swiftkid 1 Posted February 27, 2012 Nice, what have you gone for? Gotta say I absolutely love the car, it has a real presence and sits excellent! Some very nice touches to it
Riley 0 Posted March 7, 2012 Thanks mate, appreciate that:thumbleft: I'll update on the suspension as soon as it arrives as I'm unsure if I've got the right type yet :-( Have dropped the Borbets off at The Wheel Specialist - Manchester for a full refurb. Yep, decided NOT to do something myself on the car for once! Getting rid of the original diamond cut/lacquered dishes and going for bare polished. Keeping the centers gloss black. Not cheap, but we shall see how they turn out, if they do turn out to be a sh1t hot job then it's worth the money to me. They actually thought the wheels looked ok as they are lol, but they just don't look new anymore after I let them go a bit.
junkie 0 Posted March 9, 2012 Yay glad you have it still Neil.
Riley 0 Posted May 23, 2012 (edited) Well, not pleased as my beautiful Borbets have basically been ruined by TWS at Manchester. Quick run down... ONE of the wheels had a very slight mark on the rim where I ran over something in the road, there was a small amount of lacquer lifted on two of them. They were to fit my new tyres, polish the dishes and coat the centers black. They actually told me that the wheels were very nice to start with and I'd done a good job painting the centers black. Despite this they told me that the edge between paint/dish would be better than I'd done, I thought this sounded impressive because I spent literally a week just masking them up! Here's a reminder of the finish I got on them... So anyway...TWS said they would polish the dishes and powder coat the centers gloss black for me. To cut a long story short, around 3 weeks later they called me to say they couldn't do them and I needed to go and have a chat. They said they couldn't get the edge right between center/dish and they weren't wrong. So after having a think and feeling pretty miffed (I had my heart set on polished dishes rather than diamond cut) they told me they could strip them again, polish the dishes and let somebody else paint them (Not powder coat) So another 2 weeks! later I picked them up...No tyres fitted! They told me they couldn't fit them as they wouldn't seal against the blasted/bare finish...So now I'm left with useless wheels, my fave wheels of all time ruined! And that's not all, they did actually coat my center caps, but they no longer fit the bloody wheels there's that much run/overhang of powder coat and lacquer on them! odub 0 Posted May 23, 2012 Not good at all! Have you got any compensation?
j_s14a 0 Posted May 23, 2012 After having a similar experience with a very renowned company, I would seriously recommend getting in touch with this company: http://www.speedwells.co.uk/ The chap who runs it is called Ibrar and he's a perfectionist. Much cheaper than the other company I used (I initially paid £600 for a full refurb, but they were 3 peice 19" wheels and I had new bolts fitted all round)
Tigerfish 10 Posted May 23, 2012 ..No tyres fitted! They told me they couldn't fit them as they wouldn't seal against the blasted/bare finish. I would at least make them powder coat the tyre mount surfaces so that tyres can still be mounted. At least some compensation for the major **** up they have made. Riley 0 Posted May 24, 2012 Not good at all! Have you got any compensation? Nope. This actually cost me £400 quid. :-( They initially still wanted the £600 for the job! I wasn't really in the mood for sorting things too much other than getting the price down, having a few problems at the moment and just lost my Auntie. Visiting a local place tomorrow who refinish Porsche cookie cutters etc, hopefully they can help. Thanks for the suggestions etc, pretty miffed really that my fave wheels of all time have ended up unusable! :-(
Riley 0 Posted May 29, 2012 (edited) New wheels at least until I get the Borbet A sorted out anyway. 9x16 Borbet B. 215/40 tyres. Also fitted my spare flat center caps from my silver Borbet A's, it's a shame they don't quite fit the B's correctly (Too big in diameter) as they look good I think. Sam.l 0 Posted May 29, 2012 Ive always wanted a set of Borbet B's! awesome wheels. Should you ever sell up...;-) Real shame to hear about the f**k up they have made of you A's. Hope you manage to sort it out.
Riley 0 Posted May 29, 2012 Me too cheers mate, gutted about them! :-(
northG60 0 Posted May 29, 2012 Followed this thread for a while now and its one of the reasons why i got my G60 in 2010 .... love the interior keep it up buddy
Riley 0 Posted May 29, 2012 (edited) Wow, thanks for the kind words mate! It's nowt special by any means but for some reason the Corrado bug is still strong damn it! lol. Just looking, and can't believe this thread started way back on 2nd February 2005! Borbet A Flat centers VS Borbet A Nut centers. Riley 0 Posted May 31, 2012 (edited) A few boxes! Edited May 31, 2012 by Riley
Riley 0 Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) So the new suspension, which I have genuine (Non scene/showy! reasons for!) Where I live has become speed bump city :-( and I'm tired of having to drive a mile to literally get around the corner. Also I can't get the car on the drive at my new place. And lastly, I'm sick of spending money on coilovers that simply don't last on our great British roads! It's a slow burner because I rarely get any free time with work. But at least it should hopefully turn out ok. Have spent a lot of time struggling to come up with a way to mount everything. The plan is to: Keep the spare wheel space usable. Mount everything with as low a center of gravity as possible. Keep everything easy to get at to maintain it. Keep as much boot space as possible. Make it look sort of plain/not too showy but yet decent enough? lol. Anyway, here's all the toys! Ill apologise in advance for all the pics... Accuair E-Level management with 'ride height on start' function, individual controls of each corner, 3 preset/adjustable ride heights, RideMonitor™ mode adjusts as needed while driving or parked which basically means if you throw a load of mates in the car the height is maintained. 4X Corner level sensors. Touchpad with adjustable/auto dimming and warning system. Air lift struts. 5gallon air tank Accuair ECU and touchpad with lead. Accuair wiring kit, and one of the corner level sensors. The touchpad is seriously nice, superb quality! Water trap and fittings. Accuair power supply kit. Can see the digital gauge I also bought here. Accuair VU4 Manifold. Viair 444c Compressor. That's all the kit, but I also picked up a VDO pressure gauge too for the dash, love my VDO's! Onto the build! I was having real problems with the skinny 5gallon tank, tried various ways but just wasn't happy with it. So I picked up a chubby 5gallon to replace it. Can see an early template here too. Shame that I got sent the totally wrong tank, it doesn't have a damn drain port and they have done NOTHING to sort this out. But anyway... Always start with cardboard lol! Then cut out some wood. And cut out some more! Test fitting...again, and again and again... Neil. Edited June 2, 2012 by Riley
Riley 0 Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) And that's all I've managed so far...I'll try and update when I can. Neil. Edited June 2, 2012 by Riley
Sam.l 0 Posted June 2, 2012 This is awesome! Havenbeen dying for air on my car for the same reasons really, rubbish roads, tired of going the long way round, and a bit because it's cool as :-) really interested in how this comes along. That's some good kit there, if you don't mind me asking how much was it in the end and where did you source everything?
Riley 0 Posted June 2, 2012 Sounds like you have the same issues as me, bloody annoying especially as it's a company car doing lots of journeys around town. Passing th same roads numerous times in one day gets tiring when you could go a much easier route! And I don't mind at all mate:thumbleft: In all it's cost around £4k all in, including delivery and import tax (£400) but then I've had to buy lots of little extra's, the fittings are a nightmare to source over here, impossible in fact. So that can be hard work. I bought it all from one of the first to be found on google, I'd rather not recommend them as they have made a couple of mistakes that they haven't been very helpful to resolve. Little more progress managed...Compressor box made. Still unsure on how to mount the VU4 manifold and the Management. Then I got a better seal on the compressor area, made a lip that runs around the edge so a back panel will close up against it. Still need to finish this off. The wiring also runs behind it's own connector through a little plug I made. And it clears at the back! And I suppose it looks kind of ok from the front... PS: I know it all looks a little wobbly/uneven in places, some of it is because the front panel isn't fixed yet (It straightens things up) and some I need to run over with the file to tidy edges up etc. Neil. Riley 0 Posted June 3, 2012 Again, just a little progress, but it feels like I'm getting there now with starting on the wiring etc. Picked up these two digi gauges, voltage for the management. And a temp gauge that has a little sensor wire which I'm gonna sit in the compressor compartment. Made two lids, the flat one and an angled one, both removable. Front pic... Pic from behind. Need to see if I can sit the sensors upwards yet... And front shots with the digi gauges, still need to fit my tank pressure gauge yet. Above the tank. Picked up some of these... Fit them into the inner of the compressor box...Pic of the rear. Et voila...
northG60 0 Posted June 3, 2012 love the wheels mate theyre8) and holy crap..... some serious effort and money into the suspension setup hats off to you sir !!!
Riley 0 Posted June 3, 2012 Thanks mate. I prefer the Borbet A's meself, so I'll hopefully find someone capable of getting them right or I'll try and do them myself again if I can find the time. Suspension wise I figured I'm stuck with this bloody CorradNo forever lol so thought sod it, give this air ride business a go and at least let me drive on the roads I need to, and get on the drive! Neil.
dragon green 5 Posted June 3, 2012 Really impressive work going into the air ride suspension, i hope the ride quality when finished, reflects all your hard work !
Riley 0 Posted June 3, 2012 I bloody hope so too lol! I did plenty of research before deciding on the e-level and airlift struts, considered HPS which look VERY nice, but they just haven't got a proven track record like airlift have as yet. And reliability/build quality is something I really wanted to be sure about. PS: If this all reads a little funny it's because I've already got a fair way ahead so I'm copying/pasting most of it, apologies. Got a cool little idea for a handle on the compressor compartment, may not work yet but I'll give it a try. Just another small update really, been really busy and my Dad also got threatened/assaulted so I had to 'sort that out' Picked up a pair of neons...Never thought I'd be buying these lol. Picked up two wiring blocks for power and earth. Also got some reusable tie wraps and mounting blocks for them. Put them in place, although I still need to sort more wiring it's sort of coming together. Here you can see where I fitted the two fuses as well, top right above the ecu. The run of the wiring so far. I then picked up some wire etc for my digi tank pressure gauge and the digi volt and pressure gauges. Also some earth cable. And fitted my digi tank pressure gauge. It's not working though for some reason!
Riley 0 Posted June 4, 2012 Sorted my handle idea for the compressor compartment...It's a red LED door pin lol, I'm going to connect it/power it from the compressor side of the relay for diagnostics use. Basically it will light up when the relay sends power to the compressor. It shows really weak in the pics, but it lights up a rich red! And I started building the floor for in front of the boxing, got carried away test fitting things... Then I started the false floor and a drivers side panel. Picked up a couple of black piano hinges so started making a door in the side panel, needs finishing yet. Other door done, this ones larger as there's more space behind it and I may pop my amp on there... It all looks a bit wonky yet until I get it all tweaked/glued/screwed. Along the top above the round gauge needs trimming for example so my parcel shelf will sit back on.
Riley 0 Posted June 4, 2012 Just want to say thanks to the lads who told me to never sell the Corrado...I've just been reading back through this ol' topic a bit and I can't believe how much I've wanted rid of this bloody thing at times lol! Yet here I am still doing silly things to it! Picked up some push catch latches for the two doors, really good quality little things they are! Supposed to be for caravan cupboard doors lol. Also some switches that have a little red led (Ignore the single rocker switch, I decided against it). The Idea is to have them light up when the boot is opened so you can easily find/press them. And you can see some black screw caps/covers I picked up too. One switch powers the two red neons, and the other powers the original boot light. But I found another boot light so fitted them both, one in each side panel...Still to wire up the second one as yet... I'm gonna try wrapping the neons in red Lamin-X to try and take away the slight pink, they do look more red in real life though. Thing is, I must have had a brain fart when i fitted the light switches, forgot that my parcel shelf was going back in the car and they wouldn't have been easy to get to so I've relocated them today. Need to rewire them properly yet, but test fitted them with the parcel shelf in.
