  1. Doing stuff twice always pi55es me off!!
  2. Get a late motor as the number of wires/plugs are different and the functionality isn't the same.
  3. Didn't know that mate but i didn't get any details from him so would struggle to give much info really :( Report it anyhow - you've covered your arse then as it is a legal requirement. Bad luck all round.
  4. Dark coloured (was dark - 1725hrs!) VR at Rochester's Cineworld carpark on non-standard rims. C12 * * * 8)
  5. Cheers Tom, so it's only attached by it's front to the block yes? Can the bolts be accessed without removing the driveshaft? I can see this going to Nick at Wrotham if it's that much of a pain!!!
  6. I've had a knocking from the front right of my 1.8 valver, I had the wheels off and all the brakes and suspension looked okay, I have found the driveshaft vib damper loose so that has been hacksawed off but to no avail. On looking further I've found the heatshield protecting the drivers inner cv joint (not heard of this heatshield before didn't know it existed!!) has become corroded/partially detached and has been rubbing on the gearbox output flange. I have used some garden wire to lift it as a temperary fix but I'm still getting a knocking sound with each revolution of the wheel but this could be the bottom of the shield being pulled up against the flange. It's bloody awkward to get to and I don't know how it's all attached. 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfGearbox flange heatshield 007 (Large).jpg[/attachment:1nbb78r0] Gearbox flange heatshield 009 (Large).jpg[/attachment:1nbb78r0] My questions are:- How is the heatshield attached? How easy/possible is it to replace it? Has anyone got any numbers for the heatshield or associated bits? What else could be making the noise???
  7. Sorted mate's Golf rear pads and then looked at changing my sticking throttle cable and found the lever at the top of the peddle wasn't in-line with the cable run, percussion adjustment carried out, sorted. 8) Then found the throttle butterfly is sticking when I was so sure it was the cable at fault from previous checks - wasted money there then. Got cold and dark so cleaning it tomorrow.
  8. mcjohnruther so you didn't read his admission????
  9. I bet you were cursing! Hope you sort it soon
  10. Did you check the bleed screw was closed before you tried to bleed the caliper?
  11. I guess so, although if you've already got the calipers and can get the hoses quick enough and have the time to fit them all they'd be better by all accounts.
  12. You'll need different hoses to fit the calipers.
  13. We're talking about lights assemblies not switches. You can fit late light/wiper stalks without changing the fog/indicator light assemblies, the dash switch will still work the fog lights!!! If you want the late interior hazard switch you'll need the late steering cowling yes.

  15. There's your answer!!!! Best I've had from my 1.8 valver is 48mpg on an 85 mile run 50:50 A-road/motorway trying not to exceed 50mph with a spacesaver on. Usually get 32-34mpg ish - less if no long runs
  16. Opened the boot to get tools to sort my wife's Polo lights and leaking rear wash pipe
  17. Sorry I can't be more use ol' boy!
  18. Can't really help you there - all I can say is they both look different to my early 1990 1.8 valver throttle body. climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfEarly 1.8 Throttle body 003 (Large).jpg[/attachment:3b854m93]Early 1.8 Throttle body 002 (Large).jpg[/attachment:3b854m93]2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfEarly 1.8 Throttle body 004 (Large).jpg[/attachment:3b854m93] Don't know about the Auto thingie but I guess it is a possibility, someone will know!
  19. Cheers for that. 8) It makes it much clearer and easy to compare, Now I can't a problem except P4 dips out a little
