Well having switched from a Corrado to a TT225 Coupe six months ago, I thought I'd give my tuppence worth... I've done nearly 8K miles in it now, and mileage is showing 54K. In that time I've had only 1 fault with the car, which was a faulty Diverter valve (which cost £22 to buy and was an easy half hour DIY job to replace). Agreed, there are some serious reliability problems with certain components on the TT. The dashpod (instrument cluster) does seem to be prone to early failure (though mines okay at the moment, touching wood furiously!). Audi customer services have been terrible at resolving this problem (check out the TT forum if you want some very interesting reading on this). The dashpod itself is made by an Italian company, so this might explain the unreliabilty! Another recent fault seems to be with the DSG gearbox on the 3.2 V6, though most of these are being dealt with under warranty at the moment. As for driving enjoyment, I find the TT a real hoot. It has loads of grip in the wet or dry, a fantastic smooth engine with loads of tuning potential, an interior that just oozzes quality and an exterior that is a design classic. Granted, the level of driver involvement through the steering and suspension could be better, but this can be improved on by the addition of a good quality suspension setup such as the Koni/ H&R combo. The car as standard is more of a cruiser than a B road bruiser, but that just suits me fine. All in all, I think the car is fantastic. As for the TT being a gay or hairdressers car all I can say is I haven't met either of them in the TTOC yet! Cheers Mark

Hi Andy, I always thought that squeaking noise was coming from the dash when I had it - guess I was wrong! :oops: Could it be the 'helper' spring (smaller spring) on the coilovers rubbing on the main one? Try a bit of the silicon spray I gave you on the springs and see if that helps. I've seen your other thread on decating the car - I think you will find that the cat test came into force for all cars reg'd after Aug '92. *Flame suit on* I bought an Audi TT 225 coupe today Okay, I know what you guys think of the TT, but I am really impressed with the car. The handling isn't quite as sharp as my coilovered C, but I was after something a tad more comfy than my C - I must be getting old!. The power delivery is really smooth, and available from low down revs, unlike my 16V. The grip from the Quattro system is also very impressive. Cluastraphobic - yep, but I'm a small chap so that doesn't bother me! Hairdressy - possibly, but maybe that's because it's such a damn nice looking car, rather than agressive looking. Don't get me wrong - the Corrado has been a hoot to own over the last 3 years, but that has been tainted ever so slightly buy the amount I have had to shell out on repairs! Fingers crossed the TT doesn't go the same way. I'll get my coat and flame suit :wink: Cheers Mark

IMO I think the ride quality and handling would be pants with the 80 mm setup, plus you would probably need arch mods to stop rubbing issues. 55 mm looks the right drop on a Corrado.

I would say that that price includes the VAT - their price for FK Konigsport coilovers is £629, which sounds like a INC VAT price to me. I paid £180 for my lights at inters a year ago (from Gwent VW), so the price they are quoting seems right. HTH Mark

All sorted now - I called out a diagnostic expert, and he said it was the AIR FLOW METER that was faulty. Just so happens it failed at the same time as getting the HG done! I got a second hand one and now it's running sweet as a nut :D Car will be up for sale in the next couple of weeks, as soon as I get my TT 225. thanks for all your help chaps. Cheers Mark

My 2.0 16V has the same rack as the VR - more £££ than the 1.8 16V one :roll: I'm not sure about the pump though!

I had a recon rack from ECP fitted to my C in December 2003 at Yaash motorsport - £180 for the rack and £100 to fit. 3 months later it was leaking badly from the gaiters (losing about 1/2 litre of fluid a week!). Got straight back to Yaash and they sorted out a replacement one from ECP, and they recovered the refit costs from ECP as well - top guys at Yaash! New rack feels fine, nice and tight and direct steering. Just beware the quality on the recon ones can vary! HTH Cheers Mark

Cost £400 - but the mechanic said he wouldn't charge me any more to put it right if it is his fault. Lets hope he can find the problem tommorrow when I take it back there.

cheers randal, I'll try those suggestions first. I'm a bit concerned about the advice on skimming the head in that thread - the mechanic said it was necessary on the 16V because the head could be warped or pitted from where the HG blew. Hope they haven't skimmed too much off and mucked-up the compression ratio - the car does feel less pokey now :(

I've just got my 2.0 16V back from getting the head gasket changed, and the idle speed is hunting very quickly between 1000 and 1200 rpm. I put a new ISV on about 3 weeks ago so I guess it can't be that. The mechanic that did the HG can't seem to find the problem - he has checked all the air hoses and they all seem fine. Any suggestions chaps? :? Cheers Mark

I think yours must have been from a different mould to mine then Henny - they were never going to line up straight from the box :? I have heard that you can file away part of the plastic housing on the 'inners' to help with alignment. Interesting point you made though about the bulb holders - I'll have to check that out tommorrow and get the drill out :lol:

Quality is okay, but not up to OEM standards. Mine had a small section of glue overun comimg from the bottom of where one of the lenses was bonded to the casing, but a sharp knife soon got ride of it. The main problem with these lights (fk and in-pro) is the alignment is terrible! I had to oversize the mounting holes and 'bend' some metal around the hatch area to get them to fit how they are now. A good 2 hours work! :shock: Having to make up a custom loom using spade terminals was also not what you would expect. I'm really surprised FK (and in-pro to that matter) let these go into production. Despite the gripes though, I think they look so much better than the OE orange items.

Just thought I'd post a pic of my FK lights now I've covered up the chrome bits. I sanded down the chrome casing to give the paint something to 'key' to, applied 'plasti-cote' plastic primer, and then satin black paint. For the chrome bits on the perspex I used black tint spray (lots of coats). To tone down the highly reflective part on the inner lights I printed some grey shading on some clear asetate on my inkjet printer, and then cut the required shape. The tinted shape was then slipped inside the lights and clear taped into position. Hope you like em - I think they look much better!
