  1. Could been lambda sensor too along with many others. Vagcom machine is a definite, the quickest, easiest and cheapest (well maybe, most VW garages charge about £20, more in big cities) way to find out exactly whats wrong with it. Timo P.S. Yup, there is always something. Not trying to put you off, but it took me ages to find out what was wrong with mine. Intermitant signal from the hall sender was the culprit. It lost resolution when warm and any other random time it felt like it.

Spark plugs have never fouled up since head rebuild. They are all in good condition and are of all the same condition. There is no difference between them at all. I had a really good look at them today. They all look fine. Simon

Do you reckon number 1 is the cause of the oil burning on overrun then??? or difficult to say? I beginning to think it must be, oil consumption is soooo much less now and the smoking is far less. The head must have been a contributing factor before but obviously not the only factor. Still, they are good figures and its made me feel very relieved. simon
  4. Hall sender could also be the problem, this sensor can cause a large drop in power(up to 30bhp). Have you got loss in power?? or does it just stutter a bit then go like the clappers? Best thing is to get you car plugged into VAG COM and see if anything flags up. timo

Done the compression test. Well happy    results : - 1 --- 190 psi 2 --- 197 3 --- 192 4 --- 208 5 --- 195 6 --- 203 all I can say is    Seem rather high, had the head skimmed so I would assume that's where the high results come from!!??! Number 1 is the lowest (surprise, surprise), but number 6 is the second highest!! I thought number 6 was the first to go?!?! Back to the drawing board though  but really happy it aint bore wear. Suppose there is a big difference from number 1 and 4 - 18 psi!! Maybe that could be the problem maybe? not sure ta simon
  6. Just done a compression check on my VR6 and got some excellent results. I almost think i've done it wrong but surely I can't have. Here they are anyway:- cylinder - results bar/psi (roughly) 1------ 13.1/190 2------ 13.6/197 3------ 13.3/192 4------ 14.4/208 (!!!!! ) 5------ 13.5/195 6------ 14.0/203 (again  ) Now surely if I had not done it right I would have got very low numbers. I I disconnect the fuse for the fuel pump and removed one spark plug at a time whilst I was done the test. I have to say these results are very good. They should be 189 for new according to bentley!!! and 190 is my lowest result. They are all pretty consistent also (well pretty much). Number 1 is the lowest. Kinda expected that!!! But number 6 is the second highest!!! blimey!!! Now, most of you might know that I have just had my head rebuild about 2 months ago and a very well known place and I am still getting smoke booting it after overrun and on cold starts when revving. I had almost 100% put it down to bore from comments of this forum but surely that not it. How the heck is the oil getting into the cylinders???? I almost wish it did have bore wear!! (not really!!) but I would at least know what is causing the problem. Where should I go from here? Maybe I should seek advice from where I got the head rebuild. I'm really chuffed with the results, but also considerably confused too!! cheers Simon

Oh, ok. How does it accelerate wear?? Maybe I'll not put that in  Can you explain how to do the compression test please? cheers simon

I live in Lockerbie, just over the border (scotland/england). Might have a look on the halfords website for the tester. Just been in Halfords in Dumfries to get "STP oil treatment". ta simon

MMmmmmm, maybe I should get a compression test done to. Then at least I will know what the problem is. Dont think anywhere around where I live will be able to do it. Must ask a few of my mechanic friends to find out if there is anywhere I can get it done. Happy for you Scott, but still feel sorry for myself :( Simon

Scott, I would be very interested in the outcome of your test. Whatever the reason is, we must have the same problem. Keep me updated!! cheers simon

Oh well, Maybe I shall pay more attention to the colour next time. Thing is, I've changed my driving still alot to try to prevent the situations that cause it from happening. So, I dont get it happening alot unless I am checking to see if it is still doing it which always make me unhappy :( Just have to live with it for the moment. ta simon

Tell me about it!!! It seems to be a very light shade of blue, almost white. But I guess thats cos it new oil. "If you're getting clouds of blue out the back after periods of over-run and then booting it, you've definitely got a head or block issue." Yes, that's what it does    simon

They said it looked pretty good. Had no signs of anything bad!! Still, its barely used any oil since I serviced it. Haven't put any more oil in since. Still montioring carefully and I've done a few miles since. I may at least buy some of that stuff and then I might on some random impulse put it in when it finally has used up some more oil (need room for it). Which might be a while, hopefully  . ta timo

Any thoughts on the Wynns Stop Smoke stuff. Is it worth trying or should I just give up and put up with it!! cheers timo
  18. Thought I might mention that its spelt "Reihenmotor" with an 'N'. Sorry  , couldn't help myself!!! ta timo
  19. Joe M, You're the man!!!!! cheers that what I want    thanks simon
  20. It doesn't blow oil all over the engine bay or the exhaust. I wouldn't have done the mod if that was going to happen. I used an angled piece of tube and put the filter on the end of it. With the filter pointing upwards no oil comes out, not a drop. Its just the fumes that come out of the filter when stationary that cause the smell in the cabin. Hope this makes it cleaner 8) cheers for the suggestions guys. simon
  21. thats John Kerr's (Scottish region host for the VWCCGB) yellow one and yes he does live in/near Dumfries  Thought it was. Its a well nice car. I want a yellow one eventually. 8)
  22. Cant be bothered with that carry on. Suppose I might get around to making a catch tank eventually. Mike Edwards, Emm, yeh I know that thanks. What's your point?? cheers simon

bump, was thinking about adding something to the oil to thicken it up more, like wynns stop smoke or something similar. Do you think its worth it and recommend anything else?? cheers simon
  24. bump, need picture of where this connects to........ pretty please!! cheers timo 8)
  25. Calling vr6 guys. Anyone got a wee air filter on the engine breather pipe?? Put one on mine the other day because I was so sick of oil getting splatted all over my throttle body and air intake pipe. Must be one of the many reasons vr's burn oil. Anyway, done it, looks pretty trick. Only thing is when I slow down to stop at a junction or when dodging about town at very slow speeds I get an oily smell in the car. Fine at cruising speeds. Dont really think there is much that can be done to stop it but I was just wondering if anyone else suffers from the same problem. cheers simon
