Replaced the front engine mount not that long ago after thinking that the engine was moving up at the front just wee bit too much when revving the car while stationary. The new one has made no difference. I now wish I had gone for a upgraded front mount. Is there anything I can do to firm it up or am I stuck with the way it is. P.S. all the other mounts have been replaced too. cheers simon

Star Performance did the chipping. They are in Glenrothes. Superchips :pukeright: . Emmm, there must be some place that you can send it. Not sure where though. simon

Get it chipped, its probably the easiest and cheapest option (I think/hope). Usually about £250 and it will easily get it past the 200 bhp mark. Had mine done about two months ago. Gives 205 bhp and 195lb/ft torque. One of the best things I've ever done with it, so far anyway 8) simon

job done finally, had a hell of a problem getting one of the 3 pulley bolts off. In the end I had to jack the engine up so far that I managed to get the pump and pulley pulled out together!! I then had the task of getting the finally bolt off, which was considerably easier now I wasn't working in a small space. Anyway managed to get that off and the new pump in, filled up with cooling. Had it running to check for leaks. Not had it out for a spin yet. Oh, changed the rear engine mount too. That was the easy part. Also have pink coolant now, which I might add I got for free from the VW garage   . Think the guy there feels sorry for me! I all did another wee mod before I started on the rest this morning which was to put a small breather filter on the crankcase breather pipe. I'm so sick if cleaning out the air intake pipe and the throttle body. Got the filter of ebay for a £10 including postage and the quality of it is amazing. I was really impressed. Real chrome and really well made. Cheers for all the help. Much appreciated. Simon

Just been out for a blast in the car, as you do 8) . Got back to the house and the old beast was making a high pitched squeak noise. (had it happen once before but it went away). Had a wee look under the front of the car and there was some splatter of water around the left hand side where the pulleys are. Oh god, not the water pump, please, please, please give me a fecking break here!!!!   The b%^$%^£ thing has bit the dust, coolant is drippling down from it. Does it have seals that go , or is it a new water pump job?? (i think so) What fun that's going to be!!!! :x :x Found it on gsf for £25 +vat. Is that about the right price?? Plus I thought I may aswell do the rear engine mount while I'm on cos its the only one that hasn't been done yet. Again this seems to be around £37 on gsf. Is this about right?? cheers boo hoo. What a nightmare!!! timo

Mmmmm...... think I know what you mean. Just never made the association between the sound and what the engine is actually doing (pinking). cheers timo

yeah, it still has the symptoms of guide wear... I give up too!!! Gonna see how I get on with it over the next few weeks. See if it settles into the new oil. This morning was mainly steam when i first started it but there was a wee hint of blue smoke in there. Not bad at all though. I am still confused and a little frustrated.... arghhh, i'll just have to live with it. Not as if its doing anything bad to it really. I dont have a valve on my breather house like some of the vr's. How much for a compression test usually?? ta timo

Only get smoke after sinking the throttle after slowing down in one gear for a wee will. Like for slowing down for a roundabout. Get it starting the car in the morning, although this morning it wasn't bad at all. Seems to be looking alot white'r than blue at the minute as the oil has just been change. Dont get anything when changing gears or from generous use of throttle under normal conditions. I am gonna keep a keen eye on the oil to see how much it uses from now on. I tell you something else there is always alot of oil splatter in the air intake pipe just before the TB. Obviously get alot coming through the breather pipe. Always thought putting a wee filter on it and blocking off the hole on the intake tube to stop this. Doesn't matter how many times I clean it, it is always got a good covering. Dont suppose by any chance this could be the cause of the smoke?? highly unlikely!! timo

I have to say that it dont use anywhere near as much oil as it did before I had it done. In fact its been 1000 miles since it was done and I haven't had to top it up at all. The head rebuild must have helped to some extent. What I do now is try and avoid the driving style that makes it smoke and hope that it helps a wee bit. Spent 5 hours washing and waxing it today. Damn it looks good 8) 8) cheers Kev Simon

got it done at Star P. I am very confident about their work as that is why I went there.... and also they do a good price  Whats the worst that will happen if I carry on using it? Not alot. Dont start with the Police till next year (January). I'll be skint until then!! :( timo
