davidwort 0 Posted January 13, 2005 Looks 8) Always good to see another valver pushing out respectable power. Just seen your sig and the lightened flywheel, what sort of difference does that make on the valver? Both Bally and I are interested in this mod but don't want to make the revs drop to badly on changes etc... ta, David.
corradophil 3 Posted January 13, 2005 The revs do drop a little quicker between changes, but not enough to cause me any concern. You can notice a difference accelerating particularly in 1st, and a bit in 2nd, after that not much different to std. Mine is a machined std one from Race Power Motorsport on Dartford. IIRC £80 + my original. Its worth doing, but I'd only do it if I had the gearbox off for another job.

davidwort 0 Posted January 13, 2006 went out in his car at the stealth rolling road.. such a smooth car.. got to get my sorted now!! Car's still going great, the more miles I put on, the looser the engine gets and the revvier it feels, around the 20,000 mile mark now. I do a few miles of the M1 each day and it's great for motorway driving now, it sits just at the bottom of the peak part of the torque band at 80 which means it pulls really strongly when you floor it. I've still yet to get it below 30mpg on a full tank of fuel, even with giving it some real stick, it seems to love Tesco 99. Had a very surprised BMW 630 convertible on a quiet early morning just after Christmas, came up behind him on the M1 so he started to accelerate away, just sat on his tail till 140+ on my speedo and he finally pulled over to let me past :) I've added the Stealth tune up plots from 2005 at the top. corradophil 3 Posted January 13, 2006 That's certainly impressive, makes me wonder how much mine is being held back by the KE-Motronic and wether a re map to suit my engine spec would be a good idea.
RobyD 0 Posted January 13, 2006 I've been in this car too a while back and was really impressed with how well it pulled all through the rev range, quite refreshing after my standard 1.8 valver. Its also very tidy, interiors mint with no rattles and so solid. Very nice motor dave :)
davidwort 0 Posted November 1, 2008 Right, after new ball joints, bushes, steering column, track rods etc etc, the last thing I've been meaning to look at is the front bearings. These have been on since it left the factory in 1990 and have covered 160K miles in 18 years! After the trip to the ring this autumn it became clear a bit of noise was developing so after ordering a couple of new VAG bearings today I whipped off the front hubs: climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfhubs.jpg[/attachment:25t7rxam] both of them roar like a goodun and one has feel-able play hardly surprising given the age, I'm just surprised they didn't make more noise when driving! The outer CV boots have been advises on the past 3 MOT's :) Thought I might as well do these with the hubs off, but they're amazingly still serviceable, just perishing between each fold 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfboot.jpg[/attachment:25t7rxam] Taken the off-side cv joint apart and it's in pretty good nick, no grooves worn by the bearings, just a bit polished, feels perfectly smooth, below is the inner part of the cv, you can just see the polished wear mark from the ball bearings, will thoroughly clean and re-pack with cv grease- yuck. cv-inner.jpg[/attachment:25t7rxam]

davidwort 0 Posted May 23, 2009 I reckon he's still trying to get the first carrier bolt out without Irwins :D you cheeky bugger! well I've done one side without Irwins, taking my time as I've been sunning myself a bit today too, in fact I must have put a bit of copper slip or something on the bolts as they came undone a treat, shock, horror. but funny you should say that because Amazon have a set of Irwins delivered for under a tenner at the moment, I was almost tempted. Anyway, took loads of pics on my new camera so you might be in for an incredibly dull and detailed how-to tomorrow  Also, for your amusement, I fitted another header tank today, and guess what, non-VW, this one came from GSF  I was down there anyway so thought I'd have a look at thier Corrado/mk3 pattern tanks and surprisingly they looked pretty good, anyway for 8 quid (good old CCGB discount) it's fitted and looks the part, even watertight
Toad 0 Posted May 23, 2009 It's nice when it all just undoes isn't it? I've not long returned home with a trailer load of parts for my VR. :) I've had a GSF header tank in my valver for about 4 years, it's been pretty good really...
davidwort 0 Posted May 24, 2009 was lovely and warm, pic from the garage as I contemplated doing some work: corrado_and_golf_may_09.jpg[/attachment:2pci6c27] Taken my time but my grotty old disks and wobbly bearings have gone, everything's had a cleanup so the pads move freely in the carriers etc. here's what I did: Book1.pdfbrakes_2.jpg[/attachment:2pci6c27] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfbrakes_3.jpg[/attachment:2pci6c27] ETKA Corrado.pdfbrakes_4.jpg[/attachment:2pci6c27] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfbrakes_5.jpg[/attachment:2pci6c27] Corrado92.pdfbrakes_6.jpg[/attachment:2pci6c27] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfbrakes_7.jpg[/attachment:2pci6c27] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfbrakes_8.jpg[/attachment:2pci6c27] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfbrakes_10.jpg[/attachment:2pci6c27]

Jim 2 Posted May 24, 2009 Super write up mate. Rear discs are overdue on mine so might well tackle this with your write up as a guide :)
davidwort 0 Posted May 24, 2009 and a new header tank, the FEBI one from AVS was absolute shyte, popped down to GSF and for 8 quid (with a CCGB discount) their pattern one (unnamed) equivalent to mk3 part no. 1H0 121 407A was spot on, so I never went for a genuine VW one in the end  tank_2.jpg[/attachment:wjqeu0vc]
