If you're looking at the blue cables you'll need to edit the settings in Windows for the USB port you use it on. I can't remember exactly but a quick search on here will give you the answers. I've also got the new black 12.12 canbus cable and it works a treat, no messing about with settings and it can scan the newer cars. A better buy if you can find one.
