  1. Forgot to mention, i get flecks of black gunk come out of the exhaust(oil?) its especially noticable after 'spirited' driving and the gunk loves to stick to the rear bumper. could be nothing but thought i should mention it.
  2. theres no obvious leaks anywhere, the sump etc are all as dry as a bone(on the outside) theres no mayo on the oil cap either and the oil is as it should be, nice and golden in colour. the coolant is clean to. i'd prefer it to be a leak somewhere but the engine bay is nice and clean with no leaks.
  3. Hello, i've not had my corrado long and i've been noticing some rather worrying signs... A week ago i visited family in Plymouth, beofre the journey i topped up oil, coolant etc and got everything back to where it should be fluid wise, i did'nt think much of it at the time but the oil was quite low(below the min mark) but as i topping it up anyway i did'nt worry. The coolant was low to and the warning light had come on previously that evening. There are wisps of white smoke from the exhaust when the engine is up to correct temperature. Anyway, everything was topped up and the car completed the roughly 700 mile round journey without missing a beat. Today i checked the levels and the oil is back to below the min mark and the coolant warning light came on last evening. The car has covered 155,000 miles and i'm guessing the the internals are pretty tired by now, i'd put my money on a combination of tried valves and tired piston rings, all the gaskets on the car where done by the previous owner not that long ago and there are no obvious leaks anywhere on the car. I'm aware that no one could give a bang on diagnosis without seeing the car but any input would much appreciated. Should i be panicing? Cheers, Tom
  4. Don't see why he could'nt have had parts off it, the scrappage scheme laws stated the chassis of the vehicle had to be destoryed, the rest of the car is(was) in theory up for grabs. Totally agree though the scrappage scheme was utter :censored: from a green point of view. If anything i'd like to see the rolling road tax come back, any car over 25 years old gets free tax, drivers of older vehicles should get some reward and incentive for keeping older vehicles going and roadworthy. Would'nt apply to rado's though, yet... :D Wishful thinking, ho hum, sorry to go off topic. Tom
  5. ok, very late spot, but thought it was worth a mention, 2 spotted in plymouth last weekend(i was visiting family), first was at the roundabout near tesco in the centre, modded black (late?) model, you were waiting at the lights just as i was setting off, i was well excited as its the first corrado i've seen since i bought mine, honestly can't remember the plate... second one was spotted parked in the blockbuster car park off union street, creamy white k reg (k *** RLL?) Red and clear rear lights bbs looked nice and i think its the one that appears on the banners from time to time at the top of the page(at least it looks like it!) Spotted loads of old dubs whilst i was down there, 2 corrados, 2 mk1 golf, 1 caddy, 1 polo g40, countless campers and beetles(no change there!) and lots of mk2/mk3 golfs and a lupo. i've owned my corrado for 2 months now and all i've spotted up here is 1 nice mk3 golf who gave me a wave and a mk2 jetta who gave a nod. :) Not to mention not actually being spotted myself...
  6. Cheers mate, appreciate it if you have, if not no worries, thanks for having a look. Tom :D
  7. Cheers mate, i'll give that a look. Tom :D
  8. Ok,cheers, saw it mentioned somewhere. Still very much learning about the 16v engine.
  9. Hi, as title, can it be done, has it been done and what sort of power gains(if any) can be had? Cheers Tom :D
  10. Cheers mate, I'm after a spare cover at the moment, plus all the other bits for the engine. Be able to eat yer tea off it when i'm done!
  11. Not sure if this should go in here or somewhere else, I'm wondering whats the best to get a cam cover (16v) cleaned up and polished, i'm used to golf mk1 8vs, which i think look best painted gloss black. But the 16v cam cover i think looks really nice polished up, anyone on here done this before, if so how, and can you do it any other parts? Cheers, Tom :D
  12. Bad luck mate, still at least you know your injectors and dissy are good. She seems to be behaving herself now, i think it just sucked up some gunk from the tank, but like i put before i'm going to get all the fuel system cleaned out at some point in the near future. Tom
  13. Went and filled the tank up today, got to the petrol station ok. Think there must be dirt in the fuel tank somewhere, as yesterday it was somewhere between half way and quarter mark. I think in the near future though i'll be getting the fuel system properly cleaned out, throttle body, injectors the lot. :) Just glad it was'nt something more serious...
  14. Hi, I took the corrado out today and after driving for 30 seconds it cut out, i thought at first i had stalled it, but it started straight away and did'nt give it a second thought, later on i had to go out again and the car cut out in the same spot, again it restarted straight away, but everytime i 'geared down'(something i got into my golf mk1) the engine revs would drop really low (400-500rpm) when i arrived at my destination(wickes for some polyfilla, get in :D ) the engine felt as if it was really struggling,i adjusted the accelorator cable anchor clip, which seemed to solve the problem. However when i came out of wickes and headed home, the car was now idling at 2,000 rpm,and by the time i gothome it was almost touching 3,000rpm, again i adjusted the clipand idle settled back to 1,100 approx rpm. the car did'nt cut out on the way home. I'm guessing it could be 1 of a few things, but some guidance would be really helpful. 1) Throttle body needs a damn good clean out. 2) Fuel tank needs a damn good clean out. 3) I noticed the fuel pump in position 3 on ignition made a 'EEEeeeEEE' sound instead of the usual 'EEEEEEEEE' sound?Could be nothing, and i do have a cold so my hearing is a bit dodgy  4) Faulty warm up regulator? I'm going to see what the car is like tomorrow, it could be something, and it may be gone tomorow, although i suspect not. That said the car is still driving and accelerating impeccably(apart from the above!) Tom
  15. Hi, looking at getting a new decent alarm system fitted, don't have a clue about these things(auto electrics tend to send me screaming in the opposite direction! :confused4: ) so any advice would be great. i'm after a cat 1, considering getting a shock sensor too, but still weighing up the pro's and con's of one. Thanks :D
  16. I thought you could only run them on super? i know the handbook says you can in an emergency use normal if theres nowt else. i'll stick with the good stuff, she's got expensive tastes...
