daves16v 1 Posted March 30, 2013 Pete, cheers mate, ordered it. James, yeah glad it's done, can relax now. I've borrowed another sensor off LaserMark but after checking all three for resistance I doubt the sensors are duff, they all read the same. Going to strip the covers off again to get at the trigger. Don't you just love cars!
CazzaVR 0 Posted March 30, 2013 Dave, well done on getting that all done! It's a big job! I have a very similar cam problem. It's not the sensor/ecu/wiring/timing, so reckon it must be the trigger wheel. Quite frustrating really, as I asked a local specialist to change it for me. They took it all apart and checked the timing, but said the trigger wheel 'looked OK' so they left it, even though I asked them to change it as it's a cheap part. Is it fairly straightforward to take the rocker etc off? Never messed with the engine internals before, so I'm slightly nervous about tackling it myself. Really don't want to pay for all the labour again!
daves16v 1 Posted March 30, 2013 Andy, it's easy enough removing inlet mani, cam cover and the end cover, the problem comes undoing the sprocket bolt. It wouldn't budge on mine, hence having to use the one off my breaker. If it had come off then I doubt I'd have this problem. Oh and you need to use joint sealant when refitting the end cover, not sure if the VW stuff is a must or some other brand will do?

Even if you were able to crack off the bolt, I'd be surprised if the pickup hasn't of broke upon removal anyway
daves16v 1 Posted April 4, 2013 Changed the 'phase sender' (the bit the cam sendor reads) last night, started it up and no error so it's all good, just need to take it for a blast later today.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted April 4, 2013 Good stuff! I've had to take a rear cam down to a tyre place before to get the bolt air gunned off! The bolt shoulder grips onto the cam trigger's washer.
CazzaVR 0 Posted April 4, 2013 Sounds good Dave! Do you have a part number and price? :-)

daves16v 1 Posted April 5, 2013 (edited) Took it out last night for a good run, seems to go well. Has it made a difference? Yeah I think so but as it was off the road for 4 months then the first proper drive was after the the cams were fitted I'd kind of forgot how it drove before the cams. Think I'll get it remapped now to release the cams potential. The engine does sound very quiet now. Just need to sort out a front ABS sensor and 4 wheel alignment then that'll be it for a while, I'll just enjoy it. Laser Mark 0 Posted July 12, 2013 That hoist bracket looks the business mate. Have you had a closer look at the colour and texture match between the cam cover and lower inlet?
