double-6s 0 Posted May 8, 2007 As the title says really...... Anyone got any experience of them? Are afla's still unreliable? The 147 is a fairly new design, so is it any better than previous alfas? Am i completely insane for even considering an alfa? It's just they look great, sound amazing, have 250 bhp, go like stink and are within my budget! Feeling slightly underwhelmed by the S3/4motion options at the moment - both fookin lovely cars, but I'm worried i'll be bored in a week or two as they are both very civilised and grown up. Lippy 0 Posted May 8, 2007 i like em, although they are meant to be quite nose heavy which may alter the handling somewhat, imagine the tyre wear rate will be heavy. From looking into the alfa v6's they are meant to be quite solid engine wise, so long as the standard cam belt is changed etc. There is an alfa forum on pistonheads, with a few gta owners, head over there and see what you think. Personally, I think they have much more character than either s3/4mo but the quattro drive train + remap would make it a diff choice. The alfa alloys are fit aswell IIRC, Keep us posted :D
herisites 0 Posted May 8, 2007 I really like the 147 GTA! Gorgeous car (especially in red!) the engine sounds superb and go like stink. They have lovely interiors as well. My mate has an alfa 145 at the min but is getting a GTV soon (same engine) and apparently the engine is pretty solid but like all alfas i think its the electrics that tend to go on them! I say go for it and be different, granted the S3/4motion are great cars but i think are boring compared to the alfa. And as jezza says you cant call yourself a proper petrol head unless you have owned an alfa
double-6s 0 Posted May 8, 2007 The interiors are fantastic - have you seen the black and tan, and black and red combos? :) I honestly don't think the electrics could be any worse than in my particular rado! Jesus it's a nightmare in there! My bro has the GT 3.2 V6 - gorgeous car, but they're still a bit expensive for me. And bigger and heavier than the 147 :)
Cnut 0 Posted May 8, 2007 Get one! Sod the reliability we don't buy corrados for their reliability do we?! And they are equally rare. I want to get a Fiat coupe 20v turbo my heart says yes but my head says no. Always follow your heart!

I do want it though! :)
ReekieVR 0 Posted May 8, 2007 Top gear put it up against a more solid car ( cant remember what - R32, Type R, 350z ? ) and although the others handled better and were more practical ( not a 350z !) they all chose the flawed gta because it had ' heart ' and soul. I ran an Alfa 33 16v for 3 years before the Raddo, but got rid as the driving position was awfull. I'd have another Alfa any day though - esp a gta ! double-6s 0 Posted May 8, 2007 Every review i've read says the 147 gta just wants to be hammered! The kind of car that just begs you to rag the nuts off it and go mental. My kinda car really :)

Dogzyboy 0 Posted May 8, 2007 I'm a big fan of them too. I've nearly bought a GTV a couple of times in the past, but was put off in the end by the electrical gremlins. Hopefully Alfa have that particular issue sorted now, as the GTA is awesome.
Jonny_L 0 Posted May 8, 2007 Mmmmm, lovely. I have an Alfa now. All be it a 156 twin spark. It's only done 55k, and I've only done 5k of those. Now, touching wood here, it's not given me any trouble, and it's a bloody nice car. Not quite got the handling or power of the VR6, but they make lovely interiors. They are rubbish at paintwork though. The lightest stonechip, and you're back to primer. I've been looking out for signs of tackyness, something that'd break easily, but I still can't find anything TBH. I've not experienced buying parts yet though, could be interesting. scarlett 0 Posted May 8, 2007 be warned - alfas are like dubs, once youve had one you'll always want one... I had a 145 TS years ago, great, great car - always hankered after another one - would struggle to pick between a rado or a 145 if you had to force me to pick... havnt driven a 147 but heard great things about that engine... double-6s 0 Posted May 8, 2007 What about the 156 GTA? Are they as well built as the 147? Basically a generation older aren't they? Bit more practical with the boot etc, and a bit more room for the kids in the back.
KADVR6 0 Posted May 8, 2007 always had a soft spot for Alfa's, like clarkson said "every petrol head should have one in there life time" but this is my all time favourite Alfa, in my eyes, pure car porn :) karl
