1. You wouldn't think just 8mm would have such an improvement? But then that's round the whole diameter of the disc and the calipers are probably of better design and clamp with a bit force? And they are a cheap mod so ill report back!, good ridge hoses won't go a miss with this mod to eh?

The pads have 1/3 more contact area, well worth the upgrade. Make sure you Goodridge send you the right bolts with the kit, mine were too short! They did send the right bolts next day for free though.

  2. That's interesting!

I've had ball ended cables, since before I swapped to mk4 calipers, I just thought they weren't available anymore.

I can't find any that fit for the mk4 calipers as all replacements I can find have bar ends.

On my late vr the brake cables are 20mm different in length when compared to the early vr, shorter I think?

    I'll give 1H0 609 721 A a try, thanks!

  3. i guess in the real world low end torque will be more beneficial, no? Of course you might be disappointed with a rolling road result, thats all!!

A less important issue is how does the 2.8 manifold affect the VR noise, from those who have converted to OBD2 already?

I currently have an AMD throttle body on the OBD1 manifold and really like how it drives. I'm also changing the lower gear ratios by a factor of 15%, and adding a lightened flywheel so it retain good throttle response and shouldn't be too shy of the torques. The main thing is I can try the two different manifolds now.

I'm not too worried about the noise, I must be getting old, 263 cams and a 6 branch subdue it somewhat already.

  4. Thanks for the positive response!

Here's the difference between 2.8 & 2.9 manifolds (thanks to VWVortex)

More low end torque with the 2.8, better high end bhp with the 2.9

I may be able to make some more, once I've tested it.

It's should also thick enough to accommodate water/meth or nitrous nozzles easily and neatly.

  5. Nice list! Many codes I haven't seen before.

I've gone with the longest box i could find GQM.

    With the VR6 there's lots of driven comparisons on people changing final drives to 3.6 or 3.9 ratio, as it just so happens the gears 1-4 are similar variations;

Gears 1-3 will be aprox of having 3.9 final drive

Gear 4 equates to 3.6 final drive

Gear 5 is same as VR6

    Gear 6 is for cruise.

It should equal rapid acceleration in the vr6 plus a nice overdrive gear.

Somewhere, I've got a ton of graphs I made before deciding on this box which really shows the difference (for standard wheels).

I really should get on with this build its almost been a year now.

  6. I've found the worst part of an O2S build (so far) to be removal of 6th gear without the expensive special tool as most gear pullers can't do it. Made a tool to do it, just need time to try it.

  7. Would love to see this work out, but wouldn't it be easier to re-case the gearbox, or fit the diff speedo gear and machine the case to accept the VSS?

Also, what are the ratios like on the LHE box? O2S ratios are a bit short for turbo motors.

and theguy of ebay would only refund the price of the box if I returned it and not the shipping costs so I would be £100 down on a box I gave 200

Was he business seller if so Distance Selling Regulations should apply. £200 would have been a right bargain had it been O2S, I haven't seen one on eBay for less than £400 in the last year.

  8. Well I havnt finalised such a kit, but really it would be what people are prepared to pay id try and make my costs match that. its one of those things, I know what you mean. ball park figure as it includes modules and probably brackets and looms, like £120+/-. Does that sound silly expensive or too cheap. lol but I haven't priced up components fully yet, just wanted to gauge interest before I spent too much time on it.

If its possible for that kind of money, I'm interested!

I can also help with cheap bracket fabrication if you need it.
