you might as will put on 30mm springs. Isn't too low, not too high. Like Nige says, your car is low mileage and 30mm wont wreck it at all. You also dont want to go over speed humps at , as Rams says .2mph. Mine could go lower on my coilies but i still have to take speed bumps really slowly, so springs would be a good compromise i reckon. You could get top adjustables when/if your shocks are knackered, but at the moment, you might as well keep the money for other bits that you want done. You'll probably be happier that you got a lot for your money. If you do get a kit, then at least your spending around £350 insted of £500-£600. You shouldnt even need uprated bushes either, apparently brand new VW are quite tough anyway. just spend some on making sure everything under there is top condition.

i've also heard that you do slightly have to "modify" the MK4 calipers. but not sure on the info.

I really REALLY don't think so for some reason.

Am i missing something? :? ...

Cheers boy-o! VR6, yeah well sorta. Cause blue is such a bloody hard colour to make lightwise, i did have to change a bit. If i bought the light filters myself, i probably wouldnt of had to change the bulbs... As it is, i think LED's are personally too bright, and too much damn hassle. VW used filters, why couldn't I? I wanted to be able to dim the lighting still too. I used two blue filters on the clocks, and swapped the bulbs from 1.8w to 2.3w. Believe it or not, the switches are actualy sweetie wrappers and the heater controls are a MAJOR pain in the a$$.

Thats probably why then i heard so many bad reports about the Koni's being too firm, i've heard exactly the same about all eibach springs. No, not necisarily tailored for that car, but the cars weight. BMW probably build the springs to different spring rates, then FK find the weight of the car and work out what kind of spring rate it requires. ie. if two cars have the same front end weight then they'd more than likely use the same springs, but the kit would be different because of different fixings, which is FK's job of fitting them to the correct strut. It'll just be a engineering sub contract for [a division of] BMW. (ie not springs actually stolen off models of their cars!!! LOL) You lean something new every day :D

Venom used to do a slight extension that blended into the original one. was quite nice actually.

well with coilovers too, you can go this low! No problem mate, im sure when aot of people log on tomorrow, they can help you too. Again, welcome to the forum!!!

hi there. Some (all?) coilovers are actually built as a shorter strut and therefore cant be extended to standard ride height. But, the the higher the car - the less compression on the spring - the more travel it has - the comfier the ride. Make sense? With coilovers, if you think its to tough, raise it. if you dont worry to much about the looks height wise. Possibly yes, possibly no. I read a report a guy did on his scooby where he fitted Leda coilovers to his car and took them off about two weeks later. they were too firm. Spax too are apparently crap. I like My FK's though. I was told by alot of people Konis too wee too hard, but alot of pepole use them, it all depends on what you can live with i guess. To also answer you question though, you could probably improve your ride by just fitting new springs! way cheaper too, just gotta find the right make, eibach are supposed to be notoriously hard anyway and there probably lies the heart of your problem. There may even be a possibility that you could use standard springs, you'd have to wait for someone else to answer that though.

I've also heard the H&R can be tough to get along with too. I have FK coilovers on mine and they come in about £600. Ride depends on what you can live with. the lower you go, the tougher it gets. i could lower mine more, but i'm really happy with the ride and it was meant to be a nice comfortable car, (though i have just photoshopped it lower and it looks a lot better, so i may have to experiment!! LOL) I have heard of people taking off certain brands of coilovers because it made there cars slower cause they couldnt drive to fast over bumps and rough surfaces etc. Coilovers are derived directly from the race track and alot of companys therefore build them to withstand certain 'tolerances'. its best to try coilovers before you buy if possible. some kits out there can be easier to live with than alot of lowering kits too though. Another factor is cost. Coilovers start at about £350 for non-adjustable dampning, £450-£550 for Fully adjustable, and over £700 your talking about silly kits that make you coffee. If you want to set the height and can live with your ride, the yeah, go for the cheaper options, if you want a better control on your ride adn aren't too concerned with exact lowering heights, try top adjustable shocks (like Koni) and get advice on Spring makes and heights by alot of other people. i think bilstein's are meant to be quite comfy i think i that heard a while ago anyway. Everyone seems to have their own opinion. For my 2p im gonna reccommend the FK konigsport coilover kit though. i've had this on my car for a while now and am extremly happy with them. Koni top adjustable shocks tailored springs and a lifetime warranty (not the quickest aftersales in the world though.) im pleased with the way it drives and have it set up quite nice too. Im even tempted to get a set for my Golf and my girlfriends polo! with coilovers though, you should take a week of driving with your rear shelf out for adjustments on the dampers after they've bedded in for about a month, theres no point buying adjustables if your not going to adjust them or notice a difference. Hope this helps.

Heres the pics supplied from Dibbs. Cheres Bud. :thumbleft:

Well I'm running Focal's polyglass V2's and they can sound amazing. Never heard a bad thing about them, a bit expensive but its also the speaker that audioscape recomend too.

shane k, Nice car mate, looks top condition too. Wheels are nice, they look huge!!! i fancied a set on a Black Corrado....before i found my grey one.... :?

I was thinking about this kit for my Girlfriends polo but i think i've tracked down a set called powertech (from Reiger actually i think) only height adjustable, but i can get them for £350!!! Great. Im getting them from a guy that aint too far away. He reckons the top adjustables will come in about £480 though, but aint got the full price list yet? I was surfing for coilovers last night actually on Venom's page too but i forgot if the supersport are fully adjustable?

Oh and while i'm at it, Star performance fitted my coilovers for me and the owner Jim told me of a car that came in with Spax coilovers on, he took it out for a test drive and could't believe how solid they were. When he went to check how it was set up, he found that it was set to the softest setting!!!!!

The Koni's are made to fit a wide variety of vehicles, as has been pointed out. Koni make a Kit for a nonspecific Corrado which is the same kit for models of MKIII Golf and i think someone said MKII Golf, which should fit a MKIV Polo too. Thats what my point about FK coilovers has been. They have car specific Kits. (ie. G60 and VR6 C's have different part numbers from each other and all other models too. (G60 and 16V are same for obvious reasons though.)) At the end of the day though. The Koni Kit is still a good piece of kit and lets face it, its always going to be better than standard isn't it.

biggrim, If you know any bikers, they;re chain wax is excellent for that job. Mine started to squeek and groan, sprayed some on to a cloth, rubbed it on and it dries as a hard wax. never heard it since.

any1 got any funny storys about racing other cars?
dubster82 replied to sefton's topic in General Car Chat
I had a go on a Sierra Cossie. It looked like it was tuned, but i thought i'd have a go anyway, just incase it was "just" an exhaust he had. He took me to a long straight open piece of dual carriage way and pulled in to the left lane at the first set of traffic lights to let me come up his right. Picture the scene though, there was no looks, revving, pointing by either driver. Nothing to justify a race. Now i'm a young looking guy, i had a bad hair day, so i was wearing my baseball hat. Sitting at the line, you had the feeling of "yeah, were going to race" but because of the way it happened, i also had the "What if he doesn't want to race, i smoke it off the lights, and end up loking like a knob" feeling. So i was going to take it easy at first. Lights turn green we both roll a bit, BOOM Cossie Goes for it! At this point i didn't think he was going to bother and had the clutch in to go to second, lifted the revs, flicked it back to first.. oh no too much, dropped the clutch BOOM, my cars jumps forward, my phone that was sitting nicely in the dash was now in the back seat, the front end jumping about trying to get grip unsuccesfully, bang woops that was the limiter killing of my revs as i change to second, fall out of any kind of power band and cant stop laughing at myself. Obviously i just gave up.... The Moral? Always attempt a Cossie. At least it'll be fair if he decides to go for it too!!! I've learned my lesson... :( Also, Not so funny, i was driving round the back roads like i usually did in my Golf, get stuck behind a corsa in a village. through the village and the corsa kinda goes for it (It was winter and was snowing) so i kept up behind him. i had the feeling he was trying to shake me off, and unfortunalty i think i was proved right as when we came over a hill i slowed down as you do (especially as it was snowing) and noticed there was a drift accross the road up ahead. Naturally i slowed right down for it, as the corsa didnt seem to bother, went right into the cloud of snow, which had left a good solid thick covering of the stuff on the road that he slid on, hit the verge lifted 6ft  clipped the top of a fence flipped over, landed and rolled twice in the field!!!   I skided to a halt ran over and jumped over the fence just as he managed to get out. Unbelievably at aglance there was only about 3 dents on the car!!!! all cushioned by the enormous amount of snow in the field at the time, and he was completly ok, completely shooken up mind you, but very lucky. i sat him in my car and waited for his parents to come. it was quite surreal. His car was written off though, so it must've been a bit worse under the skin than three dents  Scary stuff. The moral? Dont bother with Corsa drivers!!! just keep WELL BACK!!! LOL
