Jim 2 Posted December 22, 2010 Thing is they were all quite different cars and they're kind of difficult to put against each other. I'd say the SLS is more of a GT car, the Porsche is definitely a weekend / track car.. the Ferrari a little harder to categorise. I think I'd like the ability of the Ferrari, adored the sound of the Mercedes (the guzzling, growling deep V8 is really my kind of engine note!) but had to respect the Porsche - it has less of everything but is just so well designed. Would really like the chance to try one of those on the track, under some tuition from someone knowledgeable.. I bet it's phenomenal.
Rams 0 Posted December 22, 2010 Isn't Hammond still under Paul Mecenna's spell thinking all Porches are the best cars in the.......................... world! :D All the cars chosen seem to fit their age group well, if it was me, I would definately take the fezza! stretch. 0 Posted December 22, 2010 Isn't Hammond still under Paul Mecenna's spell thinking all Porches are the best cars in the.......................... world! :D All the cars chosen seem to fit their age group well, if it was me, I would definately take the fezza! Was just about to mention Paul McKenna I enjoy it for one simple reason, I would love to just goof around like that and be paid good money for it!I flick to turbo if I want a car documentary etc, top gear? purely entertainment. _Meth 0 Posted December 22, 2010 I totaly agree. I dont watch top gear for the cars, well not detailed tests of them - whats the point? Top Gear have realised that the majority of people who watch these programs have no chance of ever owning these things, so why bother detailing every aspect of them? Its an entertainment show, and it does that amazingly well - I watched last night and loved every second of it, I thought it was hillarious - especially hammond binning it  Cant wait for the xmas special! Realy cant! :D
SamG40 0 Posted December 22, 2010 Indeed, so nice to see them being driven properly, as said most people will never get cars like that never mind the oppurtunity to thrash them on a massive trip over America. I did think a lot of it was genuinely funny, I mean seriously what were those tyre fitters actually saying?! I suppose it would be the same if an intelligent American ever came over and tried to speak to your average tyre fitter in Barnsley.
Critical_Mass 10 Posted December 22, 2010 Fell in love with the SLS to be honest, it looks mean, yet has a touch of class about it and it sounds like rolling thunder :D though the Ferrari was really nice. The Porsche again nice, but as above i wish Hammond would choose a different car. Rams, thats a good point about being still under Mckenna's spell  Enjoyed the show and pleased to see Tiff back on Top Gear, well behind the scenes at least. Does anyone know if its a permenant thing, will he still be doing 5th gear also?
Pete 0 Posted December 23, 2010 Without coming over all "Porsche Man" I'd have picked the RS from that lot as an actual prospect to buy factoring in all the costs etc. But if you wanted a car for that kind of trip with no money worries he should have had a GT2RS which is more like the others on price (165k) and with over 600bhp and crucially 500+ lb/ft it would have probably beaten the others for pace! But I do love my Porsches...
Andy665 0 Posted December 23, 2010 I'd have picked the RS - the purest of them all in terms of fitness for purpose
Jim 2 Posted December 23, 2010 I think I'd probably have gone with the SLS ultimately for a number of reasons.. more comfortable cruiser, awesome noise, probably going to last longer than the Ferrari, great retro / modern fusion looks, gullwing doors... :)

VR6 0 Posted December 23, 2010 Kev, you could always delete some of the filth and ease the burden on your poor, overworked instrument of porn.

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 24, 2010 It worked OK on the phone last night, it only stopped twice! :D Ferrari for me please! What a car 8) Then the SLS and the 911 last. I love Porsches but the 911 is getting quite boring now imo.
VR6 0 Posted December 24, 2010 It's a tough call but: SLS, Ferrari, Porsche. The sheer looks and noise of the SLS would do it for me. Although that Ferrari is absolutely stunning in every way. The Porsche, although nice, for that kinda money, I just don't really get. Sorry.

coolrado 0 Posted December 24, 2010 im lucky enough to have driven the 458 italia and the SLS albeit only about 20 metres from inside a factory unit and back, after i fitted trackers to them, and compared to other ferrari's i have dismantled the 458 italia is much more impressive, it actually seems to be built more like a production car as opposed to a kit car like most older ferrari's and the dash is beautifully laid out and put together, the sound is tremendous, sounds dirty especially when started from cold, the SLS was much more civilised and comfortable, felt like it would be great on a long journey although the interior was a bit dull, but it was very well put together, mercs recently seem to have been built to a budget even the top of the range models but the SLS is a big improvement. dukest 0 Posted December 27, 2010 just watched tonights show on iplayer and, although I was almost put off to start with when it was the usual amount of over the top-ness, it actually got very good and really pretty funny, especially in the last 15 mins :) feel very jealous about the bit where they were driving around the roman track at Jerash in Jordan - i've been there and it would have been amazing to do that! VR6 Lee 0 Posted December 27, 2010 Didn't like top gear tonight at all. Unlike me it's the only episode I turned off after 40 min Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
coullstar 0 Posted December 27, 2010 If you mean the Middle East one I thought it was one of thier better ones. Less about the cars and more about the region they were visiting. Maybe they should start doing some travel programmes.
shaunVR6 0 Posted December 27, 2010 Defo becoming a bit stale now like coulstar says its more a travel programe than a car one :? I never thought i would say that about top gear, think they are running out of ideas ,the funniest bit was the stig in the basket at the end :D
Guest Posted December 27, 2010 I'm waiting for the complaints about the ending. There must be people shouting 'blasphemy' at that one. But I did enjoy it.. the whole show.
