Lovely car there :)

I've had similar experience from those two in the past (quite a few years ago now). Citygate Chalfont were utterly dire but Audi Amersham seemed very attentive. I really don't rate VW dealers in most cases. A few are ok but most aren't and they seem reluctant to arrange a test drive :cuckoo:

Could the wire be related in some way to the CD autochanger he used to have?

Were you the guy who put a deposit down...? Nope not me. I saw it, said I wanted to think about it (I'd only just started looking) and then a week or so later agreed to come back and buy it. But my situation changed at work and I had to put it on hold. By the time my work situation was known, it had sold. Can't complain though :) But no, I hadn't put a deposit down. It's a lovely car. My only concern was the slightly higher mileage but it seems to have been very well maintained and the bodywork was fantastic. The leather was slightly tired but you've brought it back to life wonderfully. If my job situation occurred a week either side then I'd have had this car sitting on my drive by now. Or, even with the job situation, now I've had a chance to see a few more and realise how good that one was I'd have risked it and bought it. No firmly on the lookout for the right car again. But this one has made me fussy (probably a little too fussy!).

Damn that's nice. I almost bought this one and didn't because of other circumstances changing. But that's one very nice car.

Very, very nice indeed. The whole blackberry/cream/white just works so well.

Is that fully comp? Can you drop to TPF&T? Have you got quotes for other normal cars to see if you're paying way over the odds for a Corrado compared to a cheap Ford for example. Have you tried the specialists on this forum (they probably won't be open until Tues now). Also try Adrian Flux. Good luck but in my opinion £3k on a 15 year old car is nuts, however much you like the Corrado. Could you not get another valver until you build up a few years NCB again? This brings it home to me just how important it is to protect my license. Good luck with the quotes.

Ouch that's going to be expensive trying to get insurance on a group 18 performance car after losing your license and I assume now having zero no claims? Easily 2k I reckon, depending on age. The only saving grace is that Corrado's don't have a huge value nowadays so it might be worth going TPF&T? I'd suggest the specialist insurers who advertise on this forum.

Did you pluck the bird?

I've been looking for a VR6 recently and took a look at a couple of Storms. I'd have bought one of them if my circumstances hadn't changed slightly at the time. But now I'm really not bothered about it being a Storm. Admittedly it would be the icing on the cake and if there are two fantastic cars then I;d take the Storm. But, but as said above, I'd take a good quality car over a poor quality Storm. I also think that any modifications to a Storm can devalue it (personal opinion). If I were to get a Storm then it would have to be as close to original as possible. And that includes the Solitudes.

I love this picture. It reminds me of the days when I'd be on call (in the early 90's before most mobile phones and VPN dial-in from home). I'd drive into work in London and park my Scirocco on one of the roads in Southwark nearby. It would often be midnight or 2am and most of the roads quite empty when I returned to my car and drove home. Part of the reason for me wanting a Corrado is because of the good times I had with my Scirocco. It's funny how little things like driving through London at night with the sunroof open and the heaters on can give you so much pleasure :)

Green VR6 (with black leather I think). L reg. Driving through Claygate in Surrey today at 4:15pm.

Typical Corrado. Spoiler doesn't go up and down.

But parts for a mk2 must also be obsolete by now? Although at least there is a bigger supply of mk2 used parts than with the Corrado. because the Corrado was always quite rare, the pool of cars to grab spares from is also small. There are two things that really make the Corrado special... the body and the interior. People convert them to newer engines and add more recent suspension parts and brake parts. So I still think the way to go is to gradually change over those parts. e.g. a 24v conversion (will the newer 2.0 turbo Golf R engines fit?). With more modern brakes, suspension and engine then the only thing to worry about is keeping the bodywork in good condition (the interior can always be retrimmed).
-
Sort of... couldn't you just go with a 1.8T conversion and completely update the suspension and brakes?

I had a chuftie today and I don't even own a Corrado yet. I was phoning Aviva for a quote (just to get driveaway insurance incase I bought a car I was test driving). The agent asked what the car was and when I told him I was greeted with a "ooh, nice car sir, I'd love to own one of those" :D :D I didn't buy the car :(
-
Any idea how long activation takes? I sent my cheque a week ago but my membership has not been activated yet. Not in a huge rush but just want to make sure some postie hasn't stolen the cheque :D

I love the wheels. I have a set on my mk4 4Mo and wondered how they would look on a Corrado. They suit it very well. Let's home the rattle isn't a sign that the chains need doing?

Lovely car. I saw this one too. Was about to buy it but my circumstances changed. It really is a good car.

I meant it's a bugger having a new car sitting in your drive/garage for a couple of months and not being able to drive it :) -
