  1. Grab the seatbelt and use that to pull on the bonnet catch, then just use a firm palm shove over the stuck pin and 9/10 it'll come free.
  2. Both of the main parts guys at my local Veedub are nice chaps. One has a mk1 golf running a big spec kr engine, solid lifters etc, he's normally the dogs danglies when it comes to corrado parts, The other guy? Not so much... managed to order me a Golf Rad temp sensor instead of a coolant level sensor, we had a little chuckle though, so it's not so bad really.
  3. Paid for a gearbox rebuild after a selector fork took out a load of nice expensive metal bits... Didn't have to pay labour though, as he cocked up the rebuild at first, which was nice of em to do!
  4. I've found a decent 02q 6speed golf box, would this fit at all? Anyone know or be able to check for me?
  5. I've got a '90 1.8 16v with an aboltely buggered box. I suspect that both the 3rd and 4th gear synchro's are absolutely shot,I have to double clutch, rev match and pray to have any hope of getting it in gear! And I've figured it's probably easiest to swap in either a re-con or 2nd hand box, I think it's an 02a box (as are pretty much all 4cyl vw boxes I understand) so which would be best to try and pick up? I've remember vaguely reading something about it's possible to use a 6 speed polo box? Any extra benefits to this? Or a derv box?
  6. Swapped the radiator without removing the slam panel or the bumper... Took umpteen hours though.. but it's good to be back on the road! Even if I still need to change a coolant tank... as VW gave me some wrong parts! Golf rad sensor and no coolant level sensor... *Sigh* At least my coolants gonna be very... "fresh" Still need to sort the gearbox too, but need my rear brakes working for my mot this month as well!
  7. It does sound like it is definitely an airlock, Gotta remember fluid will not compress whereas air will. Similar kinda thing when your brakes go spongy, it's because the air will compress before the fluid moves.
  8. I had this particular dilemma on my first car, I'd fitted huge 300 mm brakes from a mondeo to my fiesta, which meant I could only fit 16" alloys over the front. A series of bad luck on one side resulted in me having 2 directional tyres, one facing the wrong way. 1 Non directional 13" Steel Spare 1 Non directional 14" Alloy. Talk about unbalanced!
  9. Actually started to overhaul the cooling system, then found I had to remove the bumper and slam panel to remove the radiator and both my sets of axle stands are under my focus... Resorted to stripping the radiator in situe and refurbing the fans, etc Stripping the fan off I sheared 3 bolts and managed to loose my battery retainer bolt. Anyone know the easiest replacement for one?
  10. It's a 1m hose from experience for the standard hose... I've replaced it enough ruddy times Might need a longer piece of samco hose though, or one with a bend in the end to meet the top rad bit.
  11. Started ordering parts... Where the hell can I find replacement coolant hoses?!?
  12. I'm looking at doing mine when the box is off... I do hope it's not too hard! Might need to get me a hold of a golf haynes for the engine stuff though.
  13. Clocked a van man snapping a little sneaky picture on the m62 the other day, made me chuckle.
  14. Reminds me of that Alfa that Richard Hammond had on Top Gear, which lost all the other gears... "Second is nice. It's underrated as a gear"[/quote:1ao6t144] With 2nd to 5th you're right Occasionally let me use 4th too... Anyways now have a perfect r,1,2,(4ish),5...
  15. Made 5th and reverse brilliantly smooth to get into while trying to see if I can sort 4th seeing as my third has gone amiss... Sadly forgot to tighten the bolt so I lost 1st... so I gave myself another job for tomorrow!
  16. Right, I've played with the linkages, and discovered it's very easy to loose reverse and fifth! Thankfully got them back, but still no third whatsoever and when driving 4th is only usable with some degree of rev matching. Got some photo's of my linkages though incase I was just being an idiot. passat climatronic wiring diags.pdf2010-08-16 14.16.46.jpg[/attachment:abkg9e48] 2010-08-16 14.15.30.jpg[/attachment:abkg9e48] All the circlips are there from what I can see, however a circlip at the rear seemed to pop up when I pushed third in fully? climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf2010-08-16 14.16.11.jpg[/attachment:abkg9e48] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf2010-08-16 14.16.26.jpg[/attachment:abkg9e48]
  17. I was thinking "ooh might have been spotted" then remembered Vag festival was on at harewood house
  18. Pick which kidney you want for it mate.
  19. Hah you and me both! Hopefully I can get to the stealers tomorrow and pick up any missing bits and pieces!
  20. Wouldn't that stop it from being able to use gears at all? I can still shift it into gear, I just have to rev match it...
  21. Hell on my old focus I don't think I ever paid less than £40 a corner at trade prices, Avon ZV-3's or Falkens were the lowest I would go, T1-R' Proxes or Eagle F1's were always preferred though. Currently have some Event Tyres on the 'rado, surprising grip in the dry. Not so surprising lacklustre performance in the wet. It's just lucky that the wipers limit the speed in the rain
  22. Be thankful, my paycheques are signed for by RBS. I created the whooooole world recession apparently. Nevermind the fact it was GS hiding toxic assets in ABNAmro and over valuing their portfolio before selling it on. Pah. And I don't even work for a sodding bank, I'm under the Insurance side umbrella at work. My brother currently works as a contractor for LTSB, he's actually based next door to our callcentre at their IT services thingy... although he's dealing with the Serviceline stuff for them...
  23. Thought I was having issues with the linkages, however more and more I think about it, I'm concerned I could have synchro issues? I pretty much lost third gear a few days ago, 4th soon followed suit. As far as I understand they're on different linkages and I'd have lost 2nd or 1st as well if it was a linkage issue? Made me think synchro's as when I'm pootling about, with some luck and some rev matching I'm able to hit home when trying to get it into 3rd and 4th. However, my uncle reckons it's an issue with the clutch pressure plate, but 1st and 2nd are still sweet, gear change is slightly on the heavy side but not stiff. Is this a common thing at all? I've no invoices for any gearbox/clutch work other than fluid changes and it's on 143k at the moment. Also, I found out a few times in heavy traffic as well my clutch pedal will stick down, seems to spring up when I just give it a little nudge and I'm wondering if it's related. Any help and ideas of cost would be hugely appreciated!
