rolex 0 Posted March 7, 2006 is there a massive differents between the two wheel size's, in reguards to handling? with width being 7.5/8. (i know this has been covered before, but couldnt find anything on the search)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 7, 2006 I went from 7.5x17 to 7.5x16 and I noticed a huge improvement as the 16s are a lot lighter than my old 17s.
g60greeny 0 Posted March 7, 2006 and i reckon the 16s are a much smoother ride
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 7, 2006 Yeah, 45 profile 16s give a much better ride than 40 profile 17s.....but 40s give a crisper turn-in.
double-6s 0 Posted March 7, 2006 i'll 2nd that. have had 17s on for about 3 hours now! bit of a jump from 15s to 17s! but i'm ard so i find the ride fine mate. :) (and have already had a blow out) ;)

The Hub 0 Posted March 7, 2006 How about if you go for 16's, but opt for the 7.5's at the front and 9's at the rear. What difference would this have to 7.5's all round on a handling point of view? Sorry for butting in on your thread, just curious :)
double-6s 0 Posted March 7, 2006 does having 9s on the rear mean stretched tyres? if it does then that must start messing with the handling??
rolex 0 Posted March 7, 2006 The hub feel free :) double-6s blow out already, your doing well :D g60greeny have you got 40 or
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 7, 2006 So long as the 9s have a standard tyre contact patch, i.e. 205 (stretched) there shouldn't be any grip/handling issues. Aesthetically though, opinions are divided :-)
cymru-corrado 0 Posted March 7, 2006 jump on bandwagon time........... i've just gone for 16's with 195/45 how much stretch would i get on this i presume it shouldnt really be noticable or affect handling?
Trig 0 Posted March 8, 2006 cymru-corrado, depends how wide the wheel is mate, 7, 7.5?

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 8, 2006 I dunno mate, that's something for the stretched boys to answer ;-) You are right though.... as the sidewalls stretch out it pulls the height of the tyre down with them, so affects the rolling radius too. If people want to risk it, let them.....but I'd rather be in front of a car with mega stretched tyres than behind it when blasting over B roads..... junkie 0 Posted March 8, 2006 I went from 7.5x17 to 7.5x16 and I noticed a huge improvement as the 16s are a lot lighter than my old 17s. How about 17's but in lightweight form? What would the difference be then? Lightweight 17's v Normal 16's? If they were to be the same weight you could still have crisp turn in with the 40 profile, but still the ride would still suffer sidewall wise. All depends on what style of driving you want to do the most. As when at speed its gonna generally be a lot more comfortable anyway.
iow_corrado_g60 0 Posted March 8, 2006 i havent had any problems with my strecth but i prob wouldnt strectch/mess with the integrity of the tyre if they fitted ok though its just the arch clearance issues! but it does look good imo! if you speak to grade_a's better half she'll be able to tell ya about stretching! All depends on what style of driving you want to do the most. Yeah the lighter the better, not many 17s under 20lbs though. OE 15s and my 16s weigh 15lbs. My local road are terrible, so much so the nearside top mount lasts about 18 months. The ride wasn't too terrible on 17s but some 17" tyres are softer than others, so fitting 17s doesn't always give a bad ride.
double-6s 0 Posted March 8, 2006 its all down to personal preference at the end of the day. i prefer the ride with 40 profile sidewalls - its harder but also 'smoother' (bad choice of word) as there is a lot less rolling on the sidewalls and less bouncing from dips and bumps. be a man - get 17/40s :)
Bally 0 Posted March 9, 2006 I found my 17" RC's to be lighter than my 15's lol
