  1. As above. My little mk3 golf tdi is doing my head in. It has a vibrating knocking noises when slowing down after lifting off the accelerator accompanied by some nice squealing noises. The squealing is not coming from the belt side and its doesn't sound like belt squealing anyway. It vibrates/knocks at constant speed on motorway but not all the time. I know the engine mounts are fecked so new ones are on the way. I'm not convinced that is the cause. All CV boots are in good order. Knocks/vibrates weather you have clutch engaged or not (revs at idle). So I'm pretty sure its not engine related (i.e. big ends/bearings etc.) It sounds like its going to fall apart and I beginning to think it aint the bargain I had hoped for. HELP T.
  2. Its not the same sensor. Engine speed sensor is not the same as the hall (cam position sensor) sender. If you're engine speed sensor is dead, the car wont run at all. If your car was scanned with only the ignition on and the engine not running, this fault always shows up on diagnostic. This doesn't mean there is a fault with it. Speed sensor is in the region of £150, where as the hall sender is £30-40. If the cars performance is not up to scratch I would change the hall sender, however if there is a problem with it, it should be showing up a fault on vag-com. Cutting out problems can be associated with the ISV (idle stabilization valve). Often a could clean of this component with carb cleaner can solve that problem. (there are loads of threads on cleaning the ISV). Hope that helps T.
  3. Yeah I know. I said that to the guy. I wish I had taken my laptop with me. It wasn't just the performance, the whole car in general wasn't up to scratch. It was a definite walk away quickly effort. Maybe if it had been half the price the seller was asking it may have been worth the risk. T.
  4. vr6storm, Noticed that. Too much money for me. Very nice example though. Peakz, Done a fair bit of research so far. Need to get rid of the Bora to free up some ££'s T.
  5. Utter, utter bag of sh$te!!! So many things wrong with it, it wasn't even funny. Put my foot down in 2nd coming off round about and nothing happened. No face ripping, zip, nada, zero. Something seriously wrong somewhere. My guess is, its gone into limp mode or something because it wasn't right thats for sure. Very disappointed, however my search continues. T.
  6. Not at the moment. Might be selling the Bora at this rate. I need a Audi S4. Thanks though T.
  7. Help me. Organised a viewing of a S4 tomorrow. I've got two problems, number 1, I am out of control and want this car, number 2, probably will be skint for the next 10 years. better make it 3 problems, I think my Dad might loose his rag this time and kick my ass!! Anyway, info on the car. Its Silver 1998, an avant (of course), has rs4 alloys and has been tuned by AMD to 330 bhp and has a full exhaust system to boot. Its not in perfect condition and needs a little TLC but that doesn't bother me cos I like to fiddle. Engine wise its fine. I thought I had got away from wanting one at least for a while, but this has turned up and the price is very good. Please help me. Insurance quotes are around the £600 mark so thats not going to be a problem and I wont be using it every day. Taking the Corrado of the road for a while and will only use the Audi occassionly as the fuel bill will kick my ass. Bye to the Bora and a really cheap diesel run around will be bought to go back and forth to work. Any thoughts?? T. (Currently got crossed eyes thinking about this so much. Biggest decision so far in life)
  8. I know you are saying that with good intentions, but I disagree. I think it's a bit rich 'doing' someone travelling at 46 in a 30 at 11pm.I'm not saying that by all means travel at whatever speed you wish at night, but really-couldn't the tests be conducted at an appropriate hour? Its at those times most people totally take the p$ss with their speeds and think that 30 mph no longer is applicable. At what time would you like the speed limit to be raised from 30 mph?? 10pm?? 11pm?? At night you have less visibilty and have a much, much less chance of seeing someone or something. In fact it would be safer lowering the speed limit at night due to these facts alone. For that same reason, Police responding on emergency runs at night on motorways etc. travel at lower speeds than during the day because you cant see as far in front of the vehicle. (E.g. The range of the headlights and that you cant see the road that far ahead) Advanced driving is all about looking far, far further ahead than a normal driver in order to travel at greater speeds safely. When you cant do this due to road conditions and visibility, you have to lower your speed. Rule 1: Never drive so fast that you cannot stop in the distance you can see to be clear. Thats probably taking the argument too far but I hope you can see the point I am making. T.
  9. If you had been going 50+ you would not have received a ticket. You would be summons'd to court and have to explain why you were doing that speed in a 30 mph zone. No offence, but doing 46 mph in a 30 is pretty bad and you deserve the 3 points even though it was 11pm. Its 30 for a reason. Have you seen the 'If you had been doing 30 mph, you would have stopped here' advert?? T. T.
  10. No insurance will usually get you 6 points on your licence too. T.
  11. PhatVR6, Have you still got R32 suspension on your mk4 golf? What did you think of it?? T.
  12. Not sure. I've heard that with mkiv golfs and boras with front arbs Dont think it will effect a rear arb on the Rado' T.
  13. rear arb. Train on track springs to mind, from what I've heard. Haven't got one myself but from what I've heard they make a nice difference. T.
  14. only 6 ever made I think. There is, or used to be someone on here with one. T.
  15. 850 T5R Nice choice. I take it that fuel consumption isn't a major issue? My Dad has a V70 R AWD. Bloody awesome cars!!! T.
  16. That is bloody awful!! I love the current S-type but that is not nice T.
  17. You could hide the box and just listen to the beeps.
  18. Well I was thinking, if the sensors were rubbish I could rip the whole lot out and only have to replace the bottom skirt rather than a complet bumper. Works really well. Best 15 bucks I have ever spent. We'll see how long it last though. But at that price I'll just be having another kit if it breaks. Ebay rocks!!
  19. Couldn't bring myself to drill the bumper so I had a look at the bottom rear skirt. Low and behold its angled slightly upwards so I thought happy days.
  20. Fitted. Pics to follow shortly T.
  21. Come on, Timo, be brave, radical and sensible! The Chubzer is correct, I did have them fitted after reversing into a rickety wooden post at a garden centre - I am an old git after all and we ain't too proud to go against macho fashion and do something sensible to correct matters! The Corrado rear vis is the worst of any car I have owned - only a foolish young buck would deny you need 'em! Very true about the rear visibility. Dont really use the Rado' that much to justify putting the sensors on it. Have more trouble with the Bora, can never judge where its sticky out bum is and therefore feel it would be better to use them on it. T.
