Andy665 0 Posted April 8, 2006 How much is "really cheap" and for how long. If its low monthly payment Volkswagen are soon to be doing the Fox at £135 down, £135 per month plus free servicing
logicaltuning 0 Posted April 8, 2006 volvo 940/740 TD can be had as a minter for around £500 and will last forever returning very good mpg
gradeAfailure 0 Posted April 8, 2006 Citroen ZX 1.9TD - same chassis as the 306 so enjoyable to drive, cheap parts from GSF, don't rust, bombproof TD engines, and 55mpg! Failing that, a 1.0 Polo!
vr6storm 0 Posted April 8, 2006 ford KA 33mpg easy round town group 2 insurance, old so proven mechanicals and nice handling in a still fresh-ish design
steve_16v 0 Posted April 9, 2006 Citroen ZX 1.9TD - same chassis as the 306 so enjoyable to drive, cheap parts from GSF, don't rust, bombproof TD engines, and 55mpg! ^^^ I'll second that, they even go pretty well for a diesel

dr_mat 0 Posted April 9, 2006 I thought all Corrado owners had 306TDi s as second (aka reliable) cars already? Did you pass that one by?? :)
symtheus 0 Posted April 9, 2006 I have to say for a cheap runround the MK1 Nissan Micra has to be the ultimate!! :D 50MPG, Group 1 Insurance, bullet proof engines and with a sh*t brown 80s jap interior you really can't go wrong!! Mine cost me £30 quid with 3 months MOT and 4 months Tax. Needed a bit of filler around one of the arches a new centre section of exhaust and some new brake pads (all of which I had from a previous Micra!!). And all is well! Of course if you are looking for somat classy I would go for somat else!! T.

Bobby 0 Posted April 9, 2006 mk4 polo 1 litre can be purchased for under a grand, try get a p plate upwards for the mpi instead of the early spi, group 2 or 3 insurance, modernich interior, deep boot, i had one with 150k on the clock and never let me down
mrbeige 0 Posted April 10, 2006 I thought all Corrado owners had 306TDi s as second (aka reliable) cars already? Did you pass that one by?? :) It was reliable until the engine blew up last week! had o have a new engine, and need to sell it to recover the £1500 we've just had to spend on it, and now the CAT has decided to fcuk up, so need to get shot of it! There are some good suggestions there, but was thinking of spending less than £500!
chrishill 0 Posted April 10, 2006 cant go too far wrong with older jap cars, parts are cheap and they seem to go forever, although a mate of mine bought a £300 mk3 fiesta a few years ago and never had a days bother with it, the old F.O.R.D gag certainly didnt apply. Other than that... a reliant robin?
craigowl 0 Posted April 10, 2006 Polo (we have had 5 in family) or Peugeot 205 diesel.
davidwort 0 Posted April 10, 2006 cant go too far wrong with older jap cars, parts are cheap ... mmm, Toyota wanted 500 quid for an indicator stalk for a 1988 Carina a couple of months back  makes VW look cheap.
_Monkey 0 Posted April 10, 2006 How about a MK2 Gti 8v? You can pick up a half way decent one for under 500, there's more parts for them than you can shake a spanner at, mine averages at 33mpg (and I DON'T drive it nice!), it's quick enough to scare other 'fast' cars on the road, they can go on forever and if the engine does eventually let go, Big Boys Toys can get you a brand new, fully rebuilt one for around 500! Not to mention you still get to drive a VW!!
TomB 0 Posted April 10, 2006 Citroen AX 1.4/1.5D. 60+mpg and virtually bulletproof, not to mention great fun to fling about :-)

steve_16v 0 Posted April 11, 2006 sorry but citreon ax great fun to fling about you must be havin a giraffe i had an ax gt and nearly sold it after a week had awful handilng! thought i was gonna die going into corners had no trust for it what so ever and also if you crashed it, it would just crumple! This man speaks the truth, I had one of them a looooong time ago and got hit in the side by an escort van, the drivers side of the car was mangled with barely any damage to the 'scort. Oh and the handling in the wet was very scary, even with decent rubber there was no grip. Otherwise it was a nice little runabout.
Andi 2,147,483,647 Posted April 11, 2006 if its a super quick car you're after, then you want a Fiesta Zetec 1.25, because this lad swears by them.... wtf? Nothing wrong with a Fiesta 1.2S Zetec - exactly what the Mrs drives and I nick when the C is off the road. And 180km/h = 111mph, which is about right, downhill! £25 of petrol to fill and does more than the C's £60 ;)
