  1. sounds interesting, what are these all about then? obviously the aim is to provide more security but where exactly do they go, how fitted etc?
  2. Mark, yes it'll be the cooler from what you are experiencing. They do fail internally and develop pin hole leaks into the water jacket. Since the oil pressure is higher than the water you just get some oil released into the cooling & not vice versa

    Strut Brace

bring the strut with u sunday & we can have a play
  5. Quizzed my stealer last sat. He says the strip comes as a single item i.e. the wide plastic bit with the rubber attached. Costs £48 +vat ea. Stock check indicated something in the order of about 10 only in the country if I remember rightly. Lets know what u get Dan.
  6. Ah yes, the micras. wonder wot the 6 would make of them? lol c u there
  7. jim, yes you can take this apart but getting the glass out is a bit tricky. You need to fabricate some broad (spreads the load) 'hooks' out of thin sheet metal - a 90 degree bend. Hook round the back of the mirror and apply gentle but firm pressure. The glass has a plastic frame glued on the back which clips into the drive mountings on the motor. The clips should let go & release the glass. There are 2 wires on the back of it for the heater element. You can then remove the motor assy & give a lube hth :salute:
  8. Phil, I changed the rear shocks on mine recently. The shock bottom fixing (on mine anyway) has a captive nut - i.e. its fixed on the trailing arm and the bolt just (ha ha) unscrews out of it. Give everything a good dose of wd40 & let soak in first. Supporting the trailing arm to take any weight of the bolt helps as well.
  9. Great to see acknowlegement of jobs well done - nice one pd-m. Chuck, have you got the bills? You should get the garage to fix both those probs for free since they caused 'em - give the mgr a hard time. What about a naming & shaming thread?

    Bucking Broncho 16V

chuck, had this problem with my 16v. first thing is to make sure there is no air in the clutch master cyl system - it gets its fulid from the brake master cyl & if the level in there gets low the clutch can sometimes pick up air - even if the brakes level is good now there may still be air in the clutch line. If it still misbehaves after that then its probably the clutch master cyl - they do get tired and changing mine fixed the problem. I also sometimes suffer selection probs on reverse & first but vag said everything is ok - so I just touch 2nd to slow the shaft before selecting either which usually does the trick
  11. OK guys, saw these on endor71's tidy motor last sunday and they do look good. So just been talking to my stealer and he reckons they suffer from lift off at speed on the Lupo  According to him thats about 50mph upwards which ain't gonna impress me on the c coz it only goes slower than that in town; tho' to be fair to him he doesn't know anyone who's done the mod yet. So before I part with any cash thought I'd ask whether the c suffers from this problem, or are they the biz?

    Strut Brace

endor71, Hi Chris, G60Jet's first & last pix show the ABS cable attachment point on the RH top mount. Since you don't have abs you can take the studs off, thou' as he suggests use that point for one of the strut fixings. I'll probably be up at Pod on sunday with the VR so you can have a butchers at 'em then if u want
  13. Jim, sorry to hear it had to go, but start saving now & keep the dream alive coz the VR is, imo, "Mmmmmmm nice"
  14. endor71, nice to meet u too. nice pix, shame about the dirt that's why I was soooo slow - but probly my lack of skill as was 1st attempt but lol. So what did my bog standard 16V achieve? 8 runs. times: best 17.570s, worst 18.750s; topped out at: best 79.51mph, worst 74.70mph - just got in ahead of the shopping trolley :D wasn't planning on going again till the 16th, but since there's a clash on might have to bring the VR along for a laugh....
  15. Could these be the caliper retainers? I know VW recommend replacing these with new if you take em off, they are pre-loctited (how do you spell that?)
  16. bloody hell. as u say they're pretty hard to break. have no spares myself but hope u get sorted pdq. This sort of thing needs a "flash" post sad for sunday. by the by I see u are now a CCGB host - well done m8
