  1. andyg60-i think i will go with this alarm... i've heard nothing but good things about it and adding on later is what i'm looking for. i'm in the same boat as jim right now, just want to make sure i have a good quality alarm to deter them muppets. i'm going to be installing the alarm with the assitance (he'll do most of the work  ) of one of my knowledgable friends. i'll try to snap some pics in case someone else wants to tackle it themself.
  2. this is why i do everything myself. sorry about your luck mate :(
  3. is this the alarm to go with? i'm replacing the old clifford when i take the dash out and this is the one i'm going with... unless i find something better.
  4. i can find a 16v for $500.. and thats the most expensive bit.. unless i go for uber pistons! other than some custom brackets, intake elbow, fuel rail... all the bits you can find at the scrap yard easily...or buy on ebay, whatever, for cheap. i think its a lot easier/cheaper to find things like scirocco intake manifolds and mix and match coolant hoses than it is to source all the parts needed to install the (much more complicated) 20vt. not to mention that if you're not doing it yourself.. be ready to fork over another chunk of your wallet for labour to get the ECU and harnesses switched over. ..but maybe i'm wrong. never done it.. if costs were equal.. i'd go with the 20vt.. other than the lag its superior. i just don't see how a 16v conversion could cost half as much as a 20vt conversion. ...plus..i'd rather keep the original G-charger in the car. i agree with darren here.. corrados just aren't the same without it!! :D
  5. *cough* LAG *cough* heh heh  go 20vt if you can afford it!! ..the lag isn't *too* bad on those..the 225hp TT setup has BALLS. from what i've been reading... a 20vt conversion will be at least double the cost of what a 16vG60 conversion would be... even more if you're not doin it yourself. wiring/ECU means way more work. if you keep the G60 you keep your wiring and ECU..not to mention that with a 20vt you need the rad, axles, etc to do it right..$$$

    VR6...

i think its only one or two hundred pounds more.. but if you use rice-boy mentality... it looks a lot cooler so its much, much quicker!

i'm going to take out the indicators and keep the fogs.. but rewire them as indicators. if you take out the indicators, it frees up some more space for air, and i think it looks better with the indicators missing and the fogs still there. i can't tell if your car is a 16v or G60... if its a G60 you can use the right-side hole as cooling for the intercooler (cut away the wheel liner behind the IC as well).. or route it up into the engine bay and use the cold air for a second charger intake. keep us posted! :D

    heater core..

so (bump bump :D ).. apparently if you have A/C the 'through the glovebox' method won't work.. so out comes the dash. someone has to have replaced their heater core.. did you use a corrado spec unit or will one from a mk2 golf or jetta work? it all looks the same to me in pictures.. but i'm not ordering one until i know for sure!! thanks guys.
  10. just read.. "original Compressor, Condensor and Drier in the engine bay, but everything inside the car is completely replaced with the Passat stuff. This includes, the air intake, the fan, the heater matrix, the controls (digital panel) and all the wiring and sensors. This is a whole lot of effort to get to fit and wire in but well worth it. It requires new bracketry a whole lot of splicing into the loom and obviously the mounting of the control panel in the dash." i'm going to go get more coffee and forget i ever read any of this.. i already have to take the dash out to do the heater core... and i DO NOT need another feckin project right now!! curse you steve b, i know i'm gonna be watchin ebay for this shite now!! 8)
  11. is the dash-mounted climatronic all that is required for this? i asked about this when i worked at the stealer and i always got "its more trouble than its worth" or "its a sports car.. what do you need climatronic for...open the window!" ....but i still want to do it, i guess i'm a bit spoiled after driving those new audis around all day..
  12. why not put a 16v head on that 8v block? seems easier than a complete engine swap to me if you already have a G60 and want a 16v G60. i just put up a post about your car this morning jurgen, nice to see you've joined the forum. :)

    Modding suspension.

i have low springs on stock shocks and i'll say this.. replace your shocks. you'll bugger up your mounts and you'll get wheel hop through bumpy corners like a mofo. i'm gettin bilstiens with stiff valving or koni yellows v soon. if you have the cash right now, i'd buy one of those two right now to save pulling it all apart again a little while from now.

  17. is any mk2 core going to work? what else do i need, maybe hoses, gaskets, anything else? i read that you could get it out through the glove box iirc.. i thought there were instructions somewhere for this, but i can't seem to find them now that i need em.. :? thanks for any help
  18. i've read that its best to use a 2.0L 16v block and 1.8L 16v head. you want to go with a scirocco intake manifold, can't remember which one.. search for it if you're serious. you can stick a 1.8L 16v head on the G60 block if you're already rollin with a G60.. need to change to oversized pistons, strengthen the bolts and rods. need to reroute a bunch of boost tubes, etc. you need to deal with alternator mounting..delete AC and put it there or put it behind the engine. this is the easiest way (i think?) to do a 16vG60 conversion and keep digi1... which is what i personally want to use. have a look on bbm's site, they list some specific parts needed for the conversion. ..now click here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?& ... 94#4927694 ..i like my g-charger. the consensus is that reaching over 250bhp on the 8v is difficult.. although 300bhp can be seen with 50mm intakes and exhaust ports. if you want to gain 50% more combustion chamber area and really want to start flowin all that fuel and boost through there, 1.8L 16v head is the way to go.
  19. not in north america there isnt a 6-speed diesel! ..that'd be v nice. only ones are in the GLI jettas and the R32 when it gets here. thats too exclusive to find in the wreckers here just yet. i've been asking around about it though... i've been thinkin i'll do all the synchros, the bearings and the seals... but then i think, why not just the 2nd and 3rd synchros, put it back in the car and spend the extra cash on the charger? it comes down to.. what can i fix *right now* - the weather is startin to look okay around here and i can't let all my mates prance around in their jap-crap without a good thrashing! ! ! ! i'm very short on funds for this.. i'd rather not have to drop the box again in a year or two.. but i won't have the cash for a peloquin or quaife until then anyway.. :? :)
  20. satin silver you say?? :D i think i like your colour better! i'm going to respray it Audi's 'Raven Pearl Metallic' ..next winter. the colour is from Le Mans Series TTs, 800 made, 400 in that colour (with complete red leather interior).. or so i was told at the stealer raven pearl metallic is very similar to light grey metallic in tone.. a little different.
  21. oh thats right, forgot to say... gonna put in a VR clutch at the same time.. so i'm ready for the extra power. the clutch is old now anyway. when you say 'get the whole gearbox rebuilt'.. what do you mean? all the gears as well? bearings, springs, detent springs, the whole bit?? then we're talkin a load of cash (over a thousand) instead of a couple hundred bucks. i can get the second and third synchros for 1/2 of retail, and the guy will put em in and clean it up for $120... no big deal. budget.......... :?
  22. nope... i will next time the car is out. i know its quicker than 9 seconds to 60mph though!!
  23. i'm going to drop the tranny from my 1990 G60 to have the 2nd and 3rd gear synchros replaced. other than these two synchros... the tranny seems fine to me and also to the guy that will be rebuilding it.. we went for a drive to see if he noticed anything else. question is, while its off the car, are there any other wear parts that should be replaced as well? bearings? seals? he said that unless you notice something specific, that the 2nd and 3rd gear synchros are all that usually need replacing. i'm thinking about putting in the long 5th from the canadian VR tranny... i believe the ratio is .711 - anyone have any experience with this gear or know the part number? i notice the shifter linkage in my car isn't as smooth as i'd like.. should i consider getting a linkage from another car (1.8t, VR6?) or should i just lube up the current setup really well? i don't have too much cash to spend (since i'm also rebuilding/porting the charger), so i'd like to get this done right the first time.. any advice is very much appreciated guys.. never tackled tranny work before. thanks fellas!
