veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 26, 2006 Right, just come from there and they're taking the head off. Remember when I said I went into that bollard not long ago? Well that almost bust my power steering pump and it also knocked off a bracket on my radiator. They're gonna ring me at 4:30 when they can finally tell me the prob. veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 26, 2006 Ok, they havn't bothered ringing me back  Just speaking to a mate and he said he's very sure that the problem is the piston rings have a hole in them or the piston, and this problem can be got to by not having to take the head off..is he right? If I find out they've took the head off when they've not needed to I'm gonna go fkin mad.

sciroccotune 0 Posted January 26, 2006 Well they finally rang me now and told me the head has blown, so new head needed and they need to reskim the hear or something like that.,, How much pennies will it cost you reckon? how is it blown? skimming the head should not cost much. bent valves dont normally destroy the head, just the seats if anything. Trig 0 Posted January 26, 2006 Should've asked them how much it'll be... phone 'em back up quick! :)
veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 26, 2006 Asked the blokey and he said he'll sum it all up in the morning  sciroccotune, that's what I thought :? , I'm so bloody confused
sciroccotune 0 Posted January 26, 2006 sciroccotune, that's what I thought , I'm so bloody confused i guess it could, but i would be asking what is wrong with the head. is it cracked? really badly warped? etc...... are they just going to put a new head on instead of rebuilding it? a new head sould be fairls cheap. plus gasket (around £20), head bolts (max £20 they are only £1 from ECP), cambelt (£10) tensioner (£10) And the work done by the garage which could cost lots, would take me around 7 hours of easy work to do the head. garage should really get it done in less time. All prices are approx I have to say its been a while since I did the last head.
veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 26, 2006 He said it's blown.

Socrates75 0 Posted January 26, 2006 Surely the fliuds would p***? The oil cap would've suggested that? Never had a gasket go on a car but thats what happened on my YZ250 moto x bike :?:

ZippyVR6 0 Posted January 26, 2006 There are a few more of those over here. Sounds like its gonna get pricey quickly 16v. Not wantin to take work away from a garage but is there anyone you know or a local knowlegable Rado owner who might be able to give a hand with the work once it has been diagnosed? veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 27, 2006 ZippyVR6, nope! He's rang me now saying 4 hours labour and for parts is £680 :|
Trig 0 Posted January 27, 2006 I thought they'd say something like that. Can you afford to do it?
2cc 0 Posted January 27, 2006 Walesy Haven't you got any work to do
Yandards 0 Posted January 27, 2006 Walsey quality vid. £680 for parts sounds steep for just parts when changing a head gasket though. After a quick look I think it should be closer to £300 for parts and thats with new exhaust & inlet manifold gaskets. Should be even cheaper if you went down the GSF route. I may be wrong of course! veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 27, 2006 I thought they'd say something like that. Can you afford to do it? And our survey says: Altough, he said I can pay in installments.. Mind you I meant the work to be done too aswell, and to skim the head. He said parts were around £
