Cheers pal, i give the washers trick a go tonight.

Hi chaps, My steering wheel seems too loose. I'm not sure if it is a problem with the column adjuster in the car or something more serious. Is there anyway to check the steering wheel hight adjustment? Cheers Tom
-
Alright chaps, My passenger door isn't sat squarly ie. the front edge catches on the front wing when it shuts. How easy are they to adjust? Also, am i right in thinking that the rubber door protectors are just stuck on and can be removed easily? Cheers Tom

What circumstances would you need one then, i thought (obviously incorrectly) that a smaller pulley, red tops and a staged charger would warrant the use of one?

Ok, from memory he has had the coil pack, the cat, o2 sensor, plugs leads, numerous trips to VW to be given the all clear by the VAG com. Today the mechanic said that the number 4 cylinder was low on compression. It basically drives like it is running on 4 or 5 cylinders instead of 6.
-
Yeah, the cat has been replaced along with the sensor that sits in it Cheers...

Tafkadm, where abouts in Berks are you from? I'm from Reading, do you know of any good garages in berks that will be able to correctly diagnose the fault? Cheers Tom
-
Really? Thats not bad... Cheers for the help mate

Yeah, thats what i thought. Do you know what sort of money he would be looking at?

Hi chaps, i'm posting on behalf of my mate. His VR6 has been running very lumpy and powerless for a while now. He has taken it to numerous mechanics including VW, replaced pretty much every sensor and still has no idea what is wrong. The latest mechanic he took it to said that the head needs to come off to find the fault and that there is low compression on cylinder 4 (which would explain why is feels like its not running on all 6). The mechanic wants £1000 to sort out the head, where the problem is presumed to be. Am i right in thinking that there was a problem with the early VR6 valves (or did i dream this). Basically my pal wants to know what to do, should he pay the money? Should he just get a replacement engine? Or should he sell the car? Hopefully some of you mk3 owneres can shed some light on what to do Thanks Tom
-
No, its not lowered but the previous owner had put a set of 17's on with very low profile tyres which caused the car to clatter around.
-
OK, i have since been told that this may be a worn drive shaft / cv joint. Does anybody know what to look for ie. any excess movement etc? Cheers Tom
-
Cheers for the reply chaps, Graham, my car is going to my mechanics to get the engine mount replaced on tuesday next week. I'll let you know if this has solved the problem.
-
Hi chaps, I am getting a rubble / vibration coming from my engine when i pull away hard (it sounds almost like a grinding). I have got a feeling that my front engine mount has gone but would that cause this as well? Thanks in advance Tom

I also need a new slave cylinder, if this is faulty would this cause the juddering? -

Argh, my car judders when engaging the clutch, i really hope i don't need a new clutch too.....begining to think that i bought a shed!! -
Cheers chaps, i think i still have the trusty 17mm allen key somewhere. I'll check the circlip as well. Did you replace the slave cylinder yourself? Is there a reservoir to top up?
-
Hi chaps, been a while since i have been on this board but i bought a corrado G60 at the weekend and have a few problems... The gears are hard to select and have noticed oil coming from either the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder. Which one is which? The leak seems to be coming from a unit on the back of the gear box.... Is this a diy job or one best left to the pro's? Also, i want to change the gear box oil, is it the same as the golf where you have a plug on the side of the box and top it up until it pours out? Is there a drain plug? Cheers in advance Tom (great to be back in the saddle again!!)

Cheers chaps, I had a look at the car last night. I'm lost as to where the coil pack is. Is it the block that the dizzy cap is mounted on?? Also, before the car dies the engine starts hunting. A friend at work suggested incorrect air/fuel mixture. Does anybody know where this is adjusted and what to set it to? The car is really runing like sh#te, there is a huge power loss through the gears. cheers Tom

cheers chaps, Where abouts is the coil pack?

Alright chaps, My mates VR6 is playing up at the moment. It keeps spluttering and holds back when you put your foot down. He says he heard a bang from the engine bay yesterday when driving in the rain. Since then the car starts but only runs for about 30 secs then splutters until it dies. Has anybody got any ideas as to what could be causing this and what the bang could have been (maybe a fuse/relay in the engine bay??) Cheers in advance Tom :(

Isn't that driven by the belt though?? As i said before i haven't seen the engine but he seems certain that there are no pipes or belts visible driving the part which is making the noise is this correct??? Thanks again
-
Ok, i spoke to my mate last night and gave him the info you chaps told me. He now seems certain that the noise comes from a component that is not belt drive. I don't have a VR6 so can't help him but he says the noisy part is a sealed unit on the top left hand side of the cylinder head near the front with 2/3 bolts holding it in place. Does anybody know what this is??
