    g60 bore wear?

Plans are just to get it running again - the car has not run in over a year - took the sump off last night to find it full of gunk! it looks just like stale oil sludge with a silver/grey effect through it? never seen anything like this before and the crank has a slight rust to the end of it.

    g60 bore wear?

thanks for the reply guys I wish I had done a compression test prior to removal! the engine did not smell of oil once running but did stink of fuel and even on idle it consumed petrol at an alarming rate! but I this I believe was due to the faulty lambda wiring causing the engine to run rich (read about this on here before) the last engine I worked on was a mk2 16v golf which had covered almost 140k and the bores were completely smooth with no ridge at all? and as you are aware the 16v engine has to be worked hard to perform! just picked up your thread gti jamo - mine is also a red g60 and looking at your engine block the pistons are black just as mine is.

    g60 bore wear?

this may be a simple answer but iam new to the g60 engine I have removed the head from my g60 engine but now I have began to inspect the main block the car ran poorly due to a faulty lambda (broken wires) and there has been what I would call a small soot up of the piston tops and the top of the block and on the head the the valve ports. a quick rub with a scotch cloth quickly removes this but at the top of the block I can feel a small ridge with my finger on all four bores (about 10 - 15 mm down) but below this I can still see the honing marks? is this block on its way out and in need of a rebore? where is the best source of information for the g60 engine or is this forum the best source. many thanks

    g60 valve query

just an update on this - contacted the supplier it appears the new valves are triple angle seat?? ( if I am correct iam new to this ) and the head will have to have seats redone by a machine shop not to keen on this and have decided to order new genuine valves from classic parts. or can the existing valves be cleaned and reused?
  7. thanks for the reply looking at it again the sill curves back to this point and it was full of dust car has been in storage for the last year and once wet surely it would become a rot point
  8. Can anyone tell me if the rear of the sill where it meets the rear arch is a drainage point. done a bit of poking about today a found rust at this point and now I can fit my finger in once I removed the thick sealant and found a lot of dust behind it? does any one have any close pictures of how this should look once repaired? thanks
  9. I have stripped my g60 cylinder head and was going to replace valve stem oil seals. upon removing the head id remove the valves and found the inlets perfect but the exhaust valves badly burnt and clogged with ash (car has covered 108k) I decided the replace the exhaust valves and ordered replacements (german) and upon installing them the valve seats are much narrower about 1.5mm compared to about 3mm of the original and the valves sit completely flush with the cylinder head where as the existing valves including the inlet are slightly raised (piston side) has anyone came across this before and would it affect the performance / running of the car? thanks

  15. Has any one any advice on how to remove the rear windows on a corrado i have tried using a wire as in the bentley manual but it will not cut the sealant so far after 3hrs of trying so far all i have managed is about 3 inches using a sawing action with the wire on the vertical b pillar although the manual tells you not to. i am thinking of heating a small blade and gently cutting the sealant from the inside but iam afraid of damaging the windows rubber seal as i have never seen what this looks like before being mounted. maybe i should cut my losses and arrange for a windscreen fitter to call and remove them for me before i loose my temper and end up doing some real damage!!
  16. S**T i have to dismantle it even before it has done one rotation!!! ah well i seem to throwing money away at the moment
  17. I have just reassembled my g60 charger but think i have made a mistake I replaced the displacer bearing (torrington) and fitted the relevant circlips oil seals etc can someone confirm if the displacer has an oil inlet to cool the bearing and the circlips should be installed as not to block this?. i remember reading an article but this was a g40 rebuild and this was one item that was highlighted which stated to ensure that the bearing circlips were installed as not to block it. Thanks
  18. Thanks for the replies some good honest advice there With regards to the paint that advert says that if applied correctly there is no need for a clear coat but looking at my corrado bumpers areas have began to flake (age related) and to me it is a clearcoat as the paint below is still intact!
  19. Hello rorgasm i think i have the dvd you may be talking about (how to paint your car - an american dude with hair from the 80's ) its a 2 dvd set? any way with mine only one dvd played the other stopped after approx 20 mins !!!. This seems to be a bit of a minefield - painting cars - on one hand i want to try it but dont want to spend silly amounts of money only to find i cant do it. Then as you say your own H&S is paramount as with the general public. iam lucky i have access to a store/workshop within a small industrial estate. out of curiousity what size of compressor did you buy (litres & cfm output)? ---------- Post added at 5:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 4:37 PM ---------- that paint looks interesting ? have you or know of any one who has had experience with it!
