Doesnt look big enough to get a bolt grip round.. Anyone know then? Having looked at it i dont see why i couldnt remove the top cover with the coilpack still attached but just need to make sure so im not wasting my time
-
Hmm might be possible but each bolt is quite close to the coilpack itself so not sure if those sockets got fit round the bolt. It's a pain in the arse that 1 screw is Gettin in the way

Right, was going to tackle removing the top cover so i can have a look at the condition of the tensioner pads/guide rail etc but i cant get the last bolt out in the coil pack that is bolted to the top cover. My question is this, does anyone know if theres any reason i cant remove the top cover with the coilpack still attached and obviously just remove all the HT leads etc as this last screw is an absolute bugger to remove and isn't budging. I dunno why they've used allen bolts to secure them on as my fingers are cut to shred now Thanks in advance

I was gonna say that that doesn't look a big enough air compressor for body spraying however after reading all of the listing it does actually look pretty smart :salute:

Theres about a million different threads on this matey. Just run a search on google and you'll see what i mean. I don't think theres any lifespan on the chains as such its more so the tensioner pads but other people have different views on it - Alot of people get them done at 100k and its a gearbox off job if you want to change them so a lot of work really.. If you're worried just look out for one that's had them changed. Some people have got cars that have upwards of 150k on them and still on original chains Different people different needs (In a David Brent voice)

You should try and rent or buy an air compressor and get an air pAint gun as the rattle cans aren't any good as the poster above has said. I have also seen good things about a HVLP which is basically an electric compressor. Not sure how good they are but the guns are pretty cheap

I'm getting a new wing so i'm going to get that professionally done and then use the old one to practice on so im basically in the same situation as you Apart from practicing it i think i basically know what i'm doing after reading hours of stuff on it and watched thousands of vids. I found this video quite helpful as it tells you all the grades of sandpaper etc to use.

I'd hope so I'll have to run a search and see what i can find My only worry is if the paint is slightly out but if theyve got the paint code then I'm sure they'll have some sort of reference points for mixing Etc
-
You sure some of the weights from the wheel balancing arent hangin off?? Happened to me before
-
Cheers for the advise lads. Yeah im trying to avoid the rattle cans because i've got a proper spray gun and a compressor. The only problem is i can only get a hold of the rattle cans for the correct pain code (blackberry purple LK4Z) Anyone know if i can get a tin of the correct paint mix from anywhere and if i get it mixed by a 3rd party do they usually have access to paint mixtures via my paint code??
-
Just about to do some painting and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the best primer to use?? Its a rust removal job so want to make sure the rust doesnt come back Im gonna go at the metal with a heat gun too to try and dry it out a bit as ive heard moisture can still stick around which can cause rust to form underneath the new paint Cheers

Yeah mate i wouldn't sell either. Even when you've done another 30k in it its still really low miles!! You make me sick :D
-
At the complete opposite end to this fella who's got a Mercedes that's done a million miles!!! http://www.ajc.com/ajccars/content/ajccars/content/stories/2008/05/28/carmercedes_0531.html

Someone who's even on half of an average footballers wage will be able to buy that no problem.. He'll probably get his asking price aswell the lucky tw*t! Imagine test driving it, ragging the hell out of it and then say "nah its not for me this one im off to look at a few others"
-
Well im sure i saw one on the sale sectin with leather and 98k on the clock which had a bit of rust too go for £3800? Or near that price anyway. You should invest in some leather, spending £500-600 on a new interior would easily get you £5,000 for the car as a whole in my opion And also sort the dent out and you've got yourelf a near brand new Corrado!

Just read this whole thread and it's honestly really inspiring stuff. I've always liked to do my own stuff but even more so now. Just need a garage now!

What size tyres you got on those wheels mate. Look a lower profile than standard so would that make them 205/40/16? Or have I got that completely wrong :s

Anyone know if this is worth tackling myself?? I've seen a few "how to's" on other forums and it seems pretty straight forward. I havent actually inspected the top tensioner pad for wear just yet but i'm going to soon. The chains are starting to make a tiny bit of noise and obviously theres loads of debate as to whether you actually need to do the chains or whether its just the tensioners you need to worry about. I've heard its mainly just the top ones that pick up the most wear and in some cases bits can actually break off. I've seen this thread http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?1264409 which shows some great stuff so it makes me think it's not going to be that hard. Any tips or experiences shared would be great Thanks

Yeah I agree mate looks spot on. Wheels sit just perfect
-
Nice mate. Did you need to use any spacers for those wheels by any chance? And are those on 9J read and 8.5J on the fronts?
-
Excellent thanks for that mate
-
Is it ok to mix and match though? Say 20 on the back and 15 or 10 on the front Say if i did do 20 on the back and 10 on the front would that then make the ET 5?
-
Anyone?
-
I've got 16V on standard 4x100 set up and am thinking of getting some wheel spacers What i want to know is, whats the maximum width i could go and is it best to just do to back or mix and match- Maybe 15mm on the backs and 10mm on the fronts? Not sure what that would do to the ET Just generally want a wider look without any rubbing Cheers in advance.

Have had an aboslute nightmare with this company and would advise anyone to steer clear. A couple of months back i used them to collect a bonnet for me as they offer what seems a great deal for car panels and wheels etc. Got collected ok but turned up about 3 days late even though i paid for 24 hour service. Thought i'd try them again to deliver some wheels to someone on here, waited in all day yesterday for the wheels to be collected....no one turned up.. So i rang the guy at Paisley Freight who only answered the phone after trying for about an hour and said that they'll definetely get picked up that day but still... no one turned up.. So today after waiting in for absolute hours and wasting time off work to wait for these p*icks to collect the wheels, i rang them and eventually spoke to someone (was given an incorrect tracking number from the guy at Paisley too i might add) and they said they turned up yesterday and no one was in!!!!!!! What an absolute lie as i was out in the garden all day waiting for them!! They've only finally just been collected after wasting what seems like my whole life of being messed about by the people at Paisley Freight. DO NOT USE THIS COURIER
