dinkus 10 Posted December 15, 2005 Audi have just unveiled the world's first diesel Le Mans car and they're planning on racing it next year. 5.5-litre, 12-cylinder twin-turbo TDI that produces over 650bhp and a meaty 811lb-ft of torque. Madness. More on PistonHeads
Walesy 0 Posted December 15, 2005 It doesn't say what sorta MPG it gives though... :-P
chrishill 0 Posted December 15, 2005 wonder if that means they'll have less refueling stops too?
dinkus 10 Posted December 15, 2005 Well I was assuming that because it's a race car, the MPG is going to be horriffic, but it may drink enough less fuel to mean it can cut out a fuel stop or two...
Neil VR6 0 Posted December 15, 2005 And I get to see it at Le Mans !! :joker2:

Not_Aircooled_or_Taxfree 0 Posted December 15, 2005 I thought that audi had already entered a diesel in le mans a few years ago?
TomB 0 Posted December 15, 2005 I don't think it was Audi, but there was definately a diesel Le Mans car there in 2004 and a bio-ethanol one to boot. Neither lasted the full 24 hours though.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 15, 2005 That's more power than an equivalent petrol engine! The Ford GT40 is also 5.5L (I think) and supercharged but doesn't make any where near as much grunt as that diesel!
dinkus 10 Posted December 15, 2005 It is a truly nutty car, it must be said. And it'll run on cooking oil from Tesco too! And Not_Aircooled_or_Taxfree - According to the PH forum lot, apparenltly Lola ran a car called the Caterpillar a year or two back, but it busted itself way before the end.
