Thanks. How recently was that? I’ve already had a screen fitted (badly) this year which was supplied by pilkington to Autoglass. It’s just this week that Autoglass say they can’t source another now (which may or may not be true).

Did you get any luck with availability? Autoglass have just told me they can’t source one.

Just an update on this. Dismantled the pump fully as shown in the photos. Bit of a mess! I’m actually pleased I didn’t fit a VDO pump last year as I expect the same would likely have happened to that. Have ordered a VDO unit this time though - should have arrived this week but it’s delayed so hopefully will arrive early next week. Tondef - interesting to hear that you had this problem when laid up, I normally would start the car every couple of months, but that just didn’t happen this year. I’ve been draining the fuel, not much left in there now and can see the bottom of the tank probably needs cleaning so I’ll tackle that before I fit the new pump. Still no sign of water in the fuel from the samples I’ve set aside, but I think I read that ethanol mixes with water? Will be going with Esso super unleaded as a precaution which is supposed to be ethanol free, as the car still won’t be getting used much for a while. Cleaned up the old sender and think that will be fine. Good shout on the fuel cap - the o ring is still there but might be worth replacing regardless as a precaution.

Thanks for the replies. yes, I can’t understand why the pump housing has rusted at the top as any water (if there is any) should be at the bottom of the tank. And it’s fair point about a cheap pump and the metal being of poor quality - but the sender arm is bad too and that was a brand new genuine VDO item. Looks like I’ll have to drain the tank fully to see if there is any sign of water in there, and fork out for a new pump. ☹️

It's been a while since I've posted anything on here - Corrado hasn't been on the road for a few years, but I'm finally trying to make some progress. As ever - the car is having none of it (it's a vr6). The fuel pump has packed up, which was rather unexpected being as it had a brand new one this time last year. Annoying as that is, what I'm really surprised at is that the metal on the pump housing and the sender arm are rusty. I don't understand why that would be. The pump has been fully submerged in petrol. The car hasn't moved or even been started in 10 months or more. If there was any water in the tank it should have been at the bottom? When I removed the pump yesterday I put the petrol from it in a jar to see if any water separated from the petrol but can't see any water at all. The pump I fitted last year was a brand new Johns pump (having read the help thread on vr pumps) - to replace the original Pierburg. Looking back at my photos of the old pump, I can see the housing didn't have any metal work on like the new pump, but I can also see that the sender arm wasn't rusty either. The VDO sender was brand new too. Could just about understand a cheaper pump rusting but not the sender arm as well. Has anybody else experienced this, or have any suggestions as to why the rust has occurred?

I'm having issues with this - keep getting logged out, not necessarily when moving page to page - but certainly when trying to view images. Same for me. Haven’t been able to access any threads via google, and it’s 50/50 for being able to access threads directly on here. Hope something is being done to fix this ASAP.

Without a 16v pipe (or at least the measurements) to compare with I’m not sure how different they are. However, I’ve now got the pipe off and it doesn’t look quite as bad as I’d feared so I’m hopefully I can clean it up (without it going into holes) and repaint it. Fingers crossed!

Hello and welcome. Good luck with your search. I went to a vr6 from a mk2 scirocco gt2, and much as I (usually) like my corrado, I regret having to sell my scirocco - it had far less issues than my corrado has had!

Nope! Though if it’s your only car then I can understand. I’ve had mine for 15 years now. But ive a had second car for a while.

Just heard back from classic parts - they’ve confirmed it is a different pipe for vr6, and it’s no longer available. Oh well. Guess I’ll have to see if it can be salvaged when I remove it. Hopefully it just looks a lot worse than it really is, otherwise I’ll have to improvise something.

Thanks Si. Maybe there’s negligible difference between them - it’s just a bit pricey if I order one and it doesn’t fit! I guess I’ll need them to confirm first one way or the other whether it should fit.

Hello. It’s been a while since I posted here, but I’ve finally started to resurrect my corrado. It’s a vr6 and I think I need to replace (amongst other things) the power steering cooling pipe that runs under the radiator. I can only seem to find replacements for 16v models, with part number 535 422 896A. Looking in the parts diagram though, it lists suffix B for the vr6. Does anybody know if the A part can be tweaked to fit a vr6, or where I can get hold of the correct part? I’ve tried a search on the forum, but couldn’t find an answer. Thank you.

indeed those were the good old days! Had a vic20 and an Amiga 500 with cbm colour monitor (with an Amstrad 464 in between). Traded the 500 in for a 500+ when they came out. Still got it sat on my desk but haven't started it in a few years now. Even bought the hard drive - 20mb for £350 :shock:. It was definitely an interesting time for home computing. Eventually caved in though and got full tower pc with a 486DX2-66, and its been downhill ever since.

I'd try to deal direct with the other guys insurance, do NOT go with your own insurance unless necessary. For a start, this should help keep their costs down so they're likely to be a bit more helpful with what you want. Also, as said earlier, don't let it be moved to storage somewhere as this will rack up storage costs. If the you don't seem to be getting anywhere dealing direct with the other insurers, then you're probably dealing with a muppet, so try to get to a manager - or even try to contact the company boss. Point out that you're trying to get a fair settlement (that you're entitled to), while keeping costs to a minimum. Depending upon the level of damage (it's hard to tell from the pictures - it might look worse than it is), the other option may be getting repair quotes using secondhand parts (if you're happy with that) but even that might not keep the cost down enough. You've said it's valued at £1500, but that might not be a hard limit when claiming from a 3rd party - you should be looking for the cost of repair or the cost of replacing it (regardless of what you valued it at) - in theory you're not supposed to end up out of pocket. Regarding policy cancellation, I don't think it should work like that - no, you can't claim money back because you've only had 2 months of cover, but if you get another car the policy should be transferable to the new one with a possible adjustment amount payable. Not 100% sure on this, but that's my understanding. Sorry to hear about this, but good luck getting it sorted.
