  1. ardandy, we've all seen the gayfight smiley now, at least be original and post the supergay flag smiley or the mincer one. Yeah it had the suspension changes and the ESP fitted, dealer said to the guy who owned it before me the spoiler made sod all difference and he prefered the look without. I'm not sure. I've tried to give a fair comparison to the VR6 above, am keeping it for at least a month too so will do a details back-back test at some point. Like I said above, some things are good about it, some areas it falls down, but overall it's a nice car. :)
  2. Sure. :) Looks like this at the moment: http://www.sp30.co.uk/files/img_0001_172.jpg No rear spoiler, in two minds whether to fit one or not, no longer free. :( http://www.sp30.co.uk/files/img_0004_197.jpg With the VR6. http://www.sp30.co.uk/files/img_0005_191.jpg Haven't got any tyres for the 18s yet but this gives you an idea:
  3. You're right about the steering guys, I've still got my VR so I've been driving them back to back and the VR steering is way better. The TTs steering doesn't weight up at all with corner load, so you have no idea what the front wheels are doing until they actually let go. It has LOADS of grip with the big tyres and 4WD, maybe that's part of the problem, but it's certainly very hard (for me) to feel where the limit is compared to the VR6. What it does do well is make going fast very easy. Feels very 'planted' and safe, rides bumps well, and you never feel like you're about to crash. With very little effort you can get from A->B as fast as a VR6 driver who is trying, you just won't be having as much fun. I dunno which I prefer really, VR6 certainly has more charm, the noise alone is almost enough to make me keep it over the TT, but I like the solid feel, nice interior, climate control and effortless drive of the TT as well. Oh and I gotta admit I like the fact that despite their commoness the ladies still seem to love the TT, they may try and deny it, but every woman is impressed by a flashy car. I was just lucky, bought it off a guy at work for what the dealer offered him trade in against a new mini. He said he just couldn't be arsed to advertise it, fine by me as the same car seems to go for near 10k on autotrader. :D You're right about the wheels, has 17s on at the moment, look OK but not a patch on the RS4s. Bought a set yesterday just need to save up for tyres now, never bought 18s before, was a bit shocked at the price.
  4. Bought it. £399+VAT later and it's 265bhp. How easy is that? Do miss the noise of the VR though. How much is a '94 VR6 in Ice Grey Violet, 135k but with recently fitted Koni TA kit and FVWSH, and 12months MOT worth? :(
  5. Knew that was coming. That's the main thing putting me off the car, will i be able to cope with the constant gay jokes...saying that, no one can deny the ladies like them. :-P It's a RHD UK car in silver. Going to go and have a look at it tomorrow. Would be greedy keeping the VR6 as well wouldn't it?
  6. I can't believe I'm contemplating it, after the torrent of jokes about gay hairdressers I've dished out myself in the past, but a bloke I know at work offered me his V-plate 225 TT for £7.5k and I'm really tempted. Seems a stupidly good price! The only downsides isit's done 100k on the original clutch so it's inevitably going to need a new one fairly soon. Other than that it has full audi service history and not a single mark on the body. Does this sound cheap to anyone else? :? Has anyone driven a 225TT? I've got a VR6 at the moment which is awesome, am I going to be dissapointed with the drive/power? I know for sure I'll miss the VR6 engine noise!
  7. I get about 340 to a tank too, works out an average of 25mpg-ish, pretty shit. Wish mine did 40MPG!
  8. Both excellent pads mate, I'd go with whichever are cheaper.
  9. Ahh got them too, cheers! I'll stop hijacking peoples threads now. ;)
  10. Cheers for the reassurance Kev. :) Let me just check, 288s are a straight swap with the standard brakes, nothing more required than discs, calipers, carriers and pads?
  11. Oh I'm fine with the long initial travel, infact I prefer it! Borrowed my mates VTS for Oulton on friday and the weak but instant bite was pissing me right off! Was just worried it would be even longer than it is now. Cheers. :)
  12. Is this problem evident with 288mm brakes as well? I'm about to fit a set, any other tips? Don't want to end up with worse brakes than I have now! :?
  13. I'm going to say something controversial......uprated headlight loom. After everyone raved about how much difference they make, I was expecting so much more. I can honestly say the lights are no more than 10% brighter and if I'd known that before I wouldn't have spent the money, no way worth the 50 odd quid I paid*, especially as the original clip fittings are so much more secure fitting than spade connectors. *not disputing that the loom is well made or not worth £50, I just feel the improvement is not worth £50, I personally think a set of higher wattage bulbs makes much more difference.

    dipstick?

53cm from the tip to the plastic handle. :)
  15. Touchy chap aren't ya. Sorry for the dig, was the beer talking. ;)
  16. Sorry had had a few beers, wasn't meant as an attack. Really I just meant most people don't have a MIG lying around. ;) Don't know what the guy above is on about with "if the bolts aren't rounded", they're made round from the factory! 8mm allen head carrier bolts are the ones I thought we were talking about too....
  17. Another useful post. http://etka.auto2.ru/vw/COR/1994/76/

    dipstick?

I'll measure my 94 VR6's dipstick tomorrow if that helps. ;)
  19. You welded a nut onto the carrieer bolts!? Touch excessive. :? Blowtorch works a treat, who cares how, just give it a quick flam and hammer a socket on the back, works a treat.
  20. Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I was just looking around VR6OC and noticed this thread. Thank god I didn't hand over any cash is all I can say! http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum ... .php?90466
  21. I replaced the tired 130k suspension with a Koni kit (shocks and springs) on mine, personally I think the car looks much better for the drop, but I also think the ride on the road was better with the standard suspension. On the track there is no competition, the masses of understeer is gone, and the car doesn't look like it's going to tip over anymore! It's just on bumpy country roads when makeing 'good' progress, it can get a little skippy and wayward. I'd say stick with standard suspension if you don't mind the looks and value the silky smooth ride of the VR. I'd be pretty confident the GSF kit is the same quality, a lot of the stuff they sell is actually produced by the same people as the genuine VW stuff. My 2p. ;)
  22. Good guide, look forwards to reading the painting section. They look far better! 8) One question, what colour do the indicators light up once you've sprayed them? Redy-orange?
  23. VR6 is quicker in standard guise I think, I've run a 14.9 1/4 in my standard VR if that helps. (at Santa Pod, not downhill York Dragway)
  24. Yes that's what I meant, just worded it badly. You can still take it for another test it's just very unlikely to pass (unless you've fixed the problems of course). However, I had a 'new style' MOT failure on my VR for "cracked brake disks", took it around the corner and they passed it, this was because the first garage was speaking bollocks. I had to appeal to VOSA and have the car inspected to get my fee back though....which I did. Have it VW Motorworld. IMO it's a good thing, I'm not bothered about getting a dodgy MOT, and think the roads will be safer with less cars that have just been passed without testing on the road. The convenience of being able to buy tax online is more important to me.
