  1. Thanks all! Rob, yeah hopefully be around in it for local meets etc this spring/summer. Look forward to seeing yours again too after all the work you've had done since I last saw it up on Plymouth Hoe. Mark, no real rust underneath thankfully. Just a little bit of surface rust easily rubbed down around the studs for various clips etc. With a rub down, bit of paint and the underseal on top - which I'm hoping to get from VW if still available, all should be good. :thumbleft:
  2. Cleaned up the rest of the underside yesterday. Looking nice and clean now, though may have one more pass at it as I've come this far, a couple more hours will make it spotless. Hands and arms were starting to come out in rashes from the thinners though! I'm going to remove the rear beam and tank strap again though, as I'd painted it before but as the front is being powder coated, I want it all to be uniform. Got the front bearings pressed out so everything is at the front is ready to go now. I also painted up the PAS rack in stone chip and it looks great. Received my goodridge hoses in vintage Matt black with SS fittings last week too. Calipers were sent off to Bigg Red today for refurbishment and electroplating, so just lines, powder coating and a load of nuts and bolts to get now. Oh, and service items ready to fire up and get back on the road late spring I expect! Getting excited to finally be on the path to driving it again after so long! :thumbleft:
  3. Awful write up from someone who obviously knows bugger all about cars, but some interesting VWs nonetheless https://www.thethings.com/cars-volkswagen-definitely-regrets-making-and-ones-they-regret-discontinuing/
  4. FML! Difficult to price admittedly, but more than twice that of a showroom condition standard example with all the options.... Not sure about that!
  5. Oh, I didn't realise they had an outlet in the states. I retract my previous statement then! :thumbleft:
  6. Think the OP is in the states so Heritage or CP probably aren't options
  7. Most machining companies would be able to do it. No real idea on how much it would cost though....
  8. No they won't. If they were larger you could get spigots to fill the difference, but uour only option would be to get them bored out to 57.1
  9. Think I remember that ones from a Seat Ibiza from a similar vintage were exactly the same too. Pretty sure I bought some but I'm away from home until the weekend so can't check part numbers and where I bought them til then. If you do a search it might come up?
  10. Keyo, if you just type Nothelle G60 into Facebook marketplace it should come up.
  11. Thanks mate, really appreciate that. :thumbleft:
  12. Theres a Nothelle G60 only 10 mins up the road from me too. Not that I'm suggesting you should jump ship Rob, I know it's feeling like a big spend roundabout at the moment but hopefully you'll get the leak sorted and it'll ease the frustration bit. Maybe just use it and not worry too much about small patches or issues here and there. Not to let it get out of control, but step back from trying to achieve a perfect car all the time and just enjoy it for what it is mate. Just a suggestion, but I'm sure you'll make the right choice for you mate. :thumbleft:
  13. Thanks mate. Any idea what it costs? The cheapest ones I've seen on eBay are from Germany and about £250 taking return into account. Not sure if it's worth taking the risk as there was nothing wrong with mine on removal, and I do have a spare from a MK3 Golf as well.
  14. Keyo, who was it that refurbished your steering rack? Though I've never had an issue with mine, its currently out whilst I'm doing the subframe refurb and it'll be just my luck for it to go once back on where it's been on the bench dry so would prefer to get it done. Cheers mate
  15. Exhaust exits on the left side on LHD cars too. I think the Dalai Lama might know though! lol
  16. Haha, something like that! Keyo, honestly I've no idea, but wanted to get it for "completeness" anyway! I'd just use high tensile bolts in the same size for the rear bumper if I were you.
  17. I fear its going to slow down again Rob. I'm back to work on Monday but away during the week until March, so only really have the weekends so it'll be the odd hour here and there between family time.... No huge rush though as I don't plan on taking it out until late spring anyway.
  18. Engine support arrived on 27th so subframe is now off. I've removed everything from it including the PAS rack which I'll paint myself, though I am considering having it rebuilt. Has anyone done it themselves - is it difficult to strip down as surely its only the seals that need replacing? I've got the ARB off and have a BNOS one to go on, and the wishbones are off and luckily I had no issues with front captive nuts breaking off. They've obviously been off in the past as the rears were poly bushes so that may have helped, along with about a dozen goes on them with some plusgas over a 48 hour period. Most of my parts have arrived; ball joints, inner & outer CVs, track rods & ends, brake dust shields, rear bumper heat shield, front ABS sensors, brake hoses and various nuts & bolts. Had a lot of the parts from previously (hubs, bearings, bushes, clips etc), so all I really need to do now before I put it all back together is get the drive shafts, hub knuckles & subframe powdercoated, give the rest of the underside a good clean & patch repair a few bits of underseal, get the calipers refurbished (keep meaning to send them to Bigg Red so need to get round to that sharpish) and get all the brake lines made up. I have already made a lot of the lines in kunifer, but although I've done a pretty good job if I do say so myself!, I just don't thing I'll be completely happy unless they're perfectly formed as the radius's on mine just aren't close enough to original with the pipe bender I have. As volksworld13 is only a couple of hours from me, I will probably have him make me the set in the original green steel and go and pick them up. I'll post up some pics at some point as well. :thumbleft:
  19. Awful description and awful pics. Maybe message the seller for some more detailed pics but that's a lazy advertisment to be honest.
  20. Front MK3 Golf 288mm calipers & carriers, rear MK4 Golf calipers, and a full set of goodridge braided hoses including the rear beam flexis, which are brand new. The rear hoses are used but in good order, and the fronts look a little more used as the clear cover has yellowed a bit but are perfectly functional. Calipers are currently painted yellow, all move freely and are ready to fit straight away. Price is £100 + postage. I also have a good set of Jurid disks and pads for the front with tons of life left, which I'll include if they're collected or postage is paid fore these as they're obviously pretty heavy. I can send pics if required, just PM me and I'll send them via phone or email. Also advertised on CCGB Facebook page with photos. https://m.facebook.com/groups/746458145534377?view=permalink&id=1414055288774656 Collection from North Devon or I'm in Portsmouth between 6th - 24th Jan (Weekdays).
  21. If you want the bonnet sound insulation, you can't go wrong with the one that sprinter on here sells. Self adhesive and a fantastic replica of the OE stuff. Is it as good an insulator as the OE stuff, I'm not sure but I don't see why not.
  22. I put mine in a large industrial drum washer. Washed quite well though some of the grit stayed inside which needed hoovering when dry. No noticeable shrinking or anything on a 30 degree wash. I gave them a bit of a dry scrub after to loosen the pile as it felt a little stiff as well.
  23. Bugger, hope you get to the bottom of it Rob. If you remove all the carpet and sound deadening etc from the passenger side, dry it all out in there and blow some talc around to see if you can trace where it's coming in mate
  24. I am indeed mate. Gonna spend the day on it tomorrow too. :thumbleft:
