboard parts from a rushed job by VW or A.N.Other garage, be careful. Andy
  18. Might of been me, I did drive through chorlton on thur night, did you mean RED K plate? Mine has got 16" BBS tho, but it does have a very loud exhaust roar at the moment!
  19. Dark Blue Corrado(VR6?) at Oulton park on friday 12th Dec, anyone on here?
  20. My C came with an exhaust system that is really loud! Even pulling away slowly and going through the gears its sounds like you are on full throttle! I took it in to a powerflow exhaust centre who initially quoted by £70 to fit another large silencer to tone it down. When I eventually got around to booking it in, the company had moved away from powerflow, and was making their own systems & silencers from a higer grade of stainless steel, the only thing they now buy-in is the backboxes. When the car was up on the ramps, it appeared to have a combination of different exhausts welded up together! The front expansion pipe was std, middle box looked like scorpion, and the rear silencer a custom job! It was in quite poor condition corrosion wise. They suggested the only way to do the job properly was to replace the whole lot, cat back, for £300. This included various choices of back box. I didn't want to spend that much and I liked the back box it had (discreet short round tip on round box) so we compromised on replacing it from the cat back, with two silencers, up to the current rear box, although they couldn't guarantee it would be any quieter. They did a great job and it is a work of art, but it is still just as loud! Slightly more refined I think, although the neighbours say it sounds deeper! So the option I have is to now have the rear box replaced. They have a silencer which is similar to the current one, and it has a removable stainless tube insert which is supposed to reduce the noise by reducing the tailpipe diameter. Im guessing it reduces from about 4" to 2-2.5", its held in place with a small bolt so it can be removed/replaced to suit your mood. Has anyone got one of these adjustable back boxes? It looks well made, not at all max power-ish, but i'm wondering by how much it will reduce the noise. I guess if the diameter of the insert outlet is smaller than the system tubing (2.5"?) it's going to affect the performance? Cheers for any help, sorry about the essay!

    eibach springs!!!!!!

Oops I didn't see the posts on page 2, so my reply looks a little out of place! kevhaywire, I was looking at the rear anti-roll bar the other day, it does look exactly the same as the Mk2 GTI 8v roll bar!
  22. like dazzy vr6 says, i wouldn't bin them. Make sure they are definately the source of the problem, take them off the car and try and run a hose pipe through the hose with the metal valve. If they are goosed you will have to buy new or source some from a breakers.
  23. No problem mate. It would be nice if the kit manufacturers would state spring poundage & damping rates (compression & rebound, & rebound range for t/a's) on their kits. Ok, most of us wouldn't understand the values but we would have at least some figures to compare between the different kits, at present it's all guesswork and peoples varying opinions & experiences. Getting the right kit to suit your driving style can be an expensive gamble!

    eibach springs!!!!!!

They make a hell of a difference, try driving a mk4 polo (no roll bars front or rear) the body roll is awful, I felt sea-sick! The rear roll bar does make a fair bit of difference too, and needs be of a thickness/stiffness to counteract body roll to the same degree as the thicker roll bar employed at the heavier front end. Roll bars work by trying to keep both sides of the supsension at the same height by means of a link bar under torsional force, which hence reduces the tilting of the car to one side during cornering. I'd imagine the Corrado has quite a stiff roll bar setup as it corners very 'flat', but of course this is also due to the spring/damper setup. Anyone uprated the roll-bars on a Corrado?
