Anyone fitted any of these flashing LED door pins to their C? Quite fancied a pair with blue LEDs myself and wondered if they were easy to fit? Presumably they're powered/triggered from the central locking? Chris.
-
Thanks for all the advice chaps - I think I'll get it booked in for stat & housing change (I've recently been introduced to a couple of VW main dealer mechanics who do a spot of Saturday afternoon moonlighting in their own lock up - but can get genuine parts at trade and charge about a quarter of dealer labour charges!) I'll see if they can get access to vag-com too. Thanks, Chris.

You mean you think the temp gauge in the instrument cluster is knacked? The oil temp rises as the car is driven & stops somewhere between 90ish or higher depending on how "enthusiastically" I'm driving ;-) Chris.
-
I think my thermostats's gone - under normal driving, the water temp gauge hardly touches 70, but if the engine's left to idle, it gradually creeps up to 100 ish, and the electric fans cut in. If you then dricve off, it gradually makes its way down again! I seem to remember reading somewhere (here or on vwvortex?) that if you're going to replace the thermostat, it's a good idea to replace the housing too - is that right??? Also, do I attempt this myself (fairly competent mechanically!) or is it one of those PITA jobs if you've never done it before? Advice welcome, Chris.

Yep. I was quoted £33 for a VR6 cable just last week from my (un)friendly dealer :-( Dealer did ask for the chasis number tho' - maybe later cars are much different? Or is it the G60 or 16V cable that's the £15 one? Chris.

Have a look at Zelda's Clear SRs on ebay. - I've got a set of clear SRs on my C. See pic below :-) £5 + £2.25 p+p Bargain! This seller doesn't have any currently advertised on ebay, but they pop up regularly in Blue, clear & good old Orange. And they do sell the smoked Oval ones. Might be worth an email to "Zelda"! Try this link for some blue ones. Chris.

you can make a Golf Mk2 one fit with a lot of fiddling... see VW Vortex forum thread (quuite a long way down before they get on to Rain trays!) and, my favourite Japanese Corrado nuttter Oichan's rain tray mod  (Maybe someone can post a link to the Japanese Translator again, can't get access to it at work :( ) Chris.
-
Thanks for that - I'll try another dealer and see what they say, then throw that part no. at them! Cheers, Chris.

was trying to get an Oil Filter from the local VW stealer, and he reckoned there are two possible types, and they need to know the type that's currently on to get the right one? I'd already given him my chasis number (for Accel cable). Is that right, are the different types not interchangeable? :? :? :? Very Confused! Chris.
-
bit late I know, but look at Oichan's Corrado Blue LEDs mod - it's in Japanese :? but there are loads of excellent pictures, and you can just about work out what's going on. Or just look at the whole http://www.oichan.org website - loads of amazing Corrado stuff! Chris...

Rocco? Forgive my ignorance but what's a Rocco? Chris.

My Corrado's hiding under the pritt-stick... Chris.

very soon I'm going to have to replace all 4 tyres (ouch!) My local Costco are doing a special offer in Feb - £35 off a set of 4 Michelins. My question is: which Michelin range is best on a Corrado VR6 (std wheels)? Thanks in advance, Chris.
-
Just phoned to check on progress - the ABS sensor rings have only just come in so it's going in tomorrow to have the rear brakes sorted, including rear wheel bearings (thanks for the tip!). Can't wait much longer, I feel like I'm 10 again and waiting for Christmas Day! :x :D  :? 8) :D :D Chris.

Do they have the transponder chips fitted into them for the "passive immobiliser" system some C's have? Chris.

Just wanted to lose the VR6 badges as I'm paranoid already about having the car parked outside overnight (no garage U C). I live on a main road and I just know loads of prospective twocers could just be driving by or riding on the bus! If the Corrado rear badge was a stick on one that would go too, just to make the rear "cleaner". Quite like the VW badge on the front & rear. :D Thanks for the advice. Chris.
-
In an attempt to a. not attract so much unwanted attention from TWOCers, and b. to improve the stealth look  I'm thinking about de-badging my VR6. (when I get it, 2 days and counting...) Are the "Corrado" & "VR6" badges on the rear stick-on jobbies, or do they have pins that locate into holes in the bodywork? Also, I'm seriously thinking about replacing the front grille with a home made de-VR6-badged one (a la matey-matey.com, info here ... http://www.matey-matey.com/debadged_grille.shtml!), removing the VR6 badge, but leaving the central VW badge in place. What does the panel reckon? Chris.

Advice was very helpful thanks, I'd printed off the CCGB buying guide & the channel4 one too & taken them with me. It was useful in that the dealer knew (I think) that we were serious about the car, giving it such a thorough going over. He reckons he gets loads of punters who turn up, walk round the car once and then immediately want to test drive it. This car had the most history I've ever seen! A big blue ring binder with EVERY bill, receipt, old MOTs & Tax discs, going back over its whole life. Even credit card receipts (with the previous owners' details on D'oh!). Luckily (?) the ABS warning light came on as I was test-driving it, hence the wait til Wed before I can collect it. Also got the guy to replace the rear discs & pads into the bargain, as they were shot. Chris.
-
Saw it, drove it, haggled over it, BOUGHT IT! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Can't pick it up til next Wed/Thu though.... counting the seconds down til then...
-
D'oh - should've checked there! One thing I forgot to mention before - can anyone give me a quick guide on what the trip computer (is it the MFA?) should do? I seem to remember from somewhere that a dodgy one might be a sign of clocking??? Thanks, Chris.

Well, I'm off tomorrow to look at a Corrado VR6 with a view to buy - what are the Corrado specific things I should be looking out for? The car is '96 N Met Blue with black leather, 82,000 miles. Almost complete VW service History + receipts, 3 previous owners, all old MoTs and old HPI certificates from previous sales. The garage where it's for sale describe it as "mint" & "superb" & "perfect" etc, but they would, wouldn't they :? I should hopefully be going with a mate from work who was a mechanic in a previous life, so he's going to do the serious imechanical nspection, but I wondered if there's any specific quirks/foibles to look out for on a VR6 Corrado, never having owned one before :) I'm also not too hot on the 82k miles - what do you lot think about that sort of mileage on a '96 N ? (I've read the Parker's Price guide thing about the Corrado that vaguely says "look out for thrashed engines, worn brakes & suspension" etc - great help that!) Thanks in advance, Chris

couldn't stomach the red of the campaign  thanks for the advice, might widen the search to late VR6's as well. It's just that I'd lusted after a storm all those years ago. .. feel like I've got to get it out of my system! Chris
-
Thanks for the advice. Part of the justification to the financial controller (mrs.) is that it would be an "investment" so I'm prepared to spend some finding the right one. Watch this space...

Hi there everyone, just registered and thought I'd say hello! :D I'm currently Corrado-less, but looking to buy a Storm (which I think may be a lengthy process... ) I nearly bought one in 1996, but then babies happened, and ended up trading my beloved 205 GTi 1.9 for, wait for it, a Discovery Tdi! What was I thinking of? Family Tractor that's what! Anyway, some years later sanity has returned, and so I'm now looking for a nice tidy VR6 Storm. Part of this project (to raise cash for the insurance premiums!) is a mega ebay selling spree of any old junk(!) I can find, including an original VW Storm sales brochure from 1995 - if anyone's interested in collecting that sort of thing have a look on ebay, item no. 754061849 So, bye for now :-) Chris.
