Henny 0 Posted March 26, 2009 I've lost count of the number of people that have asked me "is that an old Scirocco on your drive mate? Looks lovely and in great nick for it's age..." over the last few months since the new 'rocco was released... :brickwall: They seem a little confused when I tell them it's a heavily modified Corrado, not a Scirocco... I guess the only answer is to get it back on the road and get it seen a little more... ;)

Mr Sands 0 Posted April 6, 2009 Had quite a few chufties lately, the champion one being on pulling up to pay my fiver to a member of the local rotary club to park in an office car park on Saturday to go and watch the Warriors play. As I pulled in and lowered the window the mature gent was already smiling and looking the dub over. He said "Well, you've very good taste in cars anyway...five pounds and the gate closes at six. If you're not back I'll happily take the car...it's lovely!". What with that and Worcester staying up, it was a good old afternoon and I got a little worse for wear celebrating it all... Rinse 0 Posted April 7, 2009 Been pulled over twice by the Rozzers(Just for checks, no law breaking...), both times one of the two mentioned something about it. First time one was saying how it was a good job I saved it from being scrapped and that he always wanted one himself. The 2nd one said he used to own a scirocco and wanted a VR Rad. He then started asking me questions about if the spoiler works and if its still pulling as it should at 149k miles.
revox 0 Posted April 8, 2009 Had a few lately... Petrol station - copper getting into his car - "that takes me back, used to have a scirocco, always liked them tho..." Another petrol station - "you dont see many of them anymore, looks in great shape mate....it's not for sale is it?!" Then the best one yesterday... On a dual carriageway in the pissing rain, a guy on a racing quad...!!.....pulled up beside me and pointed at my car and gave me the thumbs up! Well chuffed! h
Mr Sands 0 Posted April 12, 2009 Best chuftie I've had in ages lately. Always wash the car round at the parents as they have a bigger drive and a more convenient hose point :norty: but I usually clean the windows and black the tires back round at mine. So pull into the parking bit by the garage and next door's lad and his cousin (both about seven years old) are playing football in the space :nono: They do then redeem themselves by eyeing over the motor and as I proceed to dress the tires, the cousin says "Wow - you even polish your tyres! Do you have lots of girlfriends?". Amused I reply "I have one, yes.". He says "Did you get her because of the car?". :D I tried to make out I had other winning qualities too...I think that the lad still thinks it's just the Dub... Wullie 1 Posted April 14, 2009 Went down to the printers today to return some proofs. When I came out there were three young guys in a modded Nova with what looked like an oil drum for a tailpipe looking at the C. Got the usual how fast is it, what’s the 0 to 60 blah blah and asked to demonstrate the spoiler going up and down. Was just about to leave when one said to the others, “What’s that auld bas**ard doin wi a car like that, whit a waste of a motor.” Sad to say I spun the wheels out of the car park and onto the road. Don’t know if it was a chuftie or an insult.
borarob 0 Posted April 22, 2009 had a few chufties since having the C (about 12 months now), but had some great ones since getting the new rims. couple of weeks back, was getting out of my car in a supermarket car park and a guy walked past and called over 'thats a nice car you got there mate, smart wheels' and then today, this put a big smile on my face. pulled up atsome lights and I hear someone shouting 'Sell me your Corrado' I looked over and it was aguy parked across the road inhis focus climbing out his window waving his arms and shouting over at me. I just smiled, the lights changed and off i went! even better was the fact that a few cars in front was a very nice looking black M3 convertible with some very faancy rims on that was completely ignored :D
8vMatt 1 Posted May 11, 2009 Hi all, Had my VR less than a week and a little kid said he much preferred my car to the neighbours Focus ST which prob cost the best part of £15k! You could say I was pleased, had lots of good comments. Had a thumbs up from a 09 Rocco driver.
wazza 0 Posted May 11, 2009 Had a good one at my local VW dealer at the weekend: Ordering some parts - "what car is it for" "a Corrado VR6" "Oh some people do still drive real cars then"...
LisaK 0 Posted June 14, 2009 I went out last night and thought I'd drive through Southend seafront to see what barry cars were around as Sat night is "boy racer night". The traffic was stop start the whole way and every group of people I slowly drove by said something about the G and/or me; One bloke said "RAAAAAAR" at the car from a distance and then as I drove by he shouted "I LOVE YOUUUUUU" Another bloke in another group said "wow, thats a nice example.... bloody hell, a bird driving!" And the other one I could remember "sounds like there's something meaty under the bonnet" I had a grin on my face for ages but it also made me feel really guilty about wanting to sell up :(
FenderSi 0 Posted June 18, 2009 I'm new to owning a Corrado, but having read this thread before hand I can now understand it a bit better - in the first two days I had the car outside the front of the house (obviously giving her a full clean, right down to a toothbrush in the harder to reach places) I had at least 10 people stop and take a proper look, a few even came up the drive to ask me about it! Noticeably the ones who actually stopped to ask were all between 35-60, but still I think this gives me the right to wear my Chufties Badge?
Mr Sands 0 Posted June 19, 2009 I'm new to owning a Corrado, but having read this thread before hand I can now understand it a bit better - in the first two days I had the car outside the front of the house (obviously giving her a full clean, right down to a toothbrush in the harder to reach places) I had at least 10 people stop and take a proper look, a few even came up the drive to ask me about it! Noticeably the ones who actually stopped to ask were all between 35-60, but still I think this gives me the right to wear my Chufties Badge? Definitely! When contemplating whether to replace a dead Corrado with another one, I thought of how many other cars can elicit that response of "Wow" without the attendant jealousy of "But owning one makes you a prick". Not that many - the chufties are genuine and warm with the Corrado and to be treasured.
scarlet_vr6 0 Posted June 20, 2009 was out cleaning my C last night for the CCGB Nat Day today and a guy came over and said 'they're really nice cars, I've always wanted a....' and was expecting Scirocco/Calibra/Cordoba/Corolla (see 'what has your C been mistaken for' thread  ) but he got it right! We ended up chatting about rados for about 20 mins and he said he was even more determined to buy one now. It's great when people come over and just say 'hi, what a nice car you have'. Made my day 8)
TheWizardofOdds 0 Posted June 22, 2009 Ahhh! chuftie by proxy, my favourite! My missus came back from a supermarket stress trip tonight in the Corrado and informed me that a geezer in a Golf with bodykit (that's as much as I got) was flashing her. Her words. He loved my "really old" wheels, and was "excited". Now I'm worried. Why is it that you're Corrado always looks like schit when someone stops you to appreciate it? Mine has serious issues at the moment, and most of them involve throwing money I'll never see again at it. I'm now into year 5 of owning my Corrado and the honeymoon period has well and truly come and gone, but every now and then it earns it's keep... Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted July 1, 2009 My MOT man said it was great to see old "Proper" cars on the road these days and that I should keep it "just to keep the green people angry!"
big ben 10 Posted July 1, 2009 my next door neighbour owns a 09 alfa spyder, and says my rado is better, and he would swap it in a heartbeat if it was reliable enough haha... pretty stupid guy as it costs him over 700 quid a service :cuckoo: think he needs a kick up the arse!! vr6-phil 0 Posted July 3, 2009 I had a chap compliment my motor in a car park who then proceeded to tell me all about his motoring history (Mk2 and Mk4 Golfs) trying to cover up the fact that he was at that moment in time about to get into a Peugeot 106 (which was his sisters by the way!!). Seemed a nice chap and said he liked the fact that I hadn't made it "too bling" by putting "shiny bits" on it! It was an interesting 15 minutes I have to say! Critical_Mass 10 Posted July 13, 2009 I was parked outside my gf's work waiting for her to come out. When the security guy came to have a word, i assumed he was going to ask me to move. But he said 'I used to have one of these', he then took a few steps back and said 'Those lines still look good' 8). He was an older guy and went on to say he used to have a VR6 and before that had a valver. :D I asked him what made him sell the VR and all he said was 'Finances' There was no need to say anymore.
