why does it hiss unless there is a leak? Can i test it buy spraying it with carb cleaner?

Hello everyone I have found a small leak in the vacuum hose just above the ISV. Well it isn't the hose it is the big pod type thing that the other hosees go into. What is the best way to go about fixing this Or is it a case of it is knackered and i new to buy a new one?? Also what does the vacuum hose do?? :oops: Cheers BTW i just got my head done on my vr: had it skimmed valves done for 200quid!!! 8)

Does havin slotted disks make a lot of differace I am looking at buying the Pagid pad and i didn't know weather it was worth the extra money?

I have used the green stuff pads but found that they started to make the disks crack! I also found that when they were cold they were a bit crap until you got them warmed up they were great.

Hi my head gasket has just gone. I am having it done but i just wanted to check what else whould be done like the valves and stuff? I dont know much about this sort of things so can you please give me as much info as possible. Could you tell me fings like what differance just lapping the valve seats in will make to having them cut? Cheers Dan

I seem to be using a lot of water! There are no puddles on the floor I am assuming that it is the head gasket! There is also a oil leak coming from the back of the head. Can you please give me some advice on what else needs to be done when the head is off and how much the parts will cost? Also what can be done to give it a little more power? I have a mate that said he would do the head gasket for 100 quid so i think it needs to be done soon Cheers Dan

To change the coil pack am i right in thinking that it is just a case of: 1. removing the leads from the coil pack 2. removing the 4 cap screws holding the coil pack to the head 3. swap them over. Is there some sort of gasket or joint behind the coil pack? If someone cold get back to me sharpish because i want to do this tommorow during lunch. Who need a sandwich anyway!!!! :wink:

could you just swap the seal on the new one for the old one?

I am not sure i can really feel it through the accelerator pedal and it only does it when the engin is in gear! I did think that it could be the cv joint. But it doesn't tend to do it when i am going round corners. It is totaly an intermitant problem. Do you think it is alright to use it still?

I have heard a knock / jerking coming from the front osof my 93 vr. It seems to happen when i accelerate when i already moving at around 2500revs! It really doesn't sound healthy so i dont really want to drive it at all till it is sorted! To top things off it is running lumpy too! I changed the ht leads today but i don't have that thingy to do the plugs yet . I have tryed to get it into regal which is my local VW spec garage but there is a big wait! Can anyone please help I am just starting to get P1ssed off now and am thinking of getting rid of it!!

Hi guys i started my car to come home from work today it sounded ok, then when i pulled out from the carpark it seemed to vibrate even more so at low revs in a higher gear!!! At first i thought that it might be misfireing cos i had the 3 rear leads off at the weekend to do the isv and i don't have the tool for putting them back on! But then when i was closer to home i noticed that when i accelorated i could hear knock from the front o/s. any ideas? :roll:

Oh Dear the first think i would do is have the wheel off and have a look then decide what to do. I wouldn't drive it till i had fond out what the problem is!

All you can do is strip it down and have a look! Check to see what the threads look like (are they rusty, greased, etc) You should be able to tell if that area has been tuched by the mechanic!

That is pritty cheap for what it is! I think i am going to have to make another purchase for my vr! :D

Have you tried draining the water form the fuel? I t might be worth changing the fuel filter and glow plugs as well. I have had problems on my old cars if i let the fuel get too low!

What about on a vr6 then? Is that still the best plan? Does a k&n panel filter make that much differance?
