twin engine Corrado 4X4. click link for new pics

Recommended Posts

Didn't MTM do a "Bimoto TT", but with two 400hp TT engines?! Evo drove it and said it was the most brutal acceleration they'd experienced at the time, LOL!

Yes. They group tested it with a few other mental cars including a bonkers Elise with an Audi 2.7TT V6 out of the previous generation RS4. Oh yes.

There has also been a twin engined Golf with a 2.8L VR6 at one end and a 2.9L VR6 at the other.

Not forgetting the Z-cars Minis with 2 x GSXR-1000 bike engines in them.

Actually, I seem to recall an article in either AutoCar or EVO that listed all the twin-engine cars they had been able to find.

Edit: Looks like Z-Cars are working on a twin-engined Ultima now.

popped in place, sick of welding

upper firewall mount fitted so the harness will fit round the cage infront of it, the rusty bit is a front engine stabilizer mounting with a rose joint onto the upper cage brace.

uprights fitted for the fuel tank mounts to bolt to just inside the rear quaters

firewall mounts tacked in place, hope to fit the fuel pumps under the floor out of the way.

Nowhere near done, I’m off work ill so this is just filling in my time, normally I don’t get much chance to post on the forum as I work a minimum of 12-14hr days 6 days a week

Bored out of my mind at the moment :x :x

Wicked.. looking good! Did the mk2 shell fit ok once you had hacked it about?

MK2 cage?????

opps my bad, meant cage

The cage wasn’t too hard to fit, just kept on shortening the legs to fit and tilt the cage slightly forwards until it followed the contour of the roof. I’m not sure on the fit if you were going to try and keep some of the interior, I would have though it would fit down the side of the rear seats (if your not using a rear diagonal) but as for the dash I’m not sure, I’ll post some pics of the cage around the front once there resized. Good thing is that this lowers the door bars so it would be easier to get in and out of a std car.

Curious as to how this will handle without a centre diff. If you put the foot down wouldnt it be possible to light up the front tyres but have the back engine bog down at the same time? I take it the more powerful engine is going in the back.

Awesome piece of work though. Will be watching this thread :)

Here we have an example of that Great British Character - that 'let's see what I can do' spirit. We have a small scale version of the Veyron project going on in Sheffield

Good Luck to you and please keep us updated!

There has also been a twin engined Golf with a 2.8L VR6 at one end and a 2.9L VR6 at the other.

Above was Dubsport's Rallye. Dubsport also did my twin 2.0 16v, a mid engine 3.1VR6T (orange one) and, of course, the twin VR6T mk3 (B16 DUB).

I cracked 4secs 0-60 at Santa Pod so, if you can keep the weight down, this should also be easily achievable.

Incredible.

One thing i've always wondered about these twin engined cars.. is it a comparatively difficult thing to do because of having to get exactly the same amount of power and getting the exact same gearing? As in if each engine delivers different power you're going to get different propulsion from each set of wheels.. I guess that would make the car liable to spin up the wheels or behave erratically.

So how do you get both engines to deliver the same power at the same time?

You don't have to get identical power from each engine. As said above, Dubsport's Rallye ran a 2.8VR6 front and a 2.9VR6 rear. Easiest way to imagine it is - a car is being pushed by two people one unfit and the other a strong athlete....even though they have different powers the car will still go faster when they push at the same time...just that one person will use up more energy and work harder than the other.

Its actually an easy conversion as the engines, in my mk1, only shared the fuel tank and cooling system. Other than that they run completely seperate. Only difficult part is the clutch and gear change system along with throttle cables - obviously the front engine set up is standard so it is only the rear that has to be thought about. On my mk1, the rear clutch bit a fraction of a second before the front to aid take off.

vr6banana, Looking very good, just out of curiousity what do you do for a living?

Own a small garage in Sheffield, that’s why the work is so slow, need to fit it around all the other work :(

A VW specialist garage? Which part of sheff?

Could do with a garage near me that knows corrados!

Rear track is a little wider than I though it would be, that’s on 7x15” MO’s but I have a set of 8x17” MO’s to go on. The inside is going for paint but the outside will have to wait till all the running gear is on so I can stretch or alter the rear arches. The rear hubs are MK2 16V fronts with 5 stud flanges fitted (off the front of the old Syncro) which will have the 305mm discs and Brembo 4 pots.

Once it’s done I’ll decide on what to do with the 10x 15” MO’s I already have, if the 17’s suit it I’ll sell all the 15’s and replace them with more 17’s.

ARB’s are a pair of Eibach front Corrado VR items ordered as a pair of fronts through GSF, the mounting of the rear bar may differ from the front depending on whether I use the Passat VR or Corrado VR arms on the rear.

Surprisingly not, I didn’t like the rear suspension set-up, give me a sold beam anyday. The Syncro was a test build before transferring it into another shell, I bough a Rallye shell but the log book came back with a few discrepancies so I sent it back, at the same time Coxy decided he didn’t like the colour of the Corrado I sold him so I bought it back. I was going to mid mount an engine and make it RWD but then another 1.8t came up so I snapped it up, hence the twin engine project

old Syncro, sat well but needed a diff in it. i'm 6' but the seat is on the floor so it looks like a kids at the wheel
