Another thing I have noticed is once I lock the doors the courtesy light stays on for a few seconds and when it auto turns off a few seconds later I can hear the pump make a noise like its locking the doors again 1 or two seconds after the light goes out  is this normal anyone ? Maybe something to do with the Immobiliser

    Thanks

my car does this as well

  2. 993 my ultimate porsche just the right size - unlike todays 911 which are huge in comparison

Many years ago i spoke to a porsche fanatic who was having to give up ownership due to marriage and children told me that if you get the chance to buy one take it as you will not regret it if you are into fast cars (dont know if that true about the 996 or early 997 though)

Haha, but the Renault 5 turbo was awesome too. Possibly the only one I really hankered after. I liked the Rocco at the time, but always thought it was a bit grown up for me! Lol. The one I wanted mostly (please don't judge me!) was the MK2 Astra GTE. Think it was the Digi dials that had me! Lol.

astra gte - i had a mk1 in the early 90's - a very good car which i thought had a brilliant driving position - felt like you were sitting on the ground. The throttle response was fantastic due to it being a very early system compared to a mk2 golf digifant. Rust was taking a serious hold of it and it had to go

  4. yes i remember these cars - did the renault 16v have a bonnet scoop?? these were very quick cars in their day but i did not like the dash at the time. like all hot hatches as they became cheap they were thrashed to death and now all previous owners would like to own one again. seen one advertised a while back as a resto project but it needed serious body work and i would assume body panels are hard to find for these cars

  5. very common on all mk2 golfs and jettas i had the same issue - i tried a so called heat / high temp adhesive cant remember the name lasted only a couple of months and was worse than when i first attempted to repair, i think most people now use a substitute material - suede., alcantara etc and if reusing the original backing but it is essential that all traces of the previous adhesive are removed.

to me is sounds that the trimmer has used the wrong adhesive to be honest - no doubt it will be your fault as you needed to tell him what adhesive to use!!

by the way is the replacement fibreglass base a good fit seen them advertised on ebay as we are all aware the original crumbles as you remove it.

You could try and wipe a little grease around the nipple to prevent air ingress via the nipples thread - this can happen when vacuum bleeding (drawing in air instead of sucking through the fluid). I've never heard of the same via pressure bleeding but you never know (we use compressed air through venturis at work to create vacuum - a bit like the theory of a carburettor.

    Cant believe it DOX,

Took the bleed nipple completely out put a few turns of PTFE tape reinstalled a hey presto NO BUBBLES

as you say vacuum yes positive pressure no

    THANKS

I've got one of those too. Was hoping it would be better than an e-z bleed. 😬   Will be using it for the first time when I get my MC back in the next couple of weeks hopefully.

Might be worth checking the fluid in the reservoir, when I used a e-z bleed last time, it was introducing a lot of air into the fluid at the reservoir side. Thought it could have been to do with either too high pressure, or a leak so sucking in air somewhere within the pressure side.

strange its only the rear drivers side

the reservoir is 28 years old and is cloudy so cant really see things inside.

I’m on my second one of those, on the original nut that holds the pump to the reservoir cracked.

    whats the pedal like?

    pedal feels good always has.

i will give it another hour this evening see how it goes

I’ve just done my rear calliper upgrade and used about the same amount maybe a bit more. Drivers rear seemed to have more air in it too. Used a pressure bleeder that uses 20 psi out of a tyre.

seems to taking a lot of time and wasting a lot of fluid

yes its the drivers side rear too

  10. after a recent clutch master cylinder replacement i have decided to give my car a complete brake fluid change,

my last mot the tester said that the rear brakes were not operating to their required efficiency but as the car had recent disc and caliper replacement he let it pass (just)

so today using a pressure bleeder all was going well until i got to the offside rear - plenty of air bubbles

however some 4 litres and several hours later still getting micro bubbles

does 4 litres seem excessive - had to stop as i have run out of fluid.

how much fluid should it roughly take?

Yes chap seems to be lots of independents those days - I imagine the likes of Listers and Johnsons with their chains could beat them on price through their buying capacity- its a shame because I imagine the independents were quite good to deal with compared to a large network.  I Know the seller will hand make plates and stickers if you can find the logo because my golf has handmade dacales and plates ny them . I found a business card in the books of my golf from lonsdale London.

Yeah its a pity - i have 2 vw dealerships close by one part of a large chain and the other small independant

the large chain is always cash up front when ordering and i went in one saturday morning and the guy on the parts department was rude to say the least (ordering parts for older cars) looking back i should have left and reported him to their hr dept. never been back. i know a tech from this dealership says its all run by accountants and only interested in the bottom line

The smaller independant is very friendly and family run i believe - greeted with a smile going through the doors and the guys in the parts dept are brilliant take their time and pay on collection. if the part is not available they even check every other dealer in the uk to see if any have it in stock. get my business all the time now.

  12. my car was supplied by shrewsbury motors still has the sticker intact on the rear glass - dont see any sticker on the list

googled and nothing so i assume another independant vw dealer long gone

Sure is but the campaign is good compensation- red is definitely up there in my top 3 , also moonlight blue and saturn silver thereabouts. MK2 golf and a Corrado is a nice duo ( i would say that ) ha !

i suppose so but the campaign will be for good weather use only i would assume - totally agree with mk2 golf and corrado as a nice duo ,

  14. that is a very good video - surprised the car has not gone pink as all vw red cars from that era,

With regards to the corrado letting it go or not - tough decision as these cars have a habit of becoming part of you

  15. anything votex now is money now as said very rare now (golf owners used to call it SCENE TAX) and german ebay might be your best bet to find them

The mk2 golf recaro to me are the most comfortable and the best recaro seats vw ever done - once you sit in them you will understand

but keyo trying to find a good set will be a challenge - always preferred the edition 1 recaros with the blue cloth though
