PROBLEM fixed, yeehaa. I can't believe how smooth the car is running now (due to the hall sender!!!). Performance is what it should be, outstanding. well chuffed!!   cheers for all the help simon

Got the pipes orderd today. £6.50 each    . Had to pay the premium though to get them there by tomorrow. So that's another £5. But as I was told, the premium is applied to every part you order. I ordered two parts so that's £10!!!! . The pipes are only 6 inches long for christ sake. Moaned at the parts guy and he said he would give me the parts trade price so that'll save a few quid if I'm lucky. Better than nothing though. Cant wait to get her back on the road. Roll on tommorrow!!! timo

"did the expansion cap stop the leakage until the pipes blew!!" Emm, didn't have change to find out. Its only a really low water loss, probably need a week of driving to suss whether it worked or not. Pretty sure the cap was the problem. The new cap definitely made the pipe go boom!! The weakness was there though and it could have been much, much worse. It only steamed out rather than completely bursting and dropping the entire contents of the cooling system. Still annoying though. Want to get out in it now that its going soooo smoothly and rapidly  timo P.S. the expansion cap is only a fiver, worth a shot!

Cheers, I would never sell it anyway, every!!!! never, never, never. No matter what. Just gets me down a little. But it is now going like a train. Its just that its now in pieces and its raining cats and dogs here. Poor thing  Should have it sorted soon though. I do enjoy being able to fix it myself. I know the car like the back of my hand now. 8) ta timo

Any idea how much the pipes will be. Gonna replace both of them. ta timo

I found the induction kit was very bad for the skakes when booting it. That's why I've gone back to the airbox, and the fact I get a little sick of the noise. ta simon

Might try experimenting with it and out of the airbox when I get my new K&N panel filter through the post. timo

Went to collect a new 'hall sender' for my vr6 this morning in a vain attempt to cure my perfomance issues. The short journey from the Vw garage back to my girlfriends house (a mere 2 miles) = one split coolant pipe + a shed load of steam. Felt like putting the car on autotrader and be done with it. Just one big money pit that never gets filled. However, my theory is.... Yesterday I replaced the expansion cap because the car was loosing a little amount over time and reading another thread the other day pointed to the cap being the culprit. It was rather blocked up by the looks of it. So, new cap on = bit more pressure in the system, probably the right amount = weak, 10 year old oil cooler coolant pipe going, "I've had enough of this, I'm splitting". Car is now in pieces after a rather sedate drive home and I'll have it back on the round on tuesday at the earliest. What a nightmare. Any views or comments welcome, some support would be nice  cheers simon

Does removing that 'helmholtz resonator' thingy have any effect on performance. I.e. loss of?? I have removed it due to the general theory that it help give a wee bit more voom. ta timo

From reading many a thread on this forum I would say the fuel consumption for the 16v, g60, vr6 are very similar. I have a vr6 and driven carefully can return low 30's in mpg. Have had up to 37mpg on a very, very chilled out sunday drive. I found it very surprising since the vr is just short of 3 litres. The sound and refinement is unbeatable. As the VW mechanic said to me today, its a hell of an engine. ta timo

Dont know whether the seals would come with it. Just order both at the same time. I would be inclined just to do the seals and not buy an oil cooler. Oil cooler leaks are a common problem at it is almost always the seals. But if you want peace of mind do both. Try doing a search on the forum for the oil cooler instructions. I'll try and type out what I did if you are struggling in finding anything useful. It is straight forward, obviously requires an oil change at the same time!! If the leak aint to bad, then you could leave it until your next service is due. Mine actually began to leak less the longer I left it as I didn't want to fork out for new oil/filter. timo

Dont drill it, as it'll still suck in hot air, especially the vr. You want to remove the carbon cannister and in the hole that it leaves (directly under the airbox) you want to get a cold air feed pipe (from halfords etc). Then drill a big hole in the bottom of you airbox for this pipe to feed cold air through the pipe into the airbox. Hope that makes sense. Oh and add a K&N panel filter Plenty of threads on this and removing the carbon cannister timo

changed the hall sender this morning and boy what a difference. I'll be waiting a few days though to make sure its ok before I break out the beer! Went to the VW garage to pick the part up this morning. From driver from the dealers to my girlfriends house (2 miles max), return home to find stream coming out of the front of the car. I thought 'oh for fooks sake, what now!!' One of the coolant pipes at the front of the engine is pissing steam out of it. Cant really see which one it is. I'm pretty sure its the pipe that goes from the oil cooler into the front of the engine block. Really annoyed!!! Its just one thing after another. STill its going well so I am well chuffed with that. I'll just have to drive very, very slowly till I have chance to sort it. ta Simon (feed up!)

cheers man, had the engine cover off this morning to get the part number for myself. Thought I may aswell. I would have to take it off to replace it anyway. I just hope this cures my problems. I've tried alot of things already. Its running nice and smooth though, so I must be doing something right. Its can lack va va voom on many occasions though. Its weird and very annoying!! still we shall find out tomorrow when I get the part - 26 bucks +vat cheers for the help kev ta Simon

Thats what I thought, could do with the part number if anybody has it. It will save me taking mine out again to have a look at it to get the number of it. Simon

Need a hall sender (cam position sensor), or impulse sender if you are a VW stealer. Just been in to the stealers to order one. Read on threads on forum, price should be around £35. Oh no, tis £140 according to them. Told them to stick it where the sun dont shine. Thought they were getting confused, but it looked like the right part on the screen. I know that the engine speed sensor is about that price. Me thinks they are confused. By the way mine has a coilpack not a dizzy. I was going to get it from gsf, but they only seem to do them for dizzy models. Need part number so I can go back to make sure that price is for the right part cheers simon (in a rather shocked state) £140!! blimey charlie

bugger, iv'e done it again. I meant needforspeed.co.uk. That's twice I've done that now  sorry timo -
oh christ!!!   I'm not a religious man but i'm praying now. I'm sure tis the old cap. Does look a bit goosed I must admit. Might go and get a new one, like now! bye timo

The seals are really cheap, couple of quid. Usually go bye bye because of the constant high temperature from the engine. They are a bit fidely to replace as it a wee bit tricky to get to. Oh, and be careful not to bust the plastic coolant pipe that cos above the cooler. I did when I replaced my seals. The plastic was very brittle though (ten years of hard graft). Luckly I broke it then rather than it busting under pressure  , which would have been nasty. timo
-
as above. If thats what you after, going a wee bit cheaper on that site. Also K&N replacement filters for Corrados still have 20% off (old stock). Just ordered one for ma vr. Get a bit tired of the noise from the induction kit. Best of both worlds now 8) hope that's of some use ta timo *Mod edit - changed URL to .co.uk - Henny*

shrick manifold (thanks to vr6storm), cams, chipped. You'll have to do alot to spend 3k. Emm... supercharger would help get rid of all that dosh. Think its about 2 grand these days for doing that. hope that helps. timo
