  1. ...and another mesh grille on ebay
  2. If it's a whistle (like a hiss?) could be a vacuum leak. Is it coming from under the bonnet or inside the car (behind the dash?) Auxilliaries like water pump/power steering/alternator etc. tend to make rumbling/grinding type noises if they're on thier way out. (Bearings get noisy)
  3. When accelerating? You mean when booting it (i.e. WOT - wide open throttle) over 3800rpm?? If so it's normal and it's the infamous VR6 whistle! If not, then it's not. Water pump? Alternator? How do you know it's not the power steering pump?
  4. Sure I've seen some posters on here from Durham & Sunderland way?? Maybe one of our Nitrous/Supercharged VR6 friends??? If you look at the member list you can sort by location... click here and have a look....
  5. Or lots of links to other guides like the Corrado clubs of the US & Canada???
  6. But they're not really the people who made the car - they're just franchised to sell them. If they're any good they might have some decent mechanics who've done some VW courses (or at least read some VW manuals!!!) I think you should have the opportunity to send the car back to Karmann - they're the ones who should know!!! Always makes me wonder why people place such value on a full VW dealer service history when buying a car, but then slag off VW dealers at every other opportunity. Often the mechanics are paid so poorly that they have to work "foreigners" at weekends, booking out extra parts on paying customers services during the week! We should start a "Rate your local VW dealer" thread so people can gauge the worth of their FVWSHs. For starters - In my opinion Corkills Liverpool are a waste of time, space and money. Phew, I feel better already.
  7. ...well it started at about 50 and gradually got up to 104....
  8. just noticed that there's a loose strap (looks like a grounding strap) near the ECU that's only connected at one end (to the engine side bulkhead). Where should the other end go???
  9. lots of banter on the vortex forums about the "VR6 Whistle". I was quite disturbed when I first heard it on mine, sounds like a turbo! Quite normal it seems, but what causes it??? Air flowing in the throttle body? Probably all the ISV/ breather piping? Who knows? But G60jet's is errr, a G60. Don't they whistle by default???
  10. presumably the oil & water mixing caused by the head gasket failure upset the sensor in the expansion tank? Oilly Mayo gunk on it kept the light on???
  11. Thanks for the suggestions - just seen some on ebay - I'll see if I can cunningly fashion a new pair from the tons of junk I've got lying around in the cellar :)
  12. Dunno - they're made of the same plastic as the std corrado handles.
  13. Just seen your handle damage photos Majik :( commiserations mate. Don't think Passat rears would've helped :( Go for the flame-throwing side pipes :D
  14. Quick question - anyone know how to remove the JVC KS-FX463R head unit? Quite a recent model that the previous owner fitted to my C less than a year ago. The face comes off, then the plastic outside trim unclips to reveal two little channels in the middle of each vertical edge - presumably I need some sort of widget to proddle in there to release some clips?
  15. The way I look at it is that 1. It might deter the opportunistic theif if they're expecting to see a lock there - maybe I'm being a bit optimistic here but might confuse the low IQ of the ScumBag??? 2. It stops someone hammering a big screwdriver into the lock barrel and trying to force the lock. Agreed - it does absolutely nothing to deter someone putting a screwdriver through the door. But it looks nicer!!!
  16. Look earlier in the thread - Roddy said... plus with a little bit of tolerance in the electronics of the control module and you'll get either 45-ish mph (72 ish kmh), 57 ish mph (91 ish kmh) or 80ish mph (128 ish kmh)
  17. 1 on each side is better than none! Fancy away... but it'd be illegal to actually do it to your car if you did! which bit illegal? Non DoT/SAE/E marked lenses? Wonder if the Audi A4 route is legal if you can retain the E markings?
  18. Only way Mr Theif will know if works or not is to try it - and that leaves you with 1 knackered lock! I'd rather remove the lock as it might just be that little bit unexpected to make the Scumbag think twice. I'm of the opinion that if a car looks a bit too difficult/non-standard then Mr Average-Opportunist thief will look somewhere else. Granted if somebody wants to take your car then they will - no amount of immobilisers/locks/plates etc. will stop the professional. I've heard of cars parked on drives, with alarms/immobilisers/wheelclamps AND other cars parked behind them (as if that was some extra security!) being taken.
  19. Absolutely - that's why recently I had Pug 205 GTi 1 Corrado VR6 0 I had to let him go 'cos it just wasn't safe on the type of roads we were on Now imagine he's on the Pug Max Muppet forum saying "had a Corrado VR6 off the other day".... proves nothing. (That's my excuse & I'm sticking to it!) Also, the most embarrassing? Ford Orion 1 Corrado VR6 0      me just wheelspinning away in the wet from the lights and off he went.....
  20. Thanks, I'll check the Corrado badge pins & all the others + the number plate surround too as I know the previous owner had to replace all the rear badges after they were knicked. Just noticed a couple of drain holes in the underside of the tailgate that are supposed to drain outside of the seal - wonder why it's not draining there???
  21. since it's been raining for the last week solid, I thought I'd take a look at how my tailgate leak was doing - very nicely thanks - spare wheel well sloppy & horrible. :( But, seeing as there has been such a torrent into the car it's easier to see where it's coming from. It's coming through the tailgate somewhere, possibly wiper arm or spoiler actuators as it's dripping off the back trim panel in the tailgate when it's raised. got to climb in the back with the seats down, trim panel off & wait for the next big downpour - shouldn't be long...
