16 vs 17

is there a massive differents between the two wheel size's, in reguards to handling?

with width being 7.5/8.

I went from 7.5x17 to 7.5x16 and I noticed a huge improvement as the 16s are a lot lighter than my old 17s.

Yeah, 45 profile 16s give a much better ride than 40 profile 17s.....but 40s give a crisper turn-in.

i'll 2nd that. have had 17s on for about 3 hours now! bit of a jump from 15s to 17s! but i'm ard so i find the ride fine mate. :)

How about if you go for 16's, but opt for the 7.5's at the front and 9's at the rear.

What difference would this have to 7.5's all round on a handling point of view?

So long as the 9s have a standard tyre contact patch, i.e. 205 (stretched) there shouldn't be any grip/handling issues. Aesthetically though, opinions are divided :-)

what about correct functioning of the sidewalls kev?

surely they're not acting as they should be if they're stretched to fek???

I dunno mate, that's something for the stretched boys to answer ;-)

 

You are right though.... as the sidewalls stretch out it pulls the height of the tyre down with them, so affects the rolling radius too. If people want to risk it, let them.....but I'd rather be in front of a car with mega stretched tyres than behind it when blasting over B roads.....

If they were to be the same weight you could still have crisp turn in with the 40 profile, but still the ride would still suffer sidewall wise.

 

All depends on what style of driving you want to do the most.

As when at speed its gonna generally be a lot more comfortable anyway.

i havent had any problems with my strecth but i prob wouldnt strectch/mess with the integrity of the tyre if they fitted ok though its just the arch clearance issues! but it does look good imo! if you speak to grade_a's better half she'll be able to tell ya about stretching!

All depends on what style of driving you want to do the most.

 

Yeah the lighter the better, not many 17s under 20lbs though. OE 15s and my 16s weigh 15lbs.

 

My local road are terrible, so much so the nearside top mount lasts about 18 months. The ride wasn't too terrible on 17s but some 17" tyres are softer than others, so fitting 17s doesn't always give a bad ride.

its all down to personal preference at the end of the day.

i prefer the ride with 40 profile sidewalls - its harder but also 'smoother' (bad choice of word) as there is a lot less rolling on the sidewalls and less bouncing from dips and bumps.

RCs are really light, about 16.5lbs in 17" flavour.
