Bournemouth/Poole Meet Saturday 20th April

I thought you'd been quiet Mr Rams! Lift sorted so that's good news. -
WEST BAY RUN - THIS SUNDAY. Providing the weather stays with us we're having an informal run down to West Bay. The more the better! Bournemouth Crew - meet at Maccy D's at Holes Bay, 10.40am. North and Blandford (that's me then) I / we will wait in the last lay-by on the Dorchester By-pass just after the Blandford turn-off. Meet there at this lay-by at 11 for a run to West Bay - Chip n Pint. Brilliant roads over the tops down to Bridport. Perhaps for those of us heading back east, we could go along the coast road? If you're wondering about the weather then I'll put a cancel notice on here by 9.30am, but hopefully it'll be blazing.

I was so chuffed when the Gnu came out of the workshop I didn't give another thought until Rams spotted it - several months later! Still - happy the transplant went well today.

Discovered how to get extra MPG and increased speed today - took the back wheel off and found a ton of dirt around the sills. Cleaned it all out. Just need to do the others now! Pic shows before a clean. . Then it was time to move the VR6 badge which had been put on the wrong side after the re-spray. After looking on here for the relevant info, I got myself some tape. Carefully peeled of the VR6 badge which left some sticky sponge residue (this easily cleaned off). Stuck the badge to the tape and cut away excess tape. Then fixed it where it should have been. Looks just right - again!

Just found this post and am going to try to remove the VR6 badge which was stuck on the left side by the paint shop. Hope the old tape doesn't rip the paint off or scar it?! Oh well, suck it and see I guess. BTW - thanks for the close up images!

Dug out the still fresh pot of paint from the respray last year and used a calligraphy brush to touch in some detail on the sills. Very pleased too. The did some hefty polishing and tried out the "Sonic Scrubber" - yes you did read that right, that I bought in Aldi. Genius thing it is too. Cleaned all the crud off my rear lock and was great at removing dirt around bolts in the engine bay. I even did the backs of the bonnet supports and look forward to another work out with me scrubber. Entered the Show 'N' Shine and came second to the gleaming VR6 in my head. Ah well, better luck next time eh? ---------- Post added at 7:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 7:00 PM ---------- Dug out the still fresh pot of paint from the respray last year and used a calligraphy brush to touch in some detail on the sills. That list of endangered species makes for amusing reading.http://classics.honestjohn.co.uk/top-10s/top-20-endangered-british-cars/ Happy to see that British Leyland's Allegro is at the top with only 291 to go! This has to be the top of the list when it comes to BL ineptitude, along with the Marina (Got a soft spot for the Rover SDI which I once had the pleasure in...). The BL story is a pretty sad one and is typical of British industry as a whole, with management at odds with unions at odds with politics. While Germany were agreeing with unions to freeze pay and increase productivity, we were busy making cups of tea and standing around a brazier. When we weren't doing that we were making pretty rubbish cars. So, good riddance Allegro. Roll over Allegro, make space for a well made classic - the Corrado.

You can see from this http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?q=corrado how many are left and how many are murdered each year. Pretty much discount the Storm figures as they are just re-badged, leather-clad beasts (not that I'm jealous - much), and the DVLA mix them in with the VR6 - rightly so (ahem) IMO! Mortality % rate 16V - 78% G60 - 74% Automatics - 69% VR6 - 50% Taken from 2001 - 2012.

Spotted L Reg 'Rado on the Oxford / Swindon Road, Friday, 17th. Waved and flashed. Was in the silver Gnu.

Hi Steve, Payment sent with delivery address to my wife's work address. Cheers :thumbleft:

Nice work Craig. No wobbles I hope! The car is looking as good as it sounds!
-
Good spotting. Looks like I'll be outside their doors in the morning. One for the car, one for the house!

Hi Dave. Yep, I'd love to get this bit tidy too! Also, would love to know about the two bolts (they are rusty screws on my VR) that are on the plate above the radiator. You had two very shiny stainless bolts with Allen heads. Oh... and if all that came with those delicious HT lead guides... ! Also happy to send you the money up front.

OK, so if you're double the age of your Corrado you might enjoy this. Yesterday I Hoovered the interior, then gave it a quick steam clean. Polished all the plastics. My lovely grey and black interior was carefully inspected by our Albino cat, Milo. After finding it nice and clean, and having 40 winks, I then had to re Hoover to remove all the white fur!
